A new flavor of random freezes

As per title, since a few days ago I’ve been having a new flavor of WoW freezes I cannot make sense of:

the game (and only the game, rest of the PC is fine) will randomly freeze indefinitely, forcing me to close and restart. Tried a clean install, nothing changed. The freeze happens well into a gaming session, does not seem to be tied to any particular in-game action nor other programs in the background - it happens even with just system and WoW running. Upon relogging, all my preferences are reset.

I run no addons and I am forcing DirectX11 at startup to circumvent startup freezes, if that info helps.

Same happened to me yesterday. I was flying from Valdrakken to Zaralek Cavern and the game freeze. Today from Valdrakken to Azure Archives. This “game freeze” thing never happened to me before until now.

Update: cleared cache, cleared wtf folder, nothing seems to work. The only difference I noticed is that, while the freezes are often fatal, occasionally the game will unfreeze after a minute or so. On my end it’s a retail-only issue, SoD works without a hitch.

Update: apparenly freezes can also happen during character / realm select. It’s getting real bothersome, especially considering I have just purchased a brand new expansion, would love to have some recognition of this issue, and what’s being done to address it.

An evolving freeze - I swear I’ve never seen anything like it. Now it not only resets my in-game preferences, but also resets my realm selection upon relogging in. At this point I’m pretty sure it’s not a graphical issue, nor an issue on my end - every other piece of software on my machine runs like clockwork.

I understand it’s not a priority for customer / technical service to assist a paying customer, but I’d be nice to at least receive some sort of acknowledgement, and perhaps an idea of what’s going on.

Tried a scan and repair, game re-downloaded 12gb worth of stuff. Still freezes.

I too am impacted by this issue.

I find that the trigger for a freeze is usually moving my mouse out of the wow screen ( I have multiple monitors), upon moving the mouse back in to the wow screen sometimes the entire game will lock up for approx 2-3 minutes (I have timed this really not exaggerating) albiet the music plays as normal. The issue intermittant - IE most times I can move the mouse in and out without issue - but does occur at least one in most gameplay sessions).

If I click on the screen during a freeze windows will display the “This program is not responding” message for a few seconds - even after it dissapears the game remains frozen.

On regaining control of the game, my character is always where it was when the game locked up, even if it was dragonriding. If under attack at the time it never loses health during the freeze.

I have also been having persistent issues with game settings (predominately chat, social, and game camera settings) being reset albiet I hadn’t linked them to the freezes.

I’ve exactly the same problems since last update.
Micro-freeze every now and then, while the system tells me i’m at 80 fps.

Playing on a fresh install, 0 addons, all drivers up to date. All started with last WoW update.

Two scan and repairs later, still nothing. Ticket netted me the usual well-meaning, but ultimately useless laundry list of stuff I had already tried more than once.

As I’m apparently not the only one expriencing this issue, it seems a game-side thing. Would be nice to get some sort of acknowledgement, I shelled a nice amount of cash for the next Xpac and this is just not acceptable.

Same issue here. Ran perfectly fine yesterday, today I’ve had 3 crashes started by a complete freeze. Most definitely a game-side thing as this issue showed up after the weekly reset.

Reopened the ticked I had originally submitted with more info on the bug, or whatever it is, pointing out that I had posted on the technical support forums to no avail.

The reply? “scan and repair the game, update your drivers, if it doesn’t work check out the Technical Support forums.”

Funny part is, just as I was replying to the GM, the game crashed.

Finally got somewhere. Sharing a Gm tip that seems to have solved the issue, at least for me:

  1. While the game is running, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc on your keyboard to open the Task Manager.
  2. Click the Processes tab.
-Note: Windows 10 users should click the Details tab.
  3. Right-click the .exe process, or the x64.exeprocess, and select Set Affinity.
  4. Uncheck one of the cores and click OK.

Been having no crashes for the past few hours.

Well, must have been a fluke, as the freezes and disconnects are in full swing again. At this point I’m at a loss, and so is Blizzard’s support. Good luck if you have this same issue.
