A quick warning about making DKs

If you make a DK on a realm you do not have a level 55 on, the way it works is that the first DK you make you can make anywhere but the fresh realms, but if you try to make another then you can’t on a realm you don’t have a level 55+ on.

You get the message:

Once the Wrath of the Lich King Classic pre-expansion update arrives, you’ll be able to create and level Death Knight characters. Here’s how it works:

  • Your first Death Knight created in any realm is free of restrictions (except for fresh start realms that will open with the pre-expansion patch).
  • Any Death Knights created after your first one must be on a different realm, and require an existing level 55 character on the same realm.
  • You may only have one Death Knight per realm.

Only the first one can be made on any realm (except fresh)

Can you un-delete it?

Only if you have played it, otherwise it disappears from your restore list, this is from another poster in Customer Support, I haven’t tried it as I’ve made a DK on my main realm on my main account.

I tried to make one on Gehennas but my character list on that server is broken and I get “error creating character” when I try to make one on my second account.

The poster who originally made a post in customer service has commented about a mistake they made. I have altered the first post accordingly.

One thing I did try personally was making a DK deleting it, making a new one and trying to restore the old one, it doesn’t work to get two DKs on a realm.

But now the post is meaningless. It is no news that you can make ONE DK without having a level 55+ Only no. 2 upwards requires a level 55+ on the realm.
It was the delete-a-DK and being unable to make one that was the news here.

Edit
And I’m going to test this out now: Make a DK, delete and see what happens. I am not going to play one anyway, and if I did I do have level 55+ on the realms I intend to play on

TESTING

  • I can make a DK, delete him and make a new one when he was not played. No probs.

Now testing playing, deleting and recreating / reatoring.

  • Creating, playing, deleting and making a new DK no probs either. This seems to be a misunderstanding of some sorts.

Now testing: Undeleting?

  • I can only undelete the played one.

Now testing: Undelete if two played?
'- I can choose to undelete one of the two I played (only see intro, accept Q = played)

End of testing.

The point is, Vanillataur, you can create your first DK anywhere (new realm) and possibly as your very first character, but not afterwards.

The catch about this thread is, readers will likely be seeing it late anyway.

Would be a bit smarter if it didn’t behave like an account flag, spent on creating first DK, but a dynamic check, do you have a DK already, or the nicer one, do you have a DK without another 55+ character already (which can interfere with the intent).

I also created my DK on my main realm (to save the name), and now I couldn’t create one on a different realm even if I deleted. I don’t mind, I don’t plan to expand.

I guess the point is not to invade new realms with high level (like boosted) characters.

I do not really understand what you say. Sorry. I think I tried every possible combo of deleting/restoring DK’s with the outcome that I still could have a ‘free’ one.

You can as always have one DK per realm, and only one without a level 55+ The only new thing here is that last bit.

I can also after having deleted 4 DKs on one realm go to another realm and create a new one there.

I can also after deleting now 5 DKs go to a realm where I have no characters and make a DK.

Now I think I tested every possible combo.

What exactly is the problem?

NO. You can make a DK as your first character almost everywhere - but NOT on the new (fresh) realms - they were explicity not in the “you do not need a level 55+ exception”

Maybe I’m the one confused now, and the implementation is generous?

I see five test cases:

  • Brand new account, can create DK
  • Existing account, can create first DK on a new realm
  • Existing account, create DK on main realm, delete, still can create DK on a new realm
  • Existing account, create DK on main realm, still can create DK on a new realm
  • Existing account, create DK on new realm, delete, still can create DK on a new realm

New realm = one without characters, not fresh.

Yes, you can do all of this.
What is the problem?

Nothing maybe
We might be talking about slightly different things, I’m in the context of the OP that warns people not to waste their first DK. If you are correct, it cannot be wasted (because it’s a dynamic check).

According to all my testing it cannot be wasted. And I think I tested every possible combination now

So yes, no problems.
