A Sapling of Lore has appeared on the outskirts of Astranaar. Rumour has it they would enjoy hearing the many stories the local night elves might have, aiding the sapling to eventually grow into a wise Ancient of Lore. An evening has been decided on during which the night elves would gather to share tales not only with their friendly guest, but with one another as well.

People are welcome to bring food and drinks to share.

OOC Details:

Resurrecting this event from 2016!

The purpose of the event is to help people roleplaying night elf characters connect with each other. Aimed at characters affiliated with the kaldorei society, the event is an opportunity for night elf themed guilds to draw interest toward their activity, and for individuals to show what their character is all about!

There’s no requirement to sign up in advance. The stories could be based on close or distant lore events such as the War of the Shifting Sands, guild events, or your character’s personal adventures. The tale may also be presented in the form of song or poem.

If you’d like to share something, it’s recommended to prepare the story ahead of time, and split it for presenting at a comfortable pace In Character. A single story should take no longer than 20 minutes to present , and may be just a few minutes short as well.

People are also free to come just listen without obligation to share a tale of their own. The Listener AddOn might help people keep track of the stories.

Date: 22th September 2023
Time: 20:00

To be adolescent and ancient at the same time was as natural to Uka as the warm earth around his roots. Hazel and bushy brows rustling, Uka unveiled his eyes for the first time in a while.

The purple blooms speckled the Grove of the Ancients as they always had. The abundant foliage above was illuminated by moonlight, and stirred by the wind, loose leaves tumbled into a swirl in the misty night air.

How long had he slumbered recovering from the Fourth War? Looking down, the blades of grass were further away than when he last saw them. Dragging his Wisp-like gaze to the left, he studied his mossy arm which, previously cut off by an orc’s axe, had not only regrown, but also enlarged.

The fertile soil had nurtured him from a sapling into a young tree. Stiffly twisting his trunk, Uka beheld his brethren standing guard around the Grove. Compared to the towering Circle of the Ancients, he appeared still a seedling. Perhaps he should assume the role of a sapling just a little longer, even if he felt as aged as the gnarly faces of the surrounding trees.

Like most Ancients, Uka had grown from a rare, magical acorn that held all the knowledge of its tree, and all the knowledge of the tree’s ancestors. That way, Uka was well acquainted with his home forest since its beginning.

An inexplicable sensation of whispers and emotions permeated Uka’s mind, coursing up his bark like a rumbling emanation of the land itself. Though the other trees surrounding the Grove gave the impression of being frozen in time, he felt a deep connection to each one of them.

It would’ve been delightful to continue growing here, but a shared wisdom beckoned Uka to leave. He was now strong enough to serve nature, and help the younger races in discovering its secrets. But first, it would be sensible to get to know the children of the forest who his kin was fated to guide.

Uka’s roots retreated to the surface and formed broad, clawed feet. Bending his head to Onu, Uka moved away from the Grove to start his trek into Ashenvale to meet the night elves.

Haven’t been writing for a while and when I finally do, it’s about trying to figure what it’s like being a young-but-old tree :deciduous_tree:

This happens next week - still plenty of time to cook a little story for it!

Some people have already seen our young ancient wandering about in Ashenvale, looking forward to this gathering. :deciduous_tree:

A few more days to go! Looking forward to seeing new and old characters that are affiliated with the night elf society.

I’ll probably be online as Ticko for the event, but will let people know if I end up using another character for it. A gnome just works alright for portraying a kaldorei child on the Ancient’s back without drawing too much attention.

This happens tonight!

Since I haven’t been much around on Acrona lately, I’ll multibox on Ancienttree (“Uka”) and Acrona. See you there!

Thanks everyone who came! The turnout was amazing, and there were a lot of people eager to share stories! So many in fact that not everyone had a chance to tell theirs, so we’ll do this again in a month or two!

12 stories were shared. Kudos to Ymothir who turned up as another Ancient, and to Nhallia who came as a dryad! Really added to the night elven atmosphere.

Uka and his elder, Ymothir

Aymeric of Eldre’thalas told a cutting story about his naga hunting.

The lovely dryad Nhallia darted merrily around the gathering.

Aesrillion Thorndew of the Moonspear Sentinels shared a dream he believed to be a vision granted by Elune.

Tekkton rhymed playfully about the Everbloom Wilds in Draenor.

Eledorn Duskborn shared tale of a man turned mad by his obsessive love for the stars.

Ivan shared a story about the Dirge of Teldrassil having a scorching adventure in the Badlands.

Elanrya’s story was rife with nightmarish plague.

Alladar Ravenblack spoke of his granddaughter and how she overcame her bullies in childhood.

Thandreth Gladewalker seemed to long for his days as a simple fisherman, and grieved how war changed everything for him and his family.

Zithis the druid shared shared how her small spider friend had protected a food supply from being spoiled by cockroaches, the story said to have been delivered by the proud spider Drathess herself.

Satheric’s tale illustrated Galhara, an ancient night elf city lost eons ago.

Thronhindel weaved an epic portrayal of the night elven dragonriders of old, and of sacrifice in the name of the Goddess.

Vea’s story about the strong bond between her and her nightsaber provided an endearing finish to the story time.

After the stories, many people lingered to mingle.

See you next time!

The pictures look really great and it seems like everyone had a grand time!

Probably the Reflecting Prism item and then some item/toy that turns you into a Dryad, or a Rogue using the Glyph of Disguise when pickpocketing a Dryad and then Reflecting Prism off of it.

(no idea if those things still exist in DF, Reflecting Prism should still at least)

Thank you everyone who came! Was wonderful to see so many take part, and the diversity of stories was great. Special kudos to the fellow ancient Ymothir being there again! :deciduous_tree:

Kyniras Shadowleaf of the Dirge of Teldrassil shared a story about her journey through the Hellfire desert in Outland, a dangerous trial that led the former priestess of the Moon into becoming a demon hunter.

Yloren Oakenmight spoke of the wondrous Emerald Dream, rousing people to stand in its defense.

Tarellia’s poetry was orchestrated by her beautiful lyre, conjuring a gloomy melody as she sung the story of Shen’shallas; that which is hidden in the shadows.

Cristana’s tale was about the spirit of Elyssia, a wisp that had lost herself to grief.

Joceran weaved brief words of deep comradeship.

Nim’iryndiel Dreamscythe of the Cenarion Circle painted a vivid scene from Winterspring, of a predator and prey defying the laws of nature, choosing harmony over enmity.

Ashenyaa “Dirge” of the Moonspear Sentinels implored people to ponder upon an old fable, of an anarchid community that sought safety within the hollows of a rotting tree.

Syanae Sagestar was proud to tell about her young days predating the Sundering.

Shal’s tongue was as sharp as her blade as she narrated a bloodbath involving orcs whom she evidently bore a deep hatred for.

Thank you all who shared your stories, and see you next time!
