I have a new game mode in my mind for several days. In my opinion, this fixes mainly the boring weekly mythic plus vault grind in a fun way and adds a new competitive mode which doesn’t require you to wait for hours. Please read the whole system.
Requirements:
-6 dps, 2 healers, 2 tanks(to make two teams)
-Solo queue or duo queue(1 tank - 1dps or 1 healer - 1 dps)(Note: duo queue will increase tank and healer population.)
-An intelligent system which creates two teams(both teams should have at least 1 class with bl and 1 class with cr).
-Rotating affixes each week to make diversity in runs and make some classes better each week
-Mythic plus timer(same for each team)
-A rating system to make balanced teams.
Explanation of the mode
Team 1 and Team 2 compete each other to finish a dungeon in mythic pool first. Teams can track each others progress by seeing their percentage on mobs and killed bosses. This tracking method will make the other team take risks to pass the other team.
Hesitations and their explanation
-What if a player in the losing team is playing better than each player?
Damage done and healing done should be included in rating loss and gain. For example, If a person in the losing team did the highest dps, he should loss the minimum amount of rating. Calculation for the healer can account healing done. For the tank, average dps and his own death count should be accounted because it determines how good he pulled the mobs and how well he endured to those pulls. (System should compare these stats according to other team not the whole world)
edit: Damage done looks like a simple stat but it reflects how well you react to wipes. Don’t forget that wipes and death decrease your overall dps as the player dont intrup, used a cc or a defensive in the right moment.
-What if a player leaves?
Dungeon deserter and rating loss penalty will help fix this problem. Also if someone leaves early there should be a surrender option with voting for the 2nd team.
-What will be the dungeon’s difficulty?
Difficulty of the dungeon should be +10. It should be fixed to a certain difficulty to not kill the original mythic plus push system and for the vault.
Conclusion
This mode will give pug players an opportunity to have fun and compete in a pve environment. It makes vault grind fun for casual players which will distinguish by rating system from competitive players.
What is your opinion? Should blizzard implement this mode? Or is it a bad idea?
A good idea overall. But healing done giving more rating isnt really fair. Like in mythic+ if a group knows what to do, I dont have to heal as much as with a group that does nothing to prevent damage. Might want to look into that. Same goes for tanking.
The whole game is build around dps preformance.
I agree with you but calculating other metrics require more advanced tech. Dispel, cc, healer damage should be calculated in an optimal system. In a simplest way, healing done answers in a two team scenario. For example, healer in the losing team did an immense amount of healing, this shows he gave an effort thus, he should loss less amount of rating. On the other hand, if the healer in winning team made more healing this means he obviously played better then the other healer. Another small thing is that, healer dps ceiling changes a lot based on class(monk vs oracle priest).
And the issue would persist.
This way the group-rating is dependend on how the healer preforms instead of a group dynamic. The best way (in my opinion) would be measurement through the timer. The faster you clear it as a group, the more rating.
That means leaving out the versus component.
But that gives you another problem: premade groups that raid together for example will preform better then a pug.
And there will be because peope will complain they can only queue max in duos and not with all their friends.
Still a good idea overall, but the implementation will be really hard.
Its only you that makes that boring. I haven’t grinded a +10 in 5 months. Just push keys until you are bored.
If you hyper focus ONLY on rewards you will not appreciate the game. Because dont forget: Gear has a purpose. Its not a mount or a transmog. It’s intended to help you achieve the “next level of difficulty”.
So go. Get those +11s and +12s done.
I dont like this.
If I wanted to play a BG against another team I would do so. And if I wanted a 10-man raid then I would ask for that.
M+ is what it is. A 5 man experience.
Also consider the horrible experience:
My god. Team B has a Oracle DPriest and DH tank. They will for sure win. Why should I even try to do my best?
Right now I can actually claim that spec dosent matter. In the end, it only determines at what point I will stop playing because it becomes too annoying. Because a comp that is X% more powerful will not affect my individual performance.
However. If all of a sudden I am competing against a team that does play a “meta comp” and actually does 20% more than me. Then I lost the game because of the spec I chose.
What do you mean with boring weekly mythic plus grind? If you think it’s that boring, a mini-MDI system won’t make it any less boring. It’s the same dungeon, same difficulty, you just need to be lucky with the group you get into?
Having healing-done or damage-done as metric for the rating gain/loss is just meaningless, and only enables degenerate gameplay. In that way it’s the opposite; the less overall healing was done, the better the group performed (as long as you finish without double-digit deaths).
Cool idea, but I would like solo m+ with it’s own rating first… this could be another addition, as well as my suggestion with addint new titles and achievements for M+ (deathless runs, etc)
Meh, people do focus on rewards nowadays: titles and rating. I would bet that most of players would stop playing if there would be no raider io or any form of rating
Yeah, I get you. And you are 100% correct. But how would a “non competitive” wow look like? And in particular, a “non competitive” M+.
Let me remind you that RIO did not exist. If I remember, it was implemented in SL S4 or something like that. Before that, there was no RIO. NOTHING.
Yet, people made up Raider IO addon to track how high of an M+ key people could do. In order to remove that “competitive” aspect, then you should delete all dungeons except Heroic Dungeon.
So while I think you are 100% correct on paper. I also believe that in practice its not possible to make WOW “non-competitive” with out killing the game completely and turning it to something else that is not WOW.
