A few observations after quitting WoW

A well-written, clear goodbye post. A suitable farewell.

I hope you continue to love it in FF, and find a satisfying replacement for WoW! :+1: I ried it, and GW2, myself, but was put off by some things, including the art and music of FF.

It’s funny: you say you felt that the game developers are forgetting about the casuals (you). I may not be quite as casual as you, but I am nevertheless a devout filthy casual, and that is something I’ve felt for years as well,

When Preach left, recently, he said that the devs don’t want people like him in tha game.

When Stoopzz (competitive PvP) left, he said that the devs don’t want people like him playing the game.

What other segments are there?

I could maybe check on how the professioners feel … but there are none of them left.

M+ seems to be the only segment that is still satisfying its supporters.

Anyway, I wish you the best, and an enjoyable career there!

Thanks for your thoughts. Well written. I’ll probably never play FF because I’m not looking for a replacement for WoW. If I stop playing WoW, I’m done with MMORPGs. They are time consuming and I have less and less time so I will only play single games occasionally in the future. But thanks for comparing these two games. WoW is not dead yet but it’s no longer king. Obviously there are other companies which can create a better and modern game.

I feel i have to correct myself here a bit. I did not mean to say that the RP community in WoW tries to push their RP on you or they harass you or something. As a matter of fact, I’ve always found the RP community in WoW to be the kindest people in the game (at least the majority).

But they can be pretty toxic as well, especially at occasions when you make even the slightest mistake regarding the lore in your RP profile. Many of them will give you pretty strong opinions on how much your profile sucks, instead of offering help and explanation. And god forbid you try to RP as a character from outside of the Warcraft universe (eg. Tolkien character).

The biggest difference I’ve seen so far in FF14 is that they don’t care that much about whether you RP in relation to the lore or not.
I mean that if I were to summarize it by a simple word play, I’d say this:

RP in WoW - LOREplaying
RP in FF14 - ROLEplaying

Just go and play your beloved final failure 14. God speed.

Well i tried ffxiv 14 and leveled a toon just to see what all the fuss was about, and i have to honestly say i hated it.

The main thing was the art style i found it extremely creepy and could not stomach it in the end.

The combat was very dull i just didn’t find it engaging at all. It hets faster later on but is just so removed from the reactive high apm proc based game play i love

I was not invested in the story, it was something i just had to endure, rather than enjoy.

The lack of competitiveness was a massive part i missed, i like analytics, numbers, addon development, ui enhancements, optimisation that is a massive part of the fun in an mmo for me.
Story, mounts, transmog, crafting, housing, collecting i just could not care less about.

In the end there is a tiny competitive element but for the majority of the content is more about people just who like to chill and potter about collecting and stuff its for a very different type of gamer that likes the anime art style. Uninstalled it will probably never play it again.

Im glad you enjou FfXIv i do too  I agree with you that the community is great!
I have played Ff14 for a looong time so im out of my honeymoon phase but I still love it
I like the graphic in Ff14 better but WoW have a better mog system.
I find the tradeskills in Ff14 tideous but they are not needed so i can skip those.

I wish both games had a crafting mat bags in eso shared on all char
I prefer the PvP grounds in Ff14 and you get quicker gear

Overall both games are good and both games need improvements

Sorry, toxic people create toxicity. Having an excuse for toxicity, doesn’t negate it. You can say it creates frustration, not toxicity.

I’ve seen non-skilled players do this plenty of times, literally just toxic people do this.

I’ve been kicked for being a Vulpera, Worgen, for being from Argent Dawn, for being a druid… So many different things that don’t even relate to needing quests in a dungeon either. Toxic people gonna be toxic, especially left unchecked as long as WoW has left them. If WoW GMs actually dealt with toxicity in areas of the game, there would be less of it. So sure, there is a part of fault on Blizzard for how much toxicity exists in the game itself but I wouldn’t say they’re what created said toxicity in the first place.

The gameplay is really the low point of FFXIV given long GCDs and animation-locks, along with how a lot of the abilities play out.

Which is a great thing that WoW should’ve adopted long ago, yes. LFD definitely needs changes.

Sorry to say, but it has. They fired a male victim of sexual harassment before and IIRC a far east country is far more likely to be able to keep such things hidden away so you really don’t know. Riot and other companies have had said issues pop out, so you can’t really ā€˜reaffirm’ because until a month ago WoW didn’t either.

Sort of, after certain amount of alts you have to pay extra/higher tier subs and all that.

Let me know when you’ve been playing it as long as you played WoW and all the honeymoon phase stuff is over with.

Fair enough. This is exactly what I meant by encouraging people to stay with WoW if competitiveness is what they look for in a MMO. It’s actually great to see that you tried FF and the same exact things that I love about it made you return to WoW in the end.

Everyone has a different play style and it’s only good for the industry if one game focuses on the endgame and competition, while the other is more slow-paced.

Although I wouldn’t say FF is for anime lovers. I mean, if you are a fan of anime, then sure, FF is the way to go. But it doesn’t mean that other people wouldn’t enjoy other aspects of the game, you know. That was exactly my case. I’ve never been into anime, as I find it silly and don’t understand it much. But the game has much more to offer and the positives of the other stuff outweigh the anime feel in my case.

Wish you happy and enjoyable hours of game time in WoW! :slightly_smiling_face:

I’d say TBC classic is the way to go then.

The reactionary defence mechanism in the comment section is amazing again. I really need to say, the way how a certain group of people keep on responding to anything near critical about their fav game is quite the turn off for new forum members…

In case you didn’t recognise it: You guys aren’t exactly drawing the image of a friendly welcoming committee in the forum but rather scare off anyone caring for the game enough to make an attempt and express constructive criticism.

Besides that: Why are you always acting like a forum would be a place to solemnly blow sugar into a company’s derriĆØre? People opening posts to make suggestions, report about their game experience and every now and then also share their reasons why they are leaving, is all part of a healthy and unbiased forum dynamic.

But the 20.000th ā€œCan I have your gold?ā€ comment is or what? I’d rather read a post someone has at least put the effort in to use their own words than reading a dead pun over and over again just because those posting it feel the need to at least express their disagreement in a scornful way if they don’t have anything else to say that might be halfways constructive or friendly.

Hunting every forum poster criticising the game or about to quit down like a hateful mob isn’t helping Blizzard’s image in any way. It rather gives some hints to why the game community is toxic af…

You obviously enjoy everything in wow that I consider dull and boring, and if you love FF so much it’s basically a good signal for me to never play it.

If I could skip all of that content and get an end game playable alt, I would do it every time. In my eyes, there’s TOO MANY casual-focused chore hoops to jump through.

Which wow currently have, and plenty of, so to say.

It’s best to let people come to their own conclusion in terms of what makes them happy.

Ok youve lost me here.
You have praised ff14 so much, beign mad at yourself for not quiting wow earlier…and you finish all this wall of text with…ill come back.
bruh.

That’s what people not limiting their game experience to one single games do tho? They might quit / pause for years to come back and check the next expansion out. What’s wrong with that?

And yes, I could do without the repetitive FF14 mantra, since there is a whole bunch of other games (and free time activities on a whole) to check out while giving WoW a break.
