[A-RP] In Defence of Duskwood

Under the cover of the night, a squad of around six men moved towards the ravine on the edge between Stranglethorn Vale and Duskwood. While noble and women of the Alliance stood against the Stygian Legion, the aforementioned squad was busy setting up and rigging explosives placed at the crossing bridge’s foundations. Soon, the Alliance force moved back and with a single push of a button the entire bridge was engulfed in flames, leaving the Horde with no crossing for the night and stopping their advance, potentially also leaving a couple of stragglers on the other side unfortunately.
Where once stood the bridge, there are but ruins consisting of wooden planks, as it was blown up following a number of skirmishes between the Horde and Alliance.

A follow-up message is posted near Darkshire’s town hall.

Men and women of the Alliance,
In the light of Horde’s aggression and intervention into Darkshire, also known as the Grand Hamlet, it was decided that the bridge between Stranglethorn and Duskwood would be blown up to avoid further damage on part of the vile Horde. It is also suggested that anyone in the southern parts of the woods stays vigilant on the look out for any hostiles and should they be noticed the appropriate men should be alerted.
King’s Honor,

[In the dark of the night, a plaguebat crosses into the dark woods and rains a number of pamphlets down across the roads]

The Alliance - a collective known for their depravity and profligate ways - has once again shocked the INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY through their scheming attempts to invade and conquer a humble grove, tended to by the Cenarion Circle and until now far removed from the horrors of the Blood War.

Of course, at the root of this latest act of slovenly imperialism we see the same rabble of corrupt bureaucrats and opportunists - the same shadowy figure pushing propaganda that would have the common peasant raise his torch in fury at an innocent commune of druids.

The Stygian Legion - the indefatigable vanguard of the Horde and renown defenders of neutral entities operating in the Alliance’s lands - have landed in the area and will now punish the Alliance for their treachery. Already, the province of Duskwood struggles under the weight of troll attacks without any proper assistance from the boy-king Anduin Wrynn, who would rather spend the poorfolk’s taxes on statues of his dead father as his citizenry are sacrificed in profane rites by the Hand of Zul. Now, the situation is surely untenable - with Horde BOOTS already tramping across Darkshire’s roads.

To our brothers in the Cenarion Circle - we are with you, and we shall see you protected from the yoke of the Alliance brigands. To those still loyal to the Alliance, I suggest you flee.

High Executor Phillip Perroy
Commanding Officer

News of Horde propaganda spreading like wildfire in the southern shires made receipt at Northshire Regiment, 1st Battalion Staff Office 2 mere hours after the last pass of the damned plaguebat. A courier of the Royal Army Postal Corps shocked Elwynn locals with her furious gallop to Darkshire at stops along the Lakeshire road through the wee hours, culminating in her march to the threshold of the Scarlet Raven, nailing up the following before disappearing into the night:

Beloved citizens of Darkshire,

Your borders are made safe by the continued efforts of your Royal Army, whose embattled perseverence in the face of mounting disadvantage does credit to you stout and loyal citizens of His Majesty Anduin I Wrynn.

Your town, much like our great capital city, has long since stood as a symbol of humanity’s aptitude for adaptation in the most grievous of circumstances; where other kingdoms of our noble race have fallen to the fel brothers War and Strife, we have risen from the ashes to rebuild. So does the history of Darkshire blaze bright as the phoenix in what was Brightwood; remember your forbears and their stolid unwillingness to accept defeat in the face of terror and in so doing reject the doubt and fear sown amongst your kith and kin.

Companies of His Majesty’s infantry draw steel night and day to prevent incursion into your homes, the abduction of your families, the theft and damage of your property, and the surrender of order to anarchy. Cower no more! Your King has not forgotten you, and his armies sing with pride at their privilege to defend your homes and livelihoods. Honour their sacrifices and the sacrifices of the thousands before them with your loyalty, your tenacity and the quiet strength of character so inherent to those fortunate enough to call Duskwood their home.

May fortune follow you and the Light bless your path,

Lieutenant Colonel John Byrke
Officer Commanding
1st Battalion, 2nd (Northshire) Regiment of Foot

The Incursion

The Horde pushed forth into the gloom-filled woods, fuelled by hatred and corruption, their countless ranks thwarted any glimmers of resistance, the rotting corpses of men lay testament to the war-path beset by the merciless fiends. Humanity’s resistance had scattered into the rushes, the overgrown wilds serving as sufficient cover whilst the dwindled and demoralised forces regrouped and awaited their next advance.

Word soon spread of Darkshires’ breach, the remnants of the Alliance forces lay trapped amidst the crumbling Beggar’s Haunt, an aging and withered Tower that shook when the wind blew softly. Captain Albrecht von Asch had sent riders northbound to the City of Stormwind to gather reinforcements whilst he formulated the response to the Horde incursion. Hope was not lost, faith and pride embodied all present, for they all knew the fog of darkness was soon to be lifted…

Nathanos said that the Horde had little time to help us neutrals, but I’m glad the PCU take time out

The following report was forwarded to Stormwind Keep and the SI:7.

To all affected parties within the hierarchy of the Alliance Military,

With the destruction of the Horde’s raiding parties and subsequent triumph at Stonard, I have concluded that the most immediate threat to our Kingdom has retreated back to Kalimdor.

Our more observant soldiers reported that the Forsaken, the infamous Rotgarde, had abducted regular twonsfolk and villagers from Westfall and Duskwood, an act that I am certain will not go unpunished.

However, myself and a comrade in arms, Vulin Snowforge, took it upon ourselves to observe whether the reviled druids of the Twilight Grove kept true to their words. Much to our disbelief have they not bothered to keep the Horde away. We even came across Nightborne trespassers exitting the Grove, surveying the woods outside as if they were scouting ahead, then returning to the Grove’s safety.

I made the humble mistake of trying to strike down the insurgent, which was followed by the shrieking and bellowing of the apparently cultured masses of this rogue element of the Cenarion Circle. They assaulted both myself and Sir Snowforge in a vile effort to silence us and before we could bring our observations back to Darkshire. Luckily we made it back alive.

The locals in Darkshire were polarized regarding the matter, with the local nobility seemingly more keen to let assaults on Alliance officials go unpunished and in favor of welcoming heathens who, beforehand, played host to Zandalari cultists who kidnapped and sacrificed local villagers, and now lash out at anyone who dares attack Horde spies that frolick outside the Grove.

Whoever reads this report, whether you are a lowly footman or a commanding officer, be aware that Duskwood and the misguided militias present within Darkshire are determined to remain hostile to any patriot of the Grand Alliance. This festering wound must be cleansed and purged before it spreads beyond the borders of those woods and infect Lakeshire, Goldshire and beyond.

Should any fellow soldier of the Alliance wish to converse regarding our experience I will be available at late night, stationed with the revered crew of the Heart of Oak.

Stay vigilant. For the Alliance.
Grand Marshal Dargeus Wal of the Third Legion

Turmoil, Turbulence, treachery… The Living are so hot-blooded, hmm?

Santern has played enough Grand Marshals to make up the entire Alliance high command
