I will introduce to you the complete rework of Frost Death Knight (not official).
Summary :
With Legion, Death Knight have been focused on spec much more than the others class. They even received a complete revamp and, i think, that it was necessary. For me, Frost Dk is almost the same as Fury warrior but with Frost Magic. They begin with the same archetype. Originaly, they have the choice to play two-handed weapon or dual-wielding. Why it is not possible now ?
Frost Dk are in a good spot, with a good talent, they can show their potential.

Baseline Frost DeathKnight Change
Death Grip
25 yd range / Instant / 30 sec recharge / 1 Charge
Harnesses the energy that surrounds and binds all matter, drawing the target toward you.Blinding Sleet
Instant / 1 min cooldown
Targets in a cone in front of you are blinded, causing them to wander disoriented for 5 sec. Damage may cancel the effect.Pillar of Frost
Instant / 1 min cooldown
The power of frost increases your Strength by 15% for 12 sec. Each Rune spent while active increases your Strength by an additional 1%.Might of the Frozen Wastes
When wielding a two-handed weapon, your Obliterate deals 25% more damage and all melee attacks deal an additional 10% damage.
Threat of Thassarian
When dual-wielding, your Death Strikes, Obliterates and Frost Strikes also deal damage with your off-hand weapon, and your Frost Strike damage is increased by 30%. Increase your hit chance by 6 %.
**Explicative Note: Blinding Sleet should be made baseline for Frost Dk. Dk in a general has no cc baseline. Such a bad idea putting cc skill has talent. Little nerf on Death Grip, this skill should be the same has shadowstep for mage or other range closer. 30 sec baseline. Last, Might of the Frozen Wastes and Threat of Thassarian, with this baseline, Frost DK can explore a lot of playstyle.
It’s important to know the fact that Frost Dk has now baseline:
- 1 CC skill (Blinding Sleet).
- 1 Mobility skill (“Death Grip”).
- 3 Defensive cd (Icebound Fortitude, Anti-Magic Shell and Death Strike).
- 2 Burst cd ( Pillar of Frost and Empower Rune Weapon).
With this Frost DK (and the other classe) has 4 distintive playstyle and more if you combine talents. Here they are:
- 1 column: Playstyle Based on Frost Fever.
- 2 column: Playstyle Based on Obliterate.
- 3 column: Playstyle Based on Frost Strike and Auto Attack.
- 4 column: Playstyle Based on Remorseless Winter and cd.
Now we can move to talent (8 tiers). READ carefully because a lot of talent has changed.
Tier 1: Ressource Management
Runefrost
Increases the chance to trigger Runic Empowerment by 20%.
Murderous Efficiency
Consuming the Killing Machine effect has a 50% chance to grant you 1 Rune.
Runic Attenuation
Auto attacks generate 1 Runic Power.
Horn of Winter
Instant / 45 sec cooldown
Blow the Horn of Winter, gaining 2 Rune and generating 25 Runic Power.
Tier 2: Base Skills Rotation
Brittle Bones
Your Frost Fever also applies the Physical Vulnerability effect, increasing their physical damage taken by 5% for 15 sec.
Inexorable Assault
Gain Inexorable Assault every 8 sec, stacking up to 5 times. Obliterate and Frostscythe consume a stack to deal an additional (20% of Attack power) Frost damage.
Icy Talons
Your Runic Power spending abilities increase your melee attack speed by 5% for 8 sec, stacking up to 3 times.
Bad to the Bone
Increases the damage of your Razorice runeforge by 50%.
Tier 3: Basic Gameplay
Hypothermia
Each time Frost Fever deals damage, it has a chance to erupt, dealing (50% of Attack power) Frost damage to the target.
Thronebreaker
Obliterate has a 100% chance and Frostscythe has a 50% chance to cause the target to be pierced from behind by a Crystalline Sword.
Frozen Pulse
While you have fewer than 3 full Rune, your auto attacks radiate intense cold, inflicting (6% of Attack power) Frost damage on all nearby enemies.
Gathering Storm
Each Rune spent during Remorseless Winter increases its damage by 10%, and extends its duration by 0.5 sec.
Tier 4: Defense
Anti-Magic Zone
30 yd range / Instant / 2 min cooldown
Places an Anti-Magic Zone for 10 sec that reduces spell damage taken by party or raid members by 75%.Nullification
Anti-Magic Shell also removes all harmful magic effects when activated.
Permafrost
Your auto attack damage grants you an absorb shield equal to 50% of the damage dealt.
Ice in Your Veins
Death Strike heals for 150% more while Icebound Fortitude is active.
Tier 5: Mobility
Frozen Grip
Death Grip also reduces its target’s movement speed by 50% for 6 sec.
Wraith Walk
Channeled (4 sec cast) / 1 min cooldown
Sidestep into the shadowlands, removing all root effects and increasing your movement speed by 70% for 4 sec. Taking any action cancels the effect. While active, your movement speed cannot be reduced below 170%.Chill of the Grave
Increases the range of Frost Strike by 8 yards.
Deathchill
Your Remorseless Winter apply Deathchill when cast and Chains of Ice on target already afflicted by your Chains of Ice, rooting the target in place for 4 sec.
Tier 6: Area of Effect (AOE)
Avalanche
Casting Howling Blast with Rime active causes jagged icicles to fall on enemies nearby your target, dealing (15% of Attack power) Frost damage.
Frostscythe
1 Rune / 8 yd range / Instant cast
A sweeping attack that strikes all enemies in front of you for (14% of Attack power) Frost damage. This attack benefits from Killing Machine. Critical strikes with Frostscythe deal 4 times normal damage.Glacial Advance
30 Runic Power / 100 yd range / Instant cast / 6 sec cooldown
Summon glacial spikes from the ground that advance forward, each dealing [(42% of Attack power) * ((Attack power + Offhand attack power) * 2 / 3) / Attack power] Frost damage and applying Razorice to enemies near their eruption point.Chill Streak
40 yd range / Instant / 45 sec cooldown
Deals (100% of Attack power) Frost damage to the target and reduces their movement speed by 70% for 4 sec. Chill Streak bounces up to 9 times between closest targets within 6 yards.
Tier 7: Refine playstyle
Northrend Winds
Howling Blast now deals damage only to a single target, but the damage is increased by 50%.
Cold Heart
Every 2 sec, gain a stack of Cold Heart, causing your next Chains of Ice to deal (10% of Attack power) Frost damage. Stacks up to 20 times.
Tundra Stalker
Damage of your Frost Strike is increased by 10% on snared targets, and critical strike chance increased by 15% on rooted targets.
Frozen Center
Remorseless Winter’s damage is increased by 25%, but is radius is reduce by 3 yards.
Tier 8: Burst
Obliteration
While Pillar of Frost is active, Frost Strike, Glacial Advance and Howling Blast always grant Killing Machine and have a 30% chance to generate a Rune.
Breath of Sindragosa
0 Runic Power, plus 16 per second / Instant / 2 min cooldown
Continuously deal [(50% of Attack power) * ((Attack power + Offhand attack power) * 2 / 3) / Attack power] Frost damage every 1 sec to enemies in a cone in front of you, until your Runic Power is exhausted. Deals reduced damage to secondary targets. Generates 2 Rune at the start and end.Crystalline Swords
Your melee attacks have a chance to create icy copies of Icebringer and Frostreaper, which will then stab and pierce your foes.
Frostwyrm’s Fury
Instant / 3 min cooldown
Summons a frostwyrm who breathes on all enemies within 40 yd in front of you, dealing (300% of Attack power) Frost damage and slowing movement speed by 50% for 10 sec.
I repeate that none of this is official. It’s just my personnal point of view of the spec but i truly think that a lot of classes need this particular attention.
