[A-RP] Stormwind Royal Navy ⚓ is recruiting!

This thread is closed unfortunately, but the guild is not! We have a new thread on the forum!

A lonesome individual strolled through the darkened streets of Stormwind. His wide legged stance and determined rolling gait hinted unmistakably to his adaptation to life at sea. He halted as he wandered onto the pier leading to the docked warship, an expression of merry determination upon his face.

Corruption within the Admiralty, pirates roaming freely while uniting themselves under one banner, as if they were running some professional corporation instead of defying all that honourable, loyal and lawful men stood for.

A hazy cloud of smoke ascended from the cigar between his lips as he approached his ship. Sedately lying docked within the Stormwind harbour, her hull creaked as she bumped into her connection with the docks. Small whitecaps crashing into her while the strong northernly gale caressed her rigging.

HMS Reprisal. Quite the fitting name. For together they would avenge every single death brought upon them by the vile creatures that sailed under the Black. They would commandeer every stolen ship and reclaim even the last copper coin stolen from the Royal treasury. Under his command, the hemp of the gallows would be strained under the weight of debauchery.

The Captain, his Lady and his crew. Against all enemies. Against all odds.

The Kingdom of Stormwind is a nation flanked by the Great Sea. The only capital city with an open waterfront and containing a harbor within the city boundaries. As a consequence, the sea has always been a vital factor in Stormwind’s history. The Sea has been the Nation’s means of people arriving from overseas, a barrier to invaders and a highway for trade. The basis for the greatest Nation of all.

The Stormwind Royal Navy has no defined moment of formation. It started out as a diverse assortment of his Majesties ships during the Troll Wars, assembled only when needed and then dispersed. During the following years the Navy began to take shape as a regular establishment. The Navy grew considerably during the years preceding the Second War, a time when the practice of fighting under sail was developed to its highest point.

Captain Fernando Aldazhar is now calling forth all able bodied sailors to step forward and embark on one of his Majesties great vessels to Defend Stormwind’s coastal waters, to Deter enemy activity and to Defeat her enemies.

The mission of the Stormwind Royal Navy
To defend the coastal waters of the Kingdom against enemy raids and pirate activity, to allow the undisturbed passage and activity of friendly ships. Whether they be merchant, foreign navy or fishermen.

To deter enemy activity within our waters; to prevent or discourage their coming by our intimidating presence, during which we exercise our might.

To defeat our enemies by boarding enemy vessels during combat or capturing prize ships and providing manpower for raiding ashore in support of the naval objectives. Our Royal marines will also contribute to the campaigns ashore, in support of any military objective. DEATH to the enemies of Stormwind!

Recruitment
All gentlemen desirous of rendering themselves useful to their country, let them board HMS Reprisal and be welcomed by Captain Fernando Aldazhar, by whom they will be received and every treatment given that their experience and value can entitle them to. During a try-out (consisting of an interview and possibly a variation of tests) shall be determined if you comply with the requirements of service.

Contact Captain Fernando Aldazhar, Lieutenant Harold Amshel, or Lieutenant Thalliya Bates onboard HMS Reprisal docked in the Stormwind harbour or at the Alliance Admiralty.

Eight reasons to join Stormwind Royal Navy onboard HMS Reprisal!

1. You get to live by the oceanfront

Walking tropical beaches with palmtrees in the sunset, build campfires on isolated stretches of sand surrounded by clearblue water, roasting fish and crab, endure the calm of lively whitecaps breaking into the hull, watch dolphins flash by from the forecastle. Despite the wet socks and sand getting into your every cavity, it is simply a blessing to live and work near the sea!

2: Homecoming on a pier, not barracks

Nothing beats a Navy homecoming where sailors line the railing of the ship and then descend onto the pier into the arms of their loved ones. This is a little less interesting in the pouring rain, or snow for that matter. Or the unfortunate storm that once pummeled all the balloons. But along with the subsequent chance to venture into either the nearest pub or pleasurehouse, there’s nothing better!

3: Fight pirates (and poultry)

Perhaps one of the best reasons to join the Navy is the opportunity to fight pirates! Even when meekly bowing to the consequences of the truce, we still fight enticing enemies. Whether out at sea with roaring broadsides or out on land with our rapiers and pistols drawn. There can be only one outcome!

4: Make new friends

While you travel and fight, you meet loads of people and make new friends. Ofcourse you’ll also make many enemies, but not without friends to back you up. We never shy away from the occasional (friendly) brawl in taverns far away. After a good meal and a pint, ofcourse. With the friends earlier mentioned.

5: Having a supportgroup

Spending weeks or months onboard a ship with a limited amount of space, no privacy whatsoever with the constant threat of death by drowning, enemy fire or squashing onto hard floorboards from high above, really brings people together. Your shipmates will become your family. However much you’ll wish to strangle them or string them up from the highest yard at times. We’ll always back eachother up when facing our enemies or when going through rough and miserable times!

6: The uniform

Not only do sailors develop miraculously good heroic looks when they don the spanky white version of their uniforms, but the fit is smooth and brings out the best in every man onboard! You may think white is not the ultimate choice when surrounded by wood and tar. But think of the seasalt stains that would be impossible to wash out on darker fabrics!

7: Freedom

We’ll sail wherever the wind takes us, or our orders for that matter! There’s always new scenery to behold! We do not have to march for days, carrying heavy equipment! Our provisions are stowed onboard and when not on watch, we spend our hours idling, drinking, carpenting or merely watching the “fishies”. Whatever happens onboard the Endurance stays onboard the Endurance. The same goes for those distant harbour towns, ofcourse!

8: Sailors have more fun

Trust us, we just do.

The Betrayal
Thalia leaned back in her chair and rubbed her eyes under the rectangle spectacles that offended her to her very core. But she had to admit, it was better than squinting and holding documents at arms length in front of the crew. She had an image to uphold, afterall. A slight tug of amusement showed at her mouth-corner as she envisioned poor sailor Rob’s stuttering and quivering when he’d bumped into her the other day.
Oh, she knew the whispers. The glares in dark corners. Men and boys alike, bonding in silence over the most recent privvy duty she’d assigned them.
Cruel. Impossible to please. Ten foot pole up her rear end. “Gods, imagine being married to that .”
She’d heard it all.

But it didn’t matter what they thought of her. At the end of the day, all that mattered was that they improved. Bonded. That they worked together, and became the best that they could be. Many of them would die along the way, but she would see to it that as many as possible of them made it through to the other side. That, was the most sacred of her duties. To serve and protect, not only the Crown, but the men and women who toiled under it.

Her train of thought was interrupted by a careful knock at her door.
“Enter.”
A skinny and spotted Midshipman cleared his throat as he stepped inside, and kept his gaze pinned on the hardwood floor.
“Light’s sake, boy, stand up straight, and speak up. What is it?”
“L-lieutenant B-bates, ma’am, uh… Sorry for intruding, ma’am it’s just… Uh…”
He fondled a stack of letters wrapped in string while it sounded as if he might choke on his own stutters.

“Midshipman Gregory, take a breath, if you please. What’s that you’ve got there?”
“Well, ma’am, it’s just… C-commodore Briarthorne w-wants you to send these off, ma’am. They just need the seal and all. It’s uh… The letters, ma’am. For the families, like?”

“Families? That’s a large stack of letters, Midshipman. What’s happened?”
“The Ellerian, ma’am. She was lost to pirates… The Victoria, they say she… She turned on them, ma’am.”

Time stood still, then. She’d wondered why in the world she was tasked with sending off the letters that didn’t concern her own ship and crew, but there it was. Her [husband’s ‘privateer’ daughter had been in charge of the escort. The HMS Victoria, or as she’d always known the accursed vessel; The Dreadnaught, had struck their true colours then. And the Commodore wanted her to know.

“Leave them on my desk there, Midshipman. Thank you.”
She finally found her voice again and motioned to an empty corner of her desk.
The boy of barely sixteen with hopelessly greasy hair and even greasier skin did as he was told, and set down all the letters; save for one.

“Gregory… Your older brother was on the Ellerian, wasn’t he? Third Lieutenant, I believe?”
The boy merely nodded.
“I’m sorry for your loss, Midshipman. Run along now, go find your mother.”
“I-I’ve got duties, ma’am.”
“Never you mind the duties, son. I’ll write your Captain to explain. Go.”

Her eyes ached after reading through each and every letter and then adding the Admiralty’s seal.
What would she tell Charles? Could she tell Charles?
“Thank you for supper darling, it was lovely. Oh by the way, your errant daughter helped slaughter an entire ship’s complement of Navymen. Among them my old friend Captain Fairwind.”
No. No, there was no way of saying this. Not after she’d served the girl mashed potatoes and roast dinner over Winter’s Veil in her own home.
But she couldn’t pretend it hadn’t happened either. There would be repercussions. Her own Captain, Aldazhar, would see to that; relentless as he was.

And all she could do was walk on, like a beast of burden, following the hand that guided the plough.
She couldn’t, wouldn’t , abide by this. She’d done her best to stay in the middle, for her career’s sake, and her family’s sake.

But the Harpy and her pirate ilk had to be brought to justice.
Family ties be damned.

HMS Reprisal ship’s log

Day of departure

  • Morning watch- six bells: upon embarking marines Highton and Cobbing informed captain Aldazhar about some strange items they found onboard, perhaps some prank, perhaps something more disturbing. Items consisted of bones, feathers and string. All items have been cast overboard.
  • Dog’s watch- four bells: received permission to depart Stormwind harbour at eight bells from the harbour master.
  • Dog’s watch- eight bells: All crewmembers accounted for.
  • First watch- one bell: ordered to make all and set sail on a course due south-west.
  • First watch- two bells: adjusted course to south by south-west.

Tuesday

  • Forenoon watch- eight bells: encountered severe storm, four seamen and one marine moderately injured, several minor casualties. Endured some minor damage to foretopyard and foretopyardsail.
  • Afternoon watch- four bells: several dead seagulls have been found onboard, some were gutted and had their entrails removed. All animals were cast into the sea.
  • Dog’s watch- eight bells: storm is somewhat diminishing. Able to make full sail.
  • First watch- four bells: adjusted to a southern course.

Wednesday

  • Morning watch - four bells: mister Gregory perished from an infection to his severed limb. Doctor was unable to halt the process.
  • Forenoon watch - five bells: adjusted course to south by southeast
  • Afternoon watch - four bells: adjusted course to south by southwest
  • First watch - one bell: two more dead seagulls were found onboard, one of them had been invaded by a large amount of spiders. Expect foul play. Strange carvings found underneath one of the tables in the mess hall. Meaning of said carvings unknown.
  • First watch - one bell: doubled the watch.
  • First watch- two bells: Mister Darkwood acted up due to a strange spell of paranoia, attacked both the surgeon’s mate mister Reckham as well as the captain. Disciplinary measures were taken. Mister Darkwood was subdued and confined to the brig.
  • First watch- two bells: some of the crew are acting oddly, there is a lot of whispering and sailors carving runes into the masts and hull. Some minor incidents have been swiftly dealt with. Mister Mooring and mister Tobler were confined to the brig.
  • First watch- three bells: a sudden lack of wind has left the ship in the doldrums.
  • First watch- three bells: the ship is surrounded by a thick white fog.
  • First watch- three bells: the white fog has turned black as ink, many of those onboard are hearing voices of children yelling, songs being sung and dangerous threats being made. Some of the crew have descended into panic and fright or an odd lack of motivation resulting in complete apathy.
  • First watch- three bells: suspicion of witchcraft onboard. Ordered the marines to search the entire ship for anything out of the ordinary.
  • First watch- four bells: crew has been infiltrated by a witch attached to (as we suspected) a Kul Tiras coven. Several crewmembers amongst which captain Aldazhar, mister Reckham suffered severe injuries, others suffered minor injuries. No casualties. Witch was killed and thrown overboard northwest of Booty Bay.
  • First watch- six bells: resumed on a course due south by south-east.
