Addressing EU Beta Routing Issues

As many Beta testers in this region know, in the first couple of days of the WoW: Forever Beta, we experienced routing issues that impacted testers’ ability to move, interact with the world, and in some cases, to stay connected. We immediately put our engineers on the case and they’ve been working to understand and address any parts of the issue that were within our control.

I’m happy to report that, over the last 24 hours, we’ve developed and implemented solutions to streamline routing to the Beta for the EU region.

As we continue to carefully observe the game performance for EU testers, we can see that there may still be routing issues for some players that are out of our control. This is always the case when a local Internet Service Provider (ISP) is experiencing a connection issue, or something upstream from the ISP is temporarily routing via a less-direct route for whatever reason, or the players themselves are running firewall-type software that’s introducing a slowdown (and in some cases, outright blocking connection to the game).

We believe that our fixes for issues that were within our control should have improved (and hopefully fixed) what some players were experiencing.

And we will continue to monitor the situation very closely. Finding and fixing game performance issues is a key reason to do a public test like this one.

Thank you very much for your patience and understanding.

120ms is the fix?

120ms is very respectable for routing going from Central EU to West Coast US.

Going from 800-600ms with dropouts and rubberbanding to consistent 120ms with the DC here and there (full layer dc it’s beta).

Is amazing! good work Team! Can’t wait to see how performance is in November when we get EU Servers (Beta/PTR has always and will always be hosted in US)

It seems to be running at 110-120ms for me. This is good enough fo classic and therefore good enough here.

Question though - is realmless continentless? Should I expect cross EU-US play for release?

From what i understood only the Beta is hosted strictly in NA. During the Blizzcon presentation when Infrastructure-Ana explained the “realmless” news the different regions had different colors

Thanks to adress this, it needed to be adressed day 1 of the BETA imo but I am glad you put the post out.

I have 110ms as well and the connection has been very smooth ever since then. Thank you for the very fast reaction.

Still having a lot of issues on the graphical front though, fps drops, crashes, etc..

Yesterday evening my ping went from 2000ms to around 120 and stayed there. It is now very usable! thank you for fixing this even during the weekend!

I believe they started working on this day 1, routing issues can be hard to track down and fix and even sometimes depends on things outside of their control like how your ISP routes, its not an easy thing to fix actually

I said adress it, not fix it

too late, refunded my epic package already. please send me free invite

Thank you so much for explaining the issue and taking steps to sort it out. Very much appreciated. The communication is so welcome too.

100-200 MS is acceptable for testing yes.

just did a quick testing
Anniversary: 34ms/37ms
Forever Beta: 136ms/136ms - same range as during the weekend

it must be stated that im one of the “lucky” ones that has not had issues with the connection from EU.

that my potato of a GPU struggles is another matter

Edit: something seems to have changed for the better for me. ofc it could be as simple as it being monday now. because in the weekend my PC had trouble getting 40fps in SW. and much of the time it went down to 20, and dynamicly lowering the settings just to keep that. rn i can do 70-80 fps in SW. and 120 in dun morog - as stated time of day, and time of week may well be a factor. but still

What is the reason to not have regional servers for beta (NA/EU/Oceanic)?

Spinning one up per region shouldn’t be that big of a deal and a lot of people “bought” beta.

Bruh… You are connecting from the EU to the US; what were you expecting, 5 ms?

Some people in these forums are really a case study material.

From EU to NA? Yes.

They have stated in an Interview that it will not be Region Less, You will still have the Regions OCA/NA, EU, TW, CN
