A ‘3’ Solution for the current state of Retribution Hunter Paladins (PvP Wise)

This ranged hunter retribution paladins thing must stop now. I’m ready to face melee paladins. I got 3-4 shot by a paladin the other day where 75% of those strikes where ranged and 1 last strike was melee. Are you serious?

A ‘3’ Solution for the current state of Ret Paladins?:

    • Give Ret Paladins some kind of AoE ‘Consecration-Type’ “Slowing Round Area”, kinda like hunter’s Tar Trap (probably with some cc-interrupt if you remain within the Consecrated Area) Therefore, they have a way to stay in melee range and press melee range abilties.
    • Give a “Light Hammer” they can throw that can slow enemies down gradually (like a ‘Light Drunkness’ that dazes you over time) and finishes off with a stunt or cc interrupt: This will make them run & pursue an enemy and finally attack on melee range for 1 to 1.5 seconds while the enemy is dazed/stunt.
    • REMOVE the other heavily ranged light hammer abilities and so on, make paladins actually run and move towards Melee Range.

My main in 2004 was a ret paladin, those good old days, I enjoyed very much. But now it seems that if you can’t handle Melee Range and be good at it, then your option is a Ret Paladin.

I’ll trade it if we were given undispellable freedom, unslowable divine steed and the complete redesign of 5 utterly useless pvp talents

So you thought the idea you blerted in another topic warranted a topic.

… Play your warrior without charge, leap and intercept over the weekend and tell me how well your “melee combat” works out for you.

“i mained a ret 20 years ago and it worked fine”

  1. No it didnt
  2. Go play Ret in classic
  3. Thats all.

I agree that the design of a ranged paladin is the wrong way to go but they refuse to add gapclosers and spammable slows/roots on short CD on the same lvl of warriors and rogues, so here we are.

Your 3 step solution solves nothing, only adds to the problems the spec already has.

Remove your gap closers from your key binds and come talk.
Divine steed is not an option since you still get slowed with it.
Freedom getting inta purged/dispelled/stolen.
No slows to kep up with your opponent.
Ret is in a good design for pve and thats all.
I did delves up to 9 with pvp gear as ret with no problem thanks to range abilitys but in pvp you get kited slowed toyed like you are a training dummy.

You couldn’t have said it better…
Undispellable BOF , Steed of liberty as a talent on its own and some PvP talents that need to be changed to either help with mobility or gap closer … I remember back in the day when you judgement someone you got a speed buff (pursuit of justice or something like that) , i liked that idea but then there were just a few gap closers and on the other hand only a few spells that make the range opponent get away once you got close enough.

While this might work in PVP, it’ll cause real problems in PvE given the amount of mechanics that require us to be miles away from the boss for long periods of time.

Don’t kill PvE for PvP Blizzard.

I dont follow, do warrior and rogues etc have a Rets range for PvE? If not, how is this less of an issue for them?

In PvE Ret dont suffer much on the mobility front either.

The range thing is mainly to adress the lack of gapclosers, slows, roots and ranged CC in PvP. You will lose dps if you are not in melee range in PvE.

This.

The complaints over pala 20 yard range will just be replaced with

“You can’t get away from palas melee Range”……

It’s either one or the other.

I’d like justicars vengeance reworked to be a serious contender for TV in PvP. It should self heal 4-5% or / and cause the next x% healing done to target (self healing or otherwise) to redirected to the paladin. Atleast its melee range! …….

Judgement still gives pala a speed boost temporarily. And slows the target at same time.

I don’t think pala movement speed is such an issue anymore. It used to be horrific.

As you and others say though, freedom needs to have a brief undispellable period.

Palas have historically always either done not enough damage outside off wings and been useless. And far too much damage inside wings. Think shadowlands final wings/verdict one shotting a full group in PvP. A terrible design.

As it stands radiant glory has replaced that scary wings feeling. Replacing it with more constant peasure and moments of burst through hammer of light / anshee procs.

Which tbh I just don’t think many folk are fully used too yet. For 2 decades it’s been. Ignore till wings. Cc.

right now pala has so so many problems in PvP. The main one being it’s still stupidly easy to kite. Particularly with LoS. In BGs though with less focus on dispels, it does great in cleave pressure or 1v1 flag def due to CD rotation.

They bring very little that an arms war wouldn’t bring tho dps wise… Pala can’t slow flag carriers, can’t chain CC like a rogue or mage. Cant lock down anyone really. And has zero MS effects or execute pressure (again outside of timed nukes / Hoj)

It’s a very basic (albeit can be effective) train a target / offheal / bless.

Problem with paladin speed boosts is that they dont stack and we have MANY of them. Think about 8 talents worth and none of them stack. Unsure if even speed stat stacks with them.

Wrote in another post.

About the judge slow, its kinda pointless. Its a 30% slow and if used on a frost mage that same attack slows me down 50% (with a potential to root me?). ALL classes have a stronger slow so im still forced to use freedom/steed either way to get close.
