[A-RP] Northgate Rangers - Glory to Gilneas!

The 1st Light Company of Foot - the “Northgate Rangers”

A Gilnean Military Roleplaying Guild

Introductions

Salutations! The Northgate Rangers is a newly established roleplaying guild set in the harsh, rainswept and freshly reclaimed Kingdom of Gilneas. We are inviting all interested parties to seek us out should they wish to enlist in the armed forces of Gilneas and participate in a growing community set in an immersive roleplaying experience centered around the lives of a troop of Gilnean soldiers in the aftermath of the reclamation of Gilneas.

Information

The Northgate Rangers is a light infantry unit tasked with protecting the borders of Gilneas, performing reconnaissance missions beyond those borders and conducting precision strikes and clandestine operations against those who would dare to threaten the Kingdom of Gilneas or the Alliance.

To that end, fresh recruits of the 1st Light Company of Foot undergo harsh exercises in the muddy, soaked terrain of northern Gilneas, to hone and sharpen their capabilities in the field. Perhaps more importantly is the focus on teamwork, camaraderie and survivability, where each soldier is tested in foraging, encampment maintenance and hunting.

When recruits undergo their final test to become fully-fledged watchmen of the 1st, they pledge themselves to the Kingdom of Gilneas, its queen and the commander of the Northgate Rangers and take the first path to become true Rangers, where many accolades, trophies and responsibilities await.

How to enlist

The Northgate Rangers are permanently headquartered at Rutsak’s Guard, an abandoned cottage at the south-eastern end of the Northgate Woods. Here they have raised an encampment not far from the gates of the Greymane Wall. It is as simple as showing up in-character if we’re around, or arranging a meeting beforehand (see contacts below!)

Our goals

We aspire to portray a uniformed element of the Gilneas Military, though detached from the wider structure to perform our charge as the watchmen of the Kingdom’s borders. We strive to keep things grounded in the lore of Gilneas and the fantasy of World of Warcraft, even if we mostly portray relatively low-power characters.

To round off, we’re always looking for other Alliance guilds to interact with, military or otherwise, and Horde guilds to fight! Old grudges die hard and the Northgate Rangers are perfectly suited and encouraged to offer battle in ‘uneventful’ skirmishes and ‘unheard’ engagements!

If your goals align with ours and the Northgate Rangers sounds like a roleplaying guild you’d like to participate in, find us in-game or via Discord by adding JPB101 or nickolai_71. Any member of the guild can point you in the right direction too!

For Gilneas!

Pamphlets can be found all over Gilneas, from the quiet fishing village of Keel Harbour to the windy hills of Tempest’s Reach and everywhere inbetween. Some may even find their way to the nearest Alliance settlements in the Arathi Highlands. The contents read as following…

ATTENTION! ATTENTION! ATTENTION!

Gilneas has prevailed! Her sacred lands have been retaken by the armies of Gilneas and the Alliance, though our borders are no safer than they were when the Greymane Wall first came down! The charge of protecting our homeland now falls to you!

All able-bodied men and women now finding themselves without purpose must make their way to RUTSAK’S GUARD, an outpost in the eastern end of the Northgate Woods. There they shall find the newly-constituted ‘1st Light Company of Foot’, henceforth commonly known as the ‘Northgate Rangers’, under the command of Lord William Fitzarden.

Additional information, equipment, weapons and supplies will be made available to those who enlist. Do your duty, do your part. Join the Northgate Rangers.

Glory to Gilneas!

Echoing the OP a little…

The Northgate Rangers has officially entered into the employ of the Crown in Gilneas, now headquartered at Rutsak’s Guard in the Northgate Woods. We have already conducted our first patrol to bring down a grotesquely large wolf that had wandered in from Silverpine to the north. The beast was destroyed in the southern Headlands after a prolonged hunt…

With a batch of fresh recruits already gathered, the 1st Light Company now embarks on a series of training modules to hone swordsmanship, riflery and patrol skills, while contending with an encampment in shambles, few supplies and limited funding.

You should get involved, you MUST get involved…

A delight to see another group embark from the glorious Kingdom of Gilneas!

I hope for you to serve a good purpose, and experience the adventures you deserve, with as little hostile interaction if possible. Of course, you are welcome to bring back items of profit. We can always strike a deal.

See you about!

Had these meddling Alliance worms trespassing on our back yard last night, culminating in a grisly skirmish at Lordamere Lake. They make the worst neighbours.

The 1st Light Company of Foot is hunting an Ettin in the southern moors of Gilneas after recovering from the Battle of the Burning Cottage with elements of the Forsaken military.

‘Wisdom’ decided the Northgate Rangers were to establish a forward camp near the hills west of Stormglen Village and, after fording the nearby marshes and uncovering an upturned coach full of feasting crocolisks, they did just that. Upon finding suitable ground level enough to raise a temporary encampment, the rangers came under attack from above. Treetrunks and boulders rained in like artillery, sending the lot scattering back into the marshes. The Ettin’s welcome proved a little too overwhelming.

We have now re-evaluated the wisdom mentioned before and wisely rebuilt our camp further away, overlooking the western approaches to Stormglen Village and the marshlands between us and what can only be the Ettin’s abode in the hills.

All this and more is upon us before we sail for Boralus to check out the Tournament of the Tides next week. Rutsak’s Guard may prove a little abandoned for a few days, but the Northgate Rangers will be back to defend Gilneas soon enough.

Would you like to clandestinely hunt down the Forsaken? Do you fight for Gilneas and the Alliance? Enlist with us and become the nation’s first line of defense (offense) against those who would see a reborn Gilneas fall!

Despite a few grumblings and few accusatory remarks , The Rangers now find themselves at the mercy of the finest hospitality Grizzly Hills can offer, The Westfall Brigade encampment,

thanks to the actions of one the Company will now have to endure their wilderness survival training in distant lands but in a much colder one. to trade Gilnean rains for Northrend chills is not a decision many in the company would have willingly made but alas it is a fitting punishment for the crime committed.

Want to become a ranger and see the world or do you want to defend Gilneas from threats both near and far and fulfill your patriotic duty? Come and Enlist with us and be forged into the finest Ranger Gilneas has ever seen!

After quietly returning to Gilneas, the 1st Light Company of Foot has spent its time fortifying Rutsak’s Guard in the Northgate Woods - a poor distraction from the departure of a well-liked recruit. Wounded in battle in Northrend, Reginald Hilde left for Stormwind to receive extensive medical treatment.

More recently the defenders of Gilneas have been tasked with observationary missions in the interior of the Lordaeron subcontinent, lastly commanded to station at Gallow’s Corner to, officially, watch over the roads through the Alterac Mountains and ensure the safety of Alliance traders and pilgrims. Needless to say, the Forsaken at Tarren Mill had a thing or two to say about that…

Only an hour after the Rangers reached the old guard tower did the Forsaken follow them into the muddy hills, where Gallow’s Corner became a blast from the past - Alliance loyalists against Forsaken warmongerers! Challenges were issued, and while the honourable and peaceful Gilneans offered the Forsaken a stay of execution, Lieutenant Sixtus and his Irregulars of Tarren Mill struck first.

The skirmish was short and brutal, and the Rangers lost their Watchmaster, Erich Askier, who prefered to be called the ‘Easterling’, claiming he’d die on that hill. Which he did. The Rangers then sounded the withdrawal back to Gilneas, sent running by their Forsaken rivals.

Rumours now circulate that the 1st Light Company of Foot is being folded into the Gilneas Brigade, for intentions and missions yet unknown. With such staggering losses, the sons of Gilneas whisper personal oaths of vengeance…

Huge shoutout to Sixtus and his Corpsegrin Irregulars for some cool RP-PvP the other night!

Firzarden forgot his pistol at Gallow’s Corner after throwing it at Sixtus’ head. We are currently using it as a doorstop, but don’t worry, we are going to return it. It’s the neighbourly thing to do.

Thanks for another great skirmish, you guys are the best.

Hey, I’m Sergeant first name pending Withers, the “Easterling”'s replacement, updating our loyal readers, followers and possible recruits (dm me ) with an update on our operations.

The company, after licking its wounds so graciously provided by the Forsaken, has come to the south in pursuit of a Gilneas Brigade deserter (and to pick me up). They have spent the last few days combing the dark glades of Duskwood, meeting (read upsetting) some locals and slowly painting a picture of where the cowardly soldier has gone.

Recruiting the assistance of the local Night Watch and some Night Elves dwelling in Twilight Grove, the company eventually stumbled into the deserter in Darkshire, chasing him into a rainstorm sweeping through the woodlands. He escaped…

Last night Lance-Corporal Whitley lead a patrol into the western hills of Duskwood, where a deafening scream drew the company’s attention. As it turns out, the scream came from the very same deserter lost in the rain, being assailed by shadow-wielding Nerubians in his own little camp. The servants of an unknown spider kingdom stole away with the deserter for an unknown fate, before two of their kind were destroyed.

With their mission… accomplished? the Gilneans return to Stormwind for rest and refit before eventually return-returning to Gilneas. While they are there, an investigation into the encountered Nerubians, their origins and the connections to the wider troubles plaguing Azeroth, has begun.

The War Within is approaching fast and that means fresh and epic new Warcraft content, something a lot of us will be enjoying to the fullest. When the initial rush has worn off a little, the brave defenders of Gilneas will find themselves also involved in the newly-discovered lands… Stay tuned or get involved?

Glory to Gilneas!

Whilst we love Gilneas and I loved these characters - The Arathi temptation is too strong and we’re all hopefully in our forever home of Lamplighter!

Thank you to all who made the Northgate experience so great! Especially Corpsegrin and Grimtusk who caused a lot of damage and killed a lot of worgens!
