hi guys, trying to get my first 5 mask done and wondering what the best major is to run? I’m currently using the iris which is great for AoE but i’m not sure if it’s the best one to use 
probably best to look for a rogue guide, but with your gear level just using the normal essences should be ok. Most important thing is to use your ghastly ghoulash so you don’t have to worry about health, and use pots and drums for various bosses.
The key thing in visions is avoiding the stuns and sanity losses, choice of essence doesn’t really affect that.
And of course, fill out the visions talent tree if you haven’t already done that.

Iris is good. You fight mostly multiple targets. 5 mask rather relies on effective use of Gift of the Titans. Do you have Weak Auras? There is aura that tracks cooldown on gift, so before boss fight you can wait a little then kill mob pack, trigger gift and then tunnel boss - with cooldowns on you should be able to kill boss/mini-boss within gift buff window.

i do have weakauras i use them for the vials so i know what to drink and what not too, i’ll get my titans gift tonight as im about 3k mementos away, will that make such a big difference?
The titans gift is massive. If you proc it on cooldown its 25% less sanity loss over a run plus 50?% more haste which is a huge boos on damage for most classes.
During gift you have mini-bloodlust + you are immune to all sanity losses for 20 seconds, so you don’t have to dodge anything. For example, mini-boss in Mage Quarter (big shadowfiend), he’s nasty and requires constant movement. I just kill mobs nearby and once gift triggers I instantly switch to this boss and kill him with my cooldowns.

I quite like purification protocol for visions. 1 min CD, stuns abberations, and has a small chance to just vape something away completely.

Yeah, titan’s gift is big. For 5 masks completing the talent tree for the extra sanity is very useful (but not necessary). I would say that the important things are:
1- fill out the talent tree/lvl 15 cloak
2-understand each mini-boss and mob so you don’t get stunned or sanity drained
3 - consumables - ghastly ghoulash, k’bab, drums and pots
4 - killing the 2 ‘buff’ npcs
Essences and the ‘potions’ don’t make much difference provided you have been sensible with them.

Probably more than that. If you track the gift buff you can kill a critter when you expect it to proc, get the proc and engage a miniboss. Then it doesn’t matter if you stand if every sanity draining effect possible, you don’t lose sanity for its duration.
So its massively strong.

If you’re running 4 masks without titan’s gift, you’re doing very well, tbqh. Most players have a rough time going above 1-2 masks before titans.

Purification Protocol is honestly, one of the best essences for vision, purely for it’s stun to aberrations and chance to one shot mobs. Yes, zone-bosses included.

Protocol is good, shorter CD to Iris… and it’s got a chance of one shotting mobs… even them elite mobs that give 200 Sanity, and it stuns Aberrations during its duration.
do you need the rank 3 protocol or can i use rank 2 as I’m only revered with the mechagnomes ? thanks for all the advice everyone
I’m currently in the same boat. Just got Gift of the Titans this week on this toon. Was doing 4 mask Stormwind last week easily enough. I tend to use Breath of the Dying as a major, Dubious delight as food (i find you get enough health regen with the potions). Purification Protocol is decent in Orgrimmar though as there are more abberations in there. Can even one-shot the mini bosses.

I used protocol for a long time and it’s quite good but I prefer Iris these days because it just so much more damage in a shorter window. Not sure if thats the case for Rogues but it is for DH’s because we get 200%+ haste during gift and meta reducing the channel time to 0.3 seconds.

well i’ll give protocol a go tonight but it will only be with the r2 as people are saying it’s a good idea for org, fingers crossed i finally get this 5 mask done tonight!
Btw, revered is enough to be able to purchase rank 3 from the vendor bot. It costs 40 spare crates and 15 galvanic oscillators which sounds like a lot but chances are if you have already done some mechagon content you’re already halfway there or close to it.
I forgot to mention that I always use protocol as a minor because the aoe proc deals 50% more damage against abberations and thats pretty much all the mobs in the visions.

Purification Protocol is of course a no brainer: Every single mob in these instance (besides the main boss) is an aberation and will receive more damage from it. The passive is enough but you can use the active ability if you want, which has a chance to instantly kill the mob you use it on.
Ok, i did like 50 five mask visions so far, I managed multiple 5-masks with ZERO orbs used as well.
Here’s my advice how to prep for this:
-bring war scroll of fortitude and stamina (7% ap and 7% stam)
-bring the flask
-bring DPS potions
-bring Living Action Potions - these are important! They break Touch of the Abyss - a very annoying 5-second stun.
-bring drums of fury. Hero is always nice to have and this lasts enough for at least 2 uses.
-runes are optional. Expensive and weak. Don’t bother.
This week we have Orgrimmar week. Orgrimmar is rather easy except for Rexxar. Here’s the catch with Rexxar: you need to bait out the Titan Spark proc. It’s really easy to do - all you need to do is to wait ~60 seconds before entering final Rexxar room. Place the orb and start stabbing him. Switch to adds instantly as they come. Killing this add should proc the Gift right away, as you waited out its internal cooldown as advised above. Pop hero, pop the potion and just burst Rexxar down, ignore everything. Adds will not inflict any Sanity damage because of the Gift proc.
Then on Thrall please watch for the Defiled Ground cast. This is the only dangerous cast he uses. He will always cast it directly in front of him, you have ample time to sidestep it. If you do get hit, Living Action Potion breaks this stun as well.
I used Worldvein essesnce instead of the memebeam. It’s useful on trash and on bosses. You can reset its CD very efficiently by using it only on full HP targets and on near-dead targets.
