A good investment for Blizzard - Server Merge / Cross-Server

Since Blizzard only understands the language of money, (and they objectively suck at longterm investments) I will give arguments for introducing cross-server functionality or server mergers.

Mop has the potential to bring in the most players to classic wow, being a beloved expansion to a lot of players, rivaling that of wrath. However, with the current handling of servers, this is going to end up being far worse - possibly worse than any other expansion.

With the current state of server populations, where most if not all servers are monofaction, people aren’t going to stick around as long as they would. This is a revenue loss from early sub cancellations.

Returning players that are hyped for MoP, but are stuck on a dead realm, or are the wrong faction on a monofaction PvP(lol) server, will NOT pay for a server transfer. They would rather suck it up and not play(people are already used to the idea of giving blizzard the middle finger) than actually transfer - yes some people will transfer, but its overall a net loss compared to the gain you get from stable subs for a few months.

Merging the PvP servers will create a balanced megaserver. Yes, some PvErs will be mad that they might die(shocker) on a PvP realm. This is where the real cashgrab kicks in - PvErs are more likely to pay than PvPers for a server transfer. They will transfer off to their PvE realms, leaving the PvP realm playerbase healthy(at least for a while). After a couple weeks the servers would be locked to transfers once more. And this is where cross-realm would kick in as well, largely preventing the problem from reoccuring.

Cross-realm was already a part of MoP originally, and not seeing it implemented simply isnt “classic”. I understand the ideas against introducing crossrealm, I hate it myself, but with the current server issue, there really is no other choice to keep the game stable.

Getting ganked? Get your friend to invite you to their healthy(er) popped server. Or invite them to even the odds! Got a problem finding raids cuz your faction on the server is dead? Np, someone can cross-server invite you. If those options arent there, i’d rather unsub and go play on a private server, for free, with more players, with better customer support, and no botting.

Blizzard, don’t be stupid, and do something productive for once.

+1, wises words.

No botting on pirate servers? LOL XD

Up to this point though I find it a well constructed argument.

MVP’s don’t have any moderation powers. I don’t disagree that there are “less” but they are prevalent.

This is not correct, as another player noted earlier a banwave did go out as usual. And as you yourself noted there are financial gains for both sides to ban and remove, while the other re-create bots in their illegal industry.

Edit:
As long as players continue to enjoy pirate servers and/or services this problem will continue to perpetuate.

Excuse me, they ban a handful percentage

Some good ideas, but too much effort for today’s Blizzard.

CRZ is probably the nicest way they can handle this because server merges/transfers are still a shockingly lacking service. Not being able to take your guilds and guild banks with you (especially now that guilds have actual goods and progression), along with having to leave most of your gold behind, is a complete deal-breaker.

What’s done is done. Rebalancing the population through direct movement is too far gone, but cross-realm functionality being expanded is as good a workaround as any. You gain more world interaction without someone getting bent over.

How so? On the three English PvP servers there are currently ~10 000 horde players, and ~4500 alliance. Is that balanced? If we include all the European PvP servers horde outnumber alliance by about 3x.

You can’t tell me that sounds like a good time, and if you do I don’t see why you don’t just roll the minority faction on one of those servers and have yourself a good time.

It’s not going to happen, because there simply aren’t enough players on the Alliance side. And if it by some miracle does happen it won’t last long, because being outnumbered just isn’t fun, and you’ll be back to your mono-faction PvP server again before long.

The only solution is warmode. You might not like it, but it is. That way those few that actually want to engage in world PvP can, and those that don’t want to get jumped by 5 players while questing won’t have.

…You’ve just talked about how Blizzard are bad at making long term investments and then immediately followed it up with one of the worst possible suggestions one could ever make.

Brilliant. Love it.

-10 , I rather play on a 2000 ppl server than be on a megaserver since they harbour the 99% toxicity kids that belive its their god given right to run around and mess up other peoples quests/objectives at max lvl…

As for your “monofaction” issue… that is player created 100% and whatever blizzard “attempts” will be circumvented by players ! …

there is evidence of the Megatoxcicity servers attitude in RDF and has been thruout Cata classic , the instant you have more than 1 gehennas in the group it will either wipe over an over again on trash because the Ghennas ppl want to skip 3 mobs to gain a 3 second faster clear because they dont need the XP / rep for anything. It is even worse when you get 2-3 gehennas and then a Venoxis on that , the group is 100% a fail group with the Toxic lvls of Mustard gas / anthrax !

Keep servers as they are and let players themselves choose wheter or not they want to be part of the gutter group

Gehennnas and Firemaw are already big server and have the same population , one alliance, the other horde. So perfect for a merge.

And when blizzard enforce balance between pop. it work like in sod or anniversary.

Well, would you look at that. MoP launches and everything is a massive lagfest on Gehennas and Firemaw.

Imagine if people listened to you and merged the realms, the amount of lag and queues…
