A definite issue with Dragonflight release date

Hello guys,

This thread is for those who closely follow the DF alhpa and the news. The reason I am opening this post is raise awareness and hear feedback of others about DF. I believe the 2022 release date is wrong and will result in a half-baked bad game.

Before the alpha I was optimist since:

  • there is no borrowed power so balancing is easy
  • we already have most of the talents
  • there are no new crazy features
  • profession overhaul is fairy simple

And ohh boi was I wrong…so let’s jump into it:

Talent trees
This is a balancing nightmare. The good news is that if Blizz gets it right then it will stick with us on a long term - it is a good design choice. The bad news that they need to get it right and there is no time for that. Half of the already released trees are a mess and they need severe restructuring or even an almost full remake (looking at you survival…). Some of them are awesome and almost complete, like shaman or rogue but this doesn’t correct the fact that A LOT of balancing is still ahead. Not to mention that not all trees are released. This NEEDS time, if it’s rushed 10.0 or even 10.1 will s.ck big time.

Dungeons
Oh good lord. Some of the dungeons are cool but I would say this is early alpha state of the dungeons. And also there are some major issues - the new Uldaman needs an almost complete redesign otherwise it will end up as a terrible M+ dungeon. No one wants that and this takes time.

Evoker
Alright. Preservation is nice. Based on the feedback of most streamers devastation needs still a lot of work designwise as the spec is not satisfying to play and is one dimensional despite the very cool mechanics. Just mentioning preservation once again: looks absolutely awesome.

Spaghetti code
Alright this is an issue. We are in alpha but day after day some game breaking bug is posted on YT, Reddit or whatever. They need to perform a major bugfixing before the release.

The good side:

Professions
It is cool but we havent ween how balancing will work out. If there are no annoying or broken interactions this is great.

Dragon riding
Good, absolutely stellar. I love it. They got this one right.

One more worry though:

Content
So we’ve seen a couple dungeons, raids, professions and dragon riding. But if I log in what will I do? What if I cleared the raid and I don’t want to do The Ruby Pools for the 216th time? Is flying around on a dragon the endgame content or pressing crafting buttons?
I do not see how the game can catch the majority of the players for more than a month. Do we live in a world where WoW patch cycle lasts 1-2 month and then 70% of the playerbase jumps onto a different game and the developers are perfectly alright with this?

I am scrathing my head over the release date. I just can not see how can they fix the current issues so fast and still test the complete content added later. Live servers are kinda dead right now and we would love to have content ASAP but please Blizzard take your time and give us a finished product. Something that we gladly play for more than a month or two. If you release DF in 2023 March we will come back for it. Just let it be good and finished.

There is no issue in release date .

Ye i dont feel like it wont be ready. Shadowlands was way different than this…because frankly…they put talents together better and thats basicaly it…the early versions of them are almost all out and theyre already adjusting them. I think it will be ready.

I’m most worried about the talents personally. The talent trees aren’t that complex but it is likely a lot of work to just set the trees up and balance them properly and some things that are added in the paladin to me already feel like they were done in a rush, with weird fillers and talents that are followed up by other talents with 0 synergy.
The rest I can see them hotfix like bugs in dungeons, but the talents is an actual balance thing that players will feel, mess that up and dragonflight will start on a backfoot.

Dragonflight is finished in terms of its core development, alphas and betas are for you to stress test the game and find bugs without Blizzard having to show you the finished product.

The release date was given because the game’s development has reached its conclusion.

If the finished product is this and only bugs needs to be fixed and numerical tuning of dungeons/raid and character skills that is terribly bad news.
I am fully aware they are releasing content in cycles. The issue i’m talking about is what they shown so far in alpha. It’s exactly that, early alpha state - if they just tweak the current content without re-designing the stinkers we are going to have a complete game when 10.2 drops.

They should have some testing phase… that’ll get them found and fixed.

You realise most of this will be fixed or improved on that’s the whole point of testing

It’s weird you’re judging the state of a game based on it’s alpha, arguably the earliest version the public gets to see.

You say what you see from the alpha currently isn’t great, what I see is an amazing base, and we still got 5 months to go till the release.

Beta would be a better point to judge.

In Alpha you have your pillars which you finish/polish during Beta. They are doing that to some extent with the Alpha phases - each phases adding such part but IMHO there is something still missing. We are getting the zones, missing talent trees but the key question is - what content will be there?

  • Zones through which you level with some story and then get world quests
  • Dungeons - early on you spam normal and HC to then move to M and M+
  • Raid tiers

And the missing part is what else will the expansion provide? Like what cool new things are we going to get. Will there be a successor to for example Legion legendary fishing rod? What else will there be to do than weekly vault? SL and BfA had their stupid FOMO systems which failed and the question is will they try to add similar system or add nothing and if nothing then what?
