Originally arms dealers, Blackstone Industries had branched out at the start of the fourth war with the discovery of Azerite. Dangerous work calls for bodies and swords. In a roundabout way, they ended up hiring many — but it brought no loyalty. Deals were struck and loans were given to those down on their luck, seemingly for free. However, when the company had vacancies, they would be brought in to join, willingly or not.
Owned by an elite Dark Iron merchant family (with good connections to many other Dark Iron crime syndicates), the company had branched out into many other industries during the fourth war. As their power grew, the company had also made many enemies as well as contacts. A subsidiary, the Blackstone Bruisers, was created to keep these potential threats in check.
The Massacre at Molten Cay
During the start of the Fourth War, many fleets were sent around the nations of Zandalar and Kul Tiras to spy for and gather the rapidly appearing material known as Azerite. Many islands harbouring the material were discovered and aptly plundered, with many factions, including the armies of both Alliance and Horde, harvesting as much Azerite as possible for their gain. One of the first discovered was a tropic island named Molten Cay.
The Blackstone Bruisers were sent to investigate the island for any geysers or crags of Azerite found. Sadly, however, during their incursion, a volcanic eruption blasted the island in a sea of lava. Many melted in the aftermath, scorched by the molten rock. Only a few managed to get out, and even less unscathed.
In the wake of the Second War, the once iron-clad Horde bastion became a hamlet for scoundrels, deserters, and buccaneers. This blossoming tradewind brought with it an array of prosperous opportunities for the seafaring folk who came to call this island home. However, come the Fourth War, the wondrous and volatile resource known as Azerite started to spew from the once blood-soaked shores of the once war-torn island, fostering countless mutinies and betrayals amidst the many crews and gangs that nestled within the ruins of Crestfall. Soon enough, the mercantile marvels of the Blackstone company learned of the riches that dwelled along these shores, an opportunity that resulted in an expedition. Unfortunately, the globe-trotting bruisers of the Blackstone weren't the only opportunists who had caught the stench of prosperity — a 42-cannoned three-master with blood crimson colours hoisted atop blackened masts, which brought a swift and sudden end to the Blackstone’s aspirations upon these once war-ravaged shores of Crestfall.
Times had grown tough for arms dealers with the end of the Fourth War. Sales had plummeted. Huge stockpiles of weapons were left unguarded due to labour shortages. Pirates were quick to seize expensive goods and use them against their very proprietors. The arms crisis became so bad that using ammunition for fun became profitable. In the wake of peace, the underworld became a bloodbath.
Much like many other dealers, business crumbled beneath the Blackstone’s usually auspicious feet. A recession. One that saw the Blackstones assets liquify like hot butter. In a bid to recover some of the suddenly lost wealth, the Blackstone arranged a meeting in a huge Boralus dock-house - Dinghy Hold. There, all of the representatives of their clients gathered. For hours, a cacophony of debate echoed out of the hold. Angry words penetrating the wooden walls suddenly morphed into gunfire. It took seconds to end what was almost an entire day of discussion.

Interesting characters, a solid concept, and an entertaining recruitment idea that allows character building and character unique reasoning? Who wouldn’t sign up for this?
So that’s why all the events are so fun and unique?! Now it all makes sense! Can’t wait to see what’s up the sleeve of this award-winning (not really) DM!
