A lag/disconnect problem

Hello, since patch 8.3 I’ve been experiencing strange lags which sometimes result in a disconnect, there seem to be no threads about specifically this problem, and no other players seem to have it, too.

While in some instanced zones - dungeons and raids, doesn’t seem to affect battlegrounds or arenas - I get strange lags, as if I my internet was out, but it’s not, I can talk on Discord without any problem. Happens in the non-instanced world too, but far more rarely.
I can even view chat messages that are sent, but the gameplay remains in a stasis. Sometimes it ends in a lag, sometimes it doesn’t.

One of the strangest things with this lag was a situation I’ve had on a dungeon, where I was in one place, got the stasis-lag, moved to my party, got out of the stasis, casted a spell and dealt damage, and got disconnected, to see me back in the place I had the lag in the first place.

It happens on arenas too. Rated is the most annoying, loosing cr due to that.

Sounds like you are getting some packet loss based on that last description you made.

It’s important to note that just because your other internet applications are running, doesnt mean the problem is not connection based. The internet is much like a road network with many different roads. The one to discord might be fine for you but the one to WoW game servers may need some repair.

So to look into this further, we will need to see how your PC is connecting to our game servers. Easiest thing to check both packet loss and performance is to run a MTR test and you can find a guide on how to do that here.

Post the results of that test in a reply to this thread if you are unsure about the results and we can take a look at it for you :slight_smile:

I have no clue what any of this means, but I DC on average 10 times a day with no othet net issues since 8.3, these are the results I got from that, had to edit it as it wouldn’t let me post links.

This seems to be the cause of the issue. For the most part the connection is routing normally but this is showing that occasionally you are being routed via the US before you connect to our servers.

These tests you did are going from Blizzard to your PC so on this line this will be between our servers and your own PC. It would be best to show the MTR results specifically to your Internet Provider who will be able to check why you are being routed to the US then back to Europe every so often.

For yourself Gelennil, its a similar issue in that theres a server with severe packet loss. Same principle applies and if you show these to your Internet Provider and highlight the packet loss on some of the tests, they will know what to do :slight_smile:
