We’ve seen it for almost two decades now. Personally, I’m proud to say I’ve Roleplayed on this realm since 2006, and in that time, I’ve seen some incredible characters, stories and made some equally incredible friends.
That being said, I’ve also seen some pretty horrible things. Over the years there have been plenty of examples of roleplayers being ugly to one another over IC and OOC matters.
With the upcoming expansion, the hot topic is obviously the new race. We’ve seen examples in Cataclysm with the release of the Worgen race, then another in Legion with the release of the Demon Hunter Class of RPers excluding others in the early days of their release.
Please remember that we all RP on Argent Dawn for a mutual respect of creative storytelling through our characters. Don’t be so quick to disregard a Dracthyr player and ignore them OOC just because you don’t like the race or concept. Our characters live in an ever-changing world, and the introduction of the Dragon Isles is just another chapter in their story.
Naturally you can have your character dislike them, but play it out In Character. The difference is you are still engaging with the player, not just disregarding and excluding them for their choice of creativity.
My personal advice to those who wish to play a Dracthyr In character would be this;
Think about your Dracthyr’s knowledge on the mortal races and cities.
How well versed would they be in interacting with humans, elves, dwarves, orcs etc.
Have them be curious and inquisitive of their new surroundings, as opposed to being a regular at the Pig and Whistle for the past ten years – they’ve just arrived here!
Don’t use the race as an excuse to be overpowered and expect consequences In Character if you do so.
Let’s all just embrace the fact that, behind our characters, we’re all alike. We partake in something a very small minority of WoW Players do and we’re looked at as strange for doing so. The last thing we should be doing is ostracizing our own.
Its going to be expected, regardless of what you believe this thread will do. It is currently too soon to say what they are to be like.
The ones who will be weird about it will exist and, much like the vulpera, worgen and many others who have come before, we just need to accept that it is going to occur.
My suggestion would be to compile a guide on how to RP a Dracthyr once we have more information about them.
People are going to be hyped and doom/gloom about this.
I think this arguably is the most important aspect of how we need to react to meeting Dracthyr players. Give them a gentle nudge in the right direction rather than being overtly hostile and unkind, especially if it’s clear they’re newer to the game, and don’t use it as an excuse to be a bully. It’ll be good for them and good for the RP community.
(Not that I don’t doubt for a second that a good section of AD will soil their britches and pull their hair out over it like they did the Void Elves, Vulpera, and so on…)
People still do even today, it’s frankly tiring at this point and I question what sort of point they’re trying to make when they use Vulpera as an insult.
on topic tho i think as long as the backlash to it remains IC it’s probably fine. Dragons have caused enough trouble to be distrusted by many, amplify that with them being Deathwing’s work, and it starts stacking up pretty hard
They’ve also helped many.
And it depends on the scales. I don’t see anyone being overly enthusiastic about seeing something that resembles a member of the Black Flight.
But say, veterans of the Wrathgate may be happy to see a Red.
We’ve been denegrated, spat on, ignored, made fun off or excluded since vanilla.
To be fair, that was like very far away for many a non-Heroic character. Wasn’t it said in some lore book that until recently villagers in Redridge hadn’t even seen a night elf, let alone spoke to one?
THen he makes fun of Stormwind… then he heads back to the Dragon Isles and gets WRECKED by their local gnoll population?
Or makes fun of the humans before some peasant points to Onyxias skull hanging by the entrance.
Mighta struggled with Gnolls, but handled your kind well enough.
