My opinion is this should wait a little while. Right now the DF Talent trees in the game are causing all kinds of issues with the way classes interact with each other and the game world, not to mention the disruption caused by Aug Evoker. I’d rather they do another overhaul of the trees before introducing new specs.
That said I am never against the idea of more specs and classes, though some amongst 20-man Mythic Raid teams would probably have some stronger opinions about that.
Sigh… Knew this was going to happen hence why i still advocate for the prior system, or an even more restricted system than that like 2-3 sub-spec load outs like a pre-selection of bleed or poison themed talent loadout of assassination.
And support classes causes class design disruption.
Much easier to design one class when it functions in a vacuum. But when you throw in support classes you now have to take into account all kinds of interactions with the other classes.
I don’t mind new specs but I’d rather have something that make sense over something people just make up like void paladin or having more specs just for the sake of it.
I think the talent trees are fine as a concept, but they needed more time to cook and at this point will probably take a new expansion to fix. There’s too little friction in their design, especially for healers and especially on the “class” side.
Overall, the tree just seems like old abilities we got by default is now slapped as optional on the tree. While some talents that couldn’t be taken together can now be taken together.
They should just do away with most of the class tree and make it baseline, while maybe move some of it like the late active talents to the spec tree.
Never fun to do M+ with people that don’t got their respective cc.
Dark Iron dwarves, goblins, gnomes, blackrock orcs, etc. all have tinkers. Could also be part of SI:7 in stormwind.
I really like the idea of 4th specs though too.
Maybe if they just prune classes a little and make everything easier to balance, they can add new classes specs on a regular basis like Riot does with champs
Draenei, Blood Elves (started off with stolen draenei tech), Undead (flesh golems)… Yeah, nearly every race already got tinkerers in their own themes.
I’d prioritize to give a 2nd role first for Warlock, Hunter, Mage and Rogue.
They are still the only classes that are stuck being dps only, with warlock almost getting a tank spec in MoP before their dev got sacked.
Meanwhile we have a lack for “physical/material” ranged dps, so giving
warrior a ranged spec would be apt.
Deathknight could get a caster spec based around necromancers, or something dark ranger like.
Monk could also get a caster spec inspired by their august celestials.
Demon Hunter, another obvious candidate for a ranged spec. A caster spec would intrude on warlocks while a healer spec would be another middle finger to warlocks for still being stuck with 1 role.
Priest, bow spec holy/moon themed. So that nigh elf priests can get their race/class fantasy.
Shaman, obviously tank.
Paladin, bit complicated since a caster would intrude on priests. But then if priest were to get a Priestess of the Moon dps spec, then paladins could get a holy fire dps spec.
Ideally intruding on other classes shouldn’t be a thing, but blizzard have now done it twice to warlocks because reasons. Never mind that metamorphosis was unlocked by suckling a warlocks skull
