Overview
Footman is a military roleplaying guild originally founded in May 2015. Its core focus is the portrayal of a company of Stormwind footmen authentic relative to the current lore of the kingdom and the Stormwind Army. Unique amongst military guilds for its focus on an ensemble cast, dark atmosphere, incorporation of regular character death and ever-changing roster of characters, Footman has been a familiar face within Alliance roleplay for close to five years.
Roleplay Style
With its return to the game, this sixth company of Footman - Farshire Company, 1st Battalion, 2nd (Northshire) Regiment of Foot - focuses particularly on stripping back many of the modern influences prevalent in human military roleplay. Considering the Stormwind Army to be in a state of demobilisation following the conclusion of the Fourth War, many of the tactics and procedures required by full conventional warfare with the Horde are no longer necessary. As such, F Company takes more of a medieval approach to soldiering, with more focus on the use of weapons, armour, and individual combat skill than previous companies.
Also new to Footman is its style of roleplay. With the war officially over and peace reigning between the Alliance and Horde, the role of the battalion has changed significantly from front line combat and tours of duty involving total war to what we term ‘edge of empire’ roleplay - that is to say the maintenance and defence of the Alliance’s forgotten colonies at the very periphery of its control. Much of the company’s time is spent desperately attempting to prevent the collapse of distant outposts, painting the guild’s roleplay with a far more isolated and entropic brush.
Community
Above all, Footman is and has been a community since day one. In particular, all former members of the guild are warmly invited to return to its main Discord server hub as honoured veterans, and all curious roleplayers are invited to join as well to keep tabs on what the company is up to. Although the cast of characters in the main body of the guild is new, several characters from previous companies make regular appearances to create a sense of continuity from one iteration of Footman to the next.
