A question on the portal room

I have a question on the portal room since I’m interested in how most players treat it, I heard many people already say that there is no way to get to the shadowlands unless you die but what about the rest of the portals to other cities and even other worlds, I know portals are lore friendly and just about any mage can create them but still I’d like to hear people’s thoughts on if they think the portal room is cannon or not cannon, or even if some people have their own interpretations of it.

We see human commoners visiting Oribos, so there is evidently access from Stormwind to the airport of the afterlives. I would assume the same applies to Orgrimmar.

As for the other portals, just treat them the way you prefer IC. I personally think the 24/7 portal access seems more like player convenience rather than a strict representation of lore - but I’m not about to correct people treating it as such.

Far as I know the only explicitly noncanon portal in the portal room ia the WoD portal to Ashran, as Draenor was 100% sealed off.

The Oribos one is very much real and gets used by NPCs, such as Calia, Taelia, Ol’ Emma, and a whole host of azeroth characters soon.tm that have been shown in datamined cutscenes.

Far as I care, the portal room is as such entirely canon except for the WoD portal. Though it probably isn’t free.

You think I can find a cheap ticket to the broken isles online?

Cheap? Depends on if you want to arrive on your feet. Extra if you wanna be on the ground, instead of a couple meters above it

You can enter Oribos (since it’s basically an airport), but you can’t access the realms without dying/pledging yourself to a covenant.

This too seems to be defunct as somewhere during chains of domination we see members of the azeroth gang trudging around the realms, with no indication of being signed up nor anyone commenting on their presence.

This is all very confusing, so you can enter oribos but not the shadowlands but I thought oribos is in the shadowlands too.

Oribos is pretty much a soul airport. Can’t enter the other parts of the Shadowland without a ticket (being dead.)

Ooooh I see now, it’s like border control I guess.

You can at this point go just about wherever you feel like regardless of whether you’re dead or not.

While initially you had to either be a soul or signed up with the covenants, as it stands now if you wanna for whatever reason go to Revendreth (without obvious malicious intent), you could almost certainly get away with it.

Really, people could get fully into RPing this expansion’s current content, if they wanted to. It’d be justified with the lore.

Main reason people don’t is because the whole Shadowlands setting sucks in a major way.

I did find it to be a bit overwhelming as a new player, you enter into this strange realm and there was so much mumbo jumbo I didn’t really understand, but I’m just standing there nodding waiting for my next paycheck.

Don’t worry that’s also how long time players feel

Can you? This isn’t me trying to be snide and one up you, I just don’t much care for the lore. Yeah, really unique take isn’t it. One of a kind there. I just sort of assumed the player character was a special chosen one and the NPC goons like Dezco and Old Emma had to sit in the Oribos waiting lounge.

Unless I somehow missed Jaina and (more forgivably) Tyrande having their induction rituals into the Night Fae covenant, yeah.

What, did you expect Shadowlands’ lore to stay consistent between patches?

Also Shandris chilling at the Heart of the Forest!

so assuming the lore characters from azeroth isn’t exceptions
it is totally lore friendly to skip on over to death realm and have tea with grandma every sunday, what a strange time to be alive.

and there’s no reason to believe they are.

So yeah, have tea with granny who died 10 years ago, catch up every now and then.
Unless she went to Maldraxxus then you may want to reconsider your priorities.

Can always go cheer granny on as she crushes skulls and cracks ribs at the Theatre of Pain

Visit grandpa as he gets lashed by a shirtless vampire dude.

The vampire says it’s for grandpas own good because grandpa didn’t give money to the homeless that one time in an alternate reality he wasn’t in control of.
