A lot of issues with dragonriding mechanics and mounts

Summoning through a click or or pressing a keybind for one of the 6 existing dragonriding which is already on the action bar produces a distinct “drag and drop” sound as if you are trying to reposition the icon which briefly appears on top of the cursor when it is positioned anywhere else on the screen. This is not the case with any other standard mounts.

There are also many situations not necessarily limited to the Tyrhold Reservoir location where mounting up summons the drake model but you can’t fly or continue walking on the ground with the mount continuing to animate over you.

Another issue with dragonriding keybinds constantly reappearing on mount-actionbar once repositioned or removed completely.

And the last most egregious bug after the patch has to do with Proto-dragonriding variants (including special models such as Raszageth); the camera angle and position has been completely messed up since the patch.

It’s fine when you’re on the ground but as soon as you are mid-air, instead of your mounted character appearing in the center of the screen, they almost drop out off the screen towards the bottom side, based on the zoom level. You can barely see half of the model and the other half is covered by the default position of the action bar, an awful experience. How impactful is this? Very, especially when dragon racing and I am not so sure everyone is aware they can modify the zoom-out function even further than the game usually allows.

Hey Homeopathy,

It sounds like you may have a few issues with your interface / addons in this case. Could you try resetting your interface and see how it goes?

It’s not my interface. Game camera is now anchored much lower and at a different angle for this mount model so it is affecting everyone. There are many reports both on your forums and other community hubs.

I could offer you a similar much older issues that were never addressed either. This is not something player have control over.

https://www.wowhead.com/item=131734/spirit-of-echero
camera position is off-center, very low

https://www.wowhead.com/item=129922/bridle-of-the-ironbound-wraithcharger
camera position is off center, but very high towards the top end of the screen, literally the opposite

It is all fine when you’re on the ground but as soon as you start flying around, the problem becomes noticeable and it is so bad that it discourages players from using them completely.

Any bug report would need to go through our developers:

I can’t tell how much of a priority the problems with older mounts may be to developers, but I urge you to forward this issue to them if possible as Dragonriding is the main pillar of the current expansion and it seems like everyone stopped using Renewed Proto-Drake since Wednesday for this very reason.

Many are unhappy over this, especially those who unlocked Raszageth skin.

Proto dragon model camera position and angle at which it focuses on the player is still broken, mount literally falling out of the lower end of the screen without with max zoom out.

Using any dragonriding mount triggers an unwanted drag and drop action on the mouse cursor, which gets cancelled immediately but produces an annoying sound.

Many other issues with player mounting up, model appearing but being forced to walk around the Tyrhold Reservoir area.

Yes my mount is strangely insistant that my character carries it around on her head during Time Rifts.

I guess all the time travel tires it out!

This has still not been addressed. In addition to everything mentioned so far, this bug also allows you to continue mounting up (visible cast bar in process) if combat is forced upon you. The standard behavior for all mounts in wow has always been to interrupt the cast if someone attacks you or if a monster spawns/walks close to you.

How game breaking is this? You would know if you ever attempted playing in Warmode. Fortunately Dragonriding mounts are unavailable in battlegrounds so some may have missed it.

This doesn’t happen always, but at least 80% of the time you start mounting up, just as the drag-and-drop mount icon action briefly appears at the mouse cursor (followed up with a specific sound).

In addition to all the camera problems relating to Renewed-Proto Drake models (all character races), Blood Elf females (only?) seem to be experiencing the same thing also with Highland Drakes - they are just as bad looking, borderline unusable. I forgot to mention that the animation for mounting up (dragon appearing behind you) often fails to appear if the player character has used some kind of an ability in the previous few seconds; I can also name the Auctioneer and similar interactable NPCs as a possible cause.

I’ve been submitting bug reports before and after patch release, and it is still being ignored. Maybe you’ll fix it in a month, maybe we’ll have to wait until next patch. I don’t know what to say anymore. If it were anything else, I’d understand priorities, but this is such an integral part of the expansion and I can’t believe it is still being ignored, OR SOMEHOW no developer plays the game to have noticed any of these problems.

This is no longer a simple reminder but should serve better to publicly shame the company over lack of action. You’ve offered some assurances in my other topic, but that is something we only spend 30 minutes a week on. We partake in Dragonriding a little more often than that you can understand the displeasure.

This should be high prio stuff!

Unreal to me how you wouldn’t notice these things in testing as a developer. Feels like bots running the company.

Flying out of the Garrison in Draenor with Evoker’s Soar causes instant disconnect the moment zone text changes. It just might be one of those older anti cheat measures stopping you from moving faster than originally allowed. This isn’t even with the full 900%+ speed but the gimped 500%+ version of the ability, which is the limit for this racial ability outside of Dragon Isles.

Figure out what’s the cause and a lot of potential problems with Dragonriding over EK and Kalimdor can be eliminated before it becomes widely available for the public.

In a day or two we are getting the Kalimdor Cup event and while Dragonriding will be limited only to specific courses, there are still some problems with it. I remember a pretty horrible one from the previous PTR cycle where you would be dismounted by force the very second you passed the final gate, which would in most situations maintain the momentum to send you flying forward and ultimately result in a death or disconnect.

The drake-tending racing quest taking place over Suramar had/has a problem where activating the speed boost results with a disconnect, but if you rotate the camera 180 degrees away from your general direction of movement before pressing a speed boost button, your game won’t crash at all. There’s also a race around Blackrock Mountain and Pandaria where you for some miraculous reason do not disconnect. What’s different? Probably basic coding, something for which you can compare raw text and copy paste the solution. In my opinion, I believe it has something to do with dozens of World Quests littering Suramar map, which keep popping in and out as you fly around during the quest.

It has been a month since I made the first post and on the last day of my subscription nothing has been done about any of the issues in topics I’ve written about over this period. Last night I launched the new PTR version of the game (which already has a release date) and everything mentioned is in the same, broken state. Do what you will with the feedback, but it would be nice for once if some of these bugs got fixed before new features unlock on live realms.

in think old mounts with the dragonriding update have now lowered cameras like the df ones. for example the golden shop mount is now the same as the slither drake df mount. much lower camera since the update.

Slither drake camera should be the golden standard as it seems to be optimally angled and positioned, with focus just little below the center of the screen. It appears fine both on the ground and in the air.

zoom out is only around 50% but you can already see the difference, if I were to slightly reduce it, my renewed proto drake would fall off the bottom side of the screen, only when I zoom outwards beyond the max value which the game allows (without use of scripts or addons, something not everybody is familiar with) does it begin to look fine

https://i.imgur.com/uQ8CiYo.jpg slither (good one)
https://i.imgur.com/ZSbxMzP.jpg proto (most problematic one)

then some of the regular mounts, none of which we can expect to become available for dragonriding so soon but they’re a great example of what players would prefer and what feels awful to the point where you don’t want to use the mount at all

the worst thing about low camera on basic flying mounts is whenever you lift off the ground but continue to hover, it feels as if you have sunk through the ground as the mount model begins to clip through the floor

https://i.imgur.com/35FIKFU.jpg wrathbound ironcharger (focus is far above the center)
https://i.imgur.com/baAIu2E.jpg invincible (feels just right, just far enough from center)
https://i.imgur.com/UjQHvfi.jpg moose mounts and some other (does something feel wrong here?!)

Now back to the issue with renewed proto drake. One patch ago everything was fine and it looked good, but suddenly it changed and it does not seem like a bug, but somebody must have done it on purpose.

As with the other topic concerning garrison mage tower two-way feature of the portal travel being disabled, here it looks like someone also went out of their way to change how something had worked for years only to make it worse… if you get the chance please ask them what their intention was.

Hey Homeopathy,

Appreciate you taking the time to gather all this information, however I’m afraid that customer support wouldn’t be able to address this kind of issue on our end.

Please do send everything in a bug report though, this kind of information is usually very useful for QA and the developers to identify issues with the game.

Have developers been made aware of these problems because it’s only been two months? Some of them surely must be playing the game and must have noticed how bad the camera is with Highland and Grotto drakes for Blood Elves and how broken in general it is for every other race in case of Renewed PD. If so, how it this such a low priority? It’s not like we have hundreds of mounts which are usable on the Dragon Isles, but only 5 or 6, two of which have amazing skins from raid end bosses, both of which suffer from this.

I figured out what the the summoning/tooltip/drag and drop reported in the first post is all about, the root cause is game forcefully pushing out dragonriding abilities on the pilot action bar if one of them is missing or has been moved away it starts causing all sorts of annoyances and problems. The game is constantly attempting to put one of the missing active abilities back on the bar and once addons start blocking some of these actions, things start to interact in the worst possible way (a qualify of life improvement becomes an inconvenience).

Yryadorne, please try being a little more consistent when it comes to interacting with customers. Sometimes it seems like you’ll immediately abandon everything at your table to make sure something gets fixed and other times you just casually move on, leaving us to drown.

Why does it still feel like the only way of reaching developers is by hunting then down on Twitter? I understand there are things CS can’t help with, but you most definitely can make sure the information reaches the person in charge.

After months of barking up the tree over something so integral to the current expansion experience, constant issues with the live service and seeing the support team act completely nonchalant, the only agency the player is left with is to cancel subscription.
