Warrior Updates in Today's Beta Build

A number of additional updates for Warriors in WoW Forever made it into today’s new Beta build, and we just added all of the following to our Development Notes for today.

Warrior

  • Additional Rage generated from landing Critical Strikes increased to 100% increased Rage (was 75%).
  • Fixed a bug that was causing Dual Wield Specialization to grant its increase to Hit Chance to both weapons.
  • Developers’ notes: Because of the above bug, our tests needed some correcting, so we did another pass on Fury Warrior.
  • Fury
    • Developers’ notes: Our goal here is to give Fury more access to utility and meaningful choices early in the tree for leveling, and free up points later for more choices instead of being stuck placing points into Enrage to get Flurry.
    • Booming Voice is now a 10/20/30/40/50% increase area of effect to your Shouts and a 5/10/15/20/25% reduction to their Rage costs.
    • Unbridled Wrath no longer grants twice as much Rage to two-handed weapons.
    • New Talent Lingering Rage in Row 2 of Fury. Lingering Rage increases the time before your Rage begins to decay when leaving combat by 2/4/6/8/10 seconds.
    • Blood Craze no longer activates off of Bloodthirst casts.
    • The Improved Cleave talent has been removed.
    • The Boundless Rage talent has been removed.
    • New Talent Furious Precision in Row 3 of Fury. Furious Precision increases your chance to hit with off-hand attacks by 4/7/10%.
    • Raging Blows now reduces the Rage cost of your Cleave and Whirlwind abilities by 3.
    • Raging Blows no longer causes your Whirlwind to strike with your offhand. Whirlwind will now always strike with both weapons without requiring a talent point.
    • Dual Wield Specialization no longer grants hit to your off-hand attacks.
    • Enrage is no longer required to reach the Flurry talent.
    • Death Wish is now required to reach the Flurry talent.
    • New Talent Gore Drinker in Row 6 of Fury, requires the Enrage talent. Your Enrage, Berserker Rage, Bloodrage, Death Wish, and Bloodthirst abilities cause your next 3 melee attacks to restore 0.5/1% of your maximum Health.
    • Improved Berserker Rage moved to Row 5 of Fury (Was Row 6).
    • Berserker Rage is now available at level 30 (Was 32)
    • Bloodthirst’s Attack Power ratio has been increased to 45% (Was 35%).
  • Protection
    • Developers’ notes: Our goal is to give non-shield users a clear path to the middle of the tree, where Protection could serve as a PvP tech secondary specialization, with more access to Improved Bloodrage, Iron Will, Improved Disarm, Last Stand, and Improved Shield Bash.
    • Iron Will moved to the Row 1 of Protection (Was Row 2 of Fury).
    • Anticipation moved to Row 2 (Was Row 1).
    • Toughness has been removed.
    • Improved Bloodrage moved to Row 1 (Was Row 2).
    • Improved Revenge moved to Row 2 (Was Row 3).
    • Improved Disarm moved to Row 3 (Was Row 4).
    • Improved Shield Bash moved to Row 4 (Was Row 5).

Row 3 of fury is now a complete mess for a raid build.

5 points cruelty, 5 points unbridled rage, 3 points furious precision and you’re left with 2 zero-gain points.

  • Lingering rage is pointless in raids, we have bloodrage for short pauses, and if your aim was to let us retain rage for bosses, it’s not gonna matter since a lot of the time the pause before bosses is several minutes long (except for the 1% of speedrunners, but we’re not designing the game around them again, are we?).
  • Blood Craze wasn’t all that good for raids, and is now basically useless for outdoor gameplay as well since it doesn’t work on BT anymore (by the way, “being the victim of a critical strike” and “suffering more than 20% of your maximum Health from a single attack” have a lot of overlap between them, you might wanna rework that too).
  • Booming voice has no right to even be a talent in 2026, it should have been been made baseline as a QoL like you did for other classes buffs. It’s embarrassing that we have to invest 5 precious talent points into something other classes get for free.
  • Piercing Howl is useless in raids and it’s only 1 point anyway.

I understand the game isn’t been designed solely around raiding anymore, and it’s a good thing. But we also can’t have a bunch of ‘mandatory’ talents and then be left with a handful of points to put into useless talents.
Add something that can have a use for raiders and make some of the leveling talents a bit more interesting, so that we can actually make meaningful choices.

Amazing. Looking forward to the shaman version of this.

Assume that’s coming right guys and we’re not just leaving it unfinished?.. Right?

I can confirm that Arms now with a Two Hand Sword,is blasting i love it and Yes there is a Rage i blasted a 2 lvl High Mobs with 60% health to remain.

I like it and i hope so Warrior will stay something like this, ehen we speak about Rage atleast.

blizzard wants warriors. and especially fury warriors to take a “chill-pill” - otherwise the meta would again just end up “stack 30 warriors for 40man raids”

and thats why they did the normalization. so warriors are not just spammin everything on cooldown - thats whats ment by the chill-pill

Sure, but tying rage to crit doesn’t actually slow warriors down, it just gates them behind gear. A fully geared warrior with high crit (which amount may be unreachable) is back to pressing everything on cooldown and raiding normally, so the chill pill only hits people who are leveling or fresh at 60. All it does is widen the gap between geared and ungeared warriors. If the goal is to stop spamming, flatten rage gen across the board instead of making it scale with crit.

a few days ago some of us had a discussion going about what could be done. and possible solutions.

part of it is basicly what they have done, but there are more part to it.

cba to finding the topic tho

but in general, it should not be rage-gen should not really be tied to gear, you dmg output, or your actual tps should be tho. but not the resource-gen

so clearly there is still work to be done. all we really can do is give suggestions on how. not just complain about “what is wrong” - and ofcause hope they actually listen and get something done about the problem

Oh, you mean.. Like everyone else? They actively want progression in a character to matter and not just, oh I just got this talent and now I’m super charged. It’s a design philosophy. Go ask casters how they feel about having spells that hit like a wet noodle without gear.

They have also said that Warriors will not be the top of the DPS meters on single target bosses. That spot belongs to a rogue. I assume for dual bosses and adds, the spot will belong to mages/warlocks or similar.

They want there to be meaningful decisions in your rotations and not just you smashing all your damage abilities. They want you to smash 3-4 damage abilities and the rest is for cooldowns or other things.

The two last are from their latest podcast and despite what you may think, they have actually had lengthy conversations with the original vanilla developers and what their vision was for classes.

Lol, I thought they had removed the extra rage from offhand talent entirely, they have not. You fine. You literally just went from not getting rage at all from crits, to getting 100% rage on crits and you managed to retain 50% rage generation on your talent.

Before this you sat at 7.75/s rage at 33% crit, now you get 11,781/s at 33% crit.

The crit ceiling to be on par with before sits at around 12.55% crit. Just saying that’s obtainable pretty much with 5% crit talent and from there on out, you just keep getting better.

Lol I swear warrior entitlement.

You’re assuming the old off-hand rage bonus is still there, but it isn’t. The talent now only gives off-hand hit — the tooltip literally says “Increases your chance to hit with off-hand attacks”.

So the comparison is:

Before: OH generated double rage, crits gave no extra rage.
Now: OH is back to 50% rage, crits give +100% rage.

With 2.6/2.6 weapons, 24% MH miss, 14% OH miss, 5% dodge, 5/5 UW and 25% Flurry, I get roughly:

  • 0% crit: 337 vs 252 rage/min
  • 10% crit: 355 vs 300
  • 20% crit: 373 vs 348
  • 25% crit: 381 vs 373
  • 30% crit: 387 vs 397
  • 33% crit: ~391 vs ~412

So the actual break-even is around 27% crit, not 12.55%.

And at 33% crit I get about 6.5 rage/s before vs 6.9 rage/s now, nowhere near 7.75 → 11.78 rage/s.

If you’re getting 11.78/s, you’re almost certainly still counting an extra OH rage modifier that no longer exists. Or am I missing sth here?

Yeah, you’re missing it, 4th row to the left. Dual Wield Specialization :). I used 2.9s mh and 2.4s oh as normalization means faster weapons is worse for rage generation.

We can also assume faster weapons, it means slightly less rage, but you’re still getting more than before. Ultimately it doesn’t really matter..

When I ran how much rage you gained in a minute in the old system using a 2.4s mh/1.8s oh, with 19% hit chance on offhand and 35% rage and 5.6% dodge on bosses, you ended up with 585 rage in 1min (assuming you used all your rage increasing cooldowns) and needed 580 rage for bloodthirst, whirlwind and rend on cooldown. Not great, but not as doom and gloom as people wanted it to be.

You’re going to get far more rage now than before though, so we’re good.

This was some great changes for fury war, my only concern is the third row where it only offers duel wield or utility/self heal talents. Any chance we could have a passive that boost 2 handed weapons by something, maybe increasing hit chance or something else so fury has something for those who want to play 2 handed fury.

Edit: Maybe Improved Bloodrage could be moved over here.

Definitely. Tanks will never pick it anyway, they already have so many better talents to take than that.

I also pondered on maybe Lingering Rage should only cost 3 talent points to fill out, but now while wielding a 2 handed weapon maybe you’ll get 1%/2%/3% increased attack power or critical strike from it, at least then this talent would have something useful while in combat like Anger Management. Those 2 talents are quite similar in design:sweat_smile:

I’m going to be a llittle bit cheeky and say, yes, it’s called being Arms.

we’re missing a cheap talent in fury row 3 that both fury and arms could take

deep arms has too many 5-point talents, 2h spec is 3 points, Bloodthrill and maybe even Weaponmaster should be 3 points too

Ye warrior still feels pretty damn BAD post changes ngl! Imma be honest here I dont think rage normalization was the way to nerf warrior! There are MANY OTHER DIFFERENT PATHS TO ROME! And touching the core class fantasty and the main reason this version is warrior feels better then any version EVER done in retail is largely due to the rage scaling feeling good! We should focus on KEEPING THAT PART and maybe nerf elsewhere; GONNA BE A SHOCKER TO SOME OF YALL IT SEEMS BUT WE HAVE OTHER WAYS TO NERF WAR THAT DOES NOT INVOLVE DESTROYING THE BASE OF WHAT MAKES THE CLASS FEEL GOOD!

I dont understand how this is so hard to grasp; nor do I understand why this wasnt the starting point for nerfing war instead of this nonsense. There is NO WAY to normalize rage WITHOUT war feeling like retail. Please stop trying its a dead end. –I cant spell it out more clearly then I did here–

Please math people at Blizzard explain to them there are at least 6 other paths available to nerf war that do NOT involve normalizing rage! Worst call of the beta so far! Closely followed by mage nerfs!

Imma be straight up here Blizzard so please TAKE NOTE; If any class is a gold sell problem; that problem needs to be solved by BANNING THE GOLD SELLERS LIKE WE DID BACK IN THE DAY! Never EVER should it be made as the main reason to completely overhaul the one of the most iconic classes in WoW. Never will we accept that change; add on top of that that this breaks the FIRST THING yall promised bout WoW Forever; which was that this WOULD REMAIN CLASSIC IN ITS SPIRIT! This simply is NOT THE CASE right now! Main reasons war + mage! Un-do basically MOST if not ALL what was done to those classes.

I’ll do you one better; if you keep rage the old way and figure out a better way to balance war you can actually apply that to retail war cuz you would have IMPROVED THE CLASS AS A WHOLE! Does that make sense Blizzard? Please tell me there is at least someone over there that understands what me and seemingly many others are saying?!

Okay, warrior is fine though and just so you know.. ROGUES WILL BE THE BEST SINGLE TARGET DPS IN THE GAME, NEVER WARRIORS AGAIN.

Enjoy.
