Hello, I don’t understand how the appearance of the second pet works.
I have five different pets, two big cats, a t-rex, a bear and a bird. I use the feline as the main pet and the second feline always appears as the second pet, which would be the second pet captured.
Shouldn’t the second pet appear random? And change? How do I make the other random pets appear? I also put the second feline in the stable, but it always appears as the second pet from the stable…
I didn’t quite understand the mechanism.
The second pet summoned, when you have chosen Animal Companion, is determined by what pet you’ve placed in the first stable slot in your stables.
By "stables’, I mean what you access when you head into a major city, or certain villages, and talk to a Stable Master. If you’re using the default stables interface(no addon that changes the UI for it), your active pet slots(5 of them) will be displayed on the left side of the stable interface, vertically, and all other stabled inactive pets are found on the grid pages at the bottom of the interface, lined horizontally.
If you want to reliably summon a specific pet as your second pet, put that pet in the first stable slot(top left position in the grid) on the first page in your stables.
In the meantime, thanks for replying.
Today I lost a good half hour and in the end I was resigned… I did as you told me, that is to put the pet I wanted as second in the first slot. I tried for half an hour to do it but the feline always appeared. I’m telling you about the left side with the five slots. In sheer desperation, I opened the talent tab, went to the “Animal Companion” passive, and read. He says that the first pet placed in the stable appears as the second pet. Basically I have to leave the secondary pet in the stable that I want to see next to the first; so i brought the t-rex into the first slot of the stable, at the bottom (not on the left) and it magically appeared next to the first one. Now, I walk around with four pets instead of five. So the secondary pet must be left in the stable to see it next to the first one.
You misunderstood me then, this is exactly what I said…
When you talk to a stable master, your active pets which you bring with you are displayed on the left side of the interface, in a vertical line(it says Active in the header above them).
Your stable, where all inactive pets are stored, is shown as a grid layout at the bottom of that same interface, in a horizontal line.
The Animal Companion talent when picked will summon the pet you’ve placed in your stables, the grid-based slots at the bottom of the interface. Meaning you have to put the pet you want as your second pet, in that grid, in the top left slot of said grid(on the first page). NOT in the vertical line which displays your active pets.
I need another help. Where are the “permissions” to tame undead pets, hippogriffs, spirit beasts etc? Are they quests?
skill books for the most part look on wowhead on what you need. or go to petopia to check what skill you need, and there is a link to wowhead there
Note that Spirit Beasts don’t require any special knowledge or unlocks in order to be tameable. They do, however, require you to be specced into Beast Mastery as they’re classed as Exotic. As for some of the other families that do require some form of unlock to be tameable…
Hunter Tomes
Hunter Tomes are special books for Hunters, which are used to learn the ability to tame pets from associated pet families. Note that certain races may have the knowledge to tame some of these creatures by default and thus, do not need that particular tome. Example: Undead/Forsaken by default know how to tame certain undead creatures.
The hunter tomes available in-game are:
Click on each one to follow the link to Wowhead where you can see how to obtain specific tomes.
• [Ancient Tome of Dinomancy] - Teaches how to tame Direhorns.
• [Mecha-Bond Imprint Matrix] - Teaches how to tame Mechanical pets.
• [Tome of the Hybrid Beast] - Teaches how to tame Feathermanes.
• [Blood-Soaked Tome of Dark Whispers] - Teaches how to tame Blood Beasts.
• [Gargon Training Manual] - Teaches how to tame the Gargon of Revendreth.
• [How to School Your Serpent] - Teaches how to tame Cloud Serpents.
• [Simple Tome of Bone-Binding] - Teaches how to tame Undead beasts.
• [How to train a Dragonkin] - Teaches how to tame Dragonkin.
One of the newest additions, as of Dragonflight, isn’t technically a tome you learn, but a skill you get in the form of a quest reward, to tame Ottuks, a member of the Rodent pet family:
• [Ottuk Taming] – Teaches how to tame Ottuks.
Thank you so much
