Little bit of background - I havent played WoW in a few years, not properly since WotLK, been thinking about getting back online for a year or 2, and then -social isolation happened so bit the bullet a got a gaming PC.
I know this community has always been great, so thought ide put a few of my questions here.
Firstly my brother is still playing but he re rolled Alliance on a different server. my highest char is LvL 86, a bit of old raid gear for BC/WotLK and about 6k gold which probably isn’t worth talking about these days.
i wanted to know if its worth spending the money to char transfer to Ally + server change or is it quicker to level?
i’m sure i heard that levelling was a lot quicker than it used to be.
Secondly;
Do many people still run old raids, from Cata, MoP etc? as i would like to experience as much content as i can that I’ve missed over the years, before the new expansion!
Any other advice for a returning player would be highly welcome!
P.S I have 6 days booked off as my holiday has been cancelled due to corona
Welcome back! Leveling now sure is a lot faster than it used to be, especially now that we have the Corona buff (or whatever it is called) which gives you 100% exp boost. Add that 20% boost from alliance Warmode + 10% hourly buff from Darkmoon Faire, plus any heirloom buffs and you’ll be max level in no time.
I created a paladin few nights ago and after couple of ours, he was on level 48 (from level 1). If you don’t mind playing a Death Knight, those are fast to level too. Las night made myself a Tauren DK to play one last time the original DK starting area and I was at level 64 when I finished it.
When you get a character to level 70, you can create Demon Hunter on that server and they start at level 98
There’s a new system called Timewalking, in which people get scaled down to the proper level of the past expansion and can run content. Not all content is available and the only raid of the mentioned expansions is Firelands. Since you have a level 86 character, you can join as well. Starting this Wednesday, the Cataclysm Firelands will be active for a week.
You can join on your priest if you like, we’re going on Tuesday

If you watch videos it’s cool, otherwise, since probably not everyone is going to bother watching videos, I’ll explain tactics before the bosses in voice anyways.
it’s basically used the same way as IRC/guild websites and Teamspeak were used back then it’s a closed text + voice chat and we use it for both raid-voice and sign-ups. It’s a bit much to get used to (I was overwhelmed when I first installed it) but then I kinda grew addicted to it because there’s communities for everything on there. Most guilds use it nowadays
