[A-RP] The Myrmidon - Elune's Black Tithe

Wind beating against full sails on an otherwise still night, an ancient, dark deck and hull illuminated by brilliant moonlight as it splits calm waves. As swift as he is old, The Myrmidon, whose purpose has always been put to question, whose identity is always at the foremost thought of his devoted servants, surges on to unsuspecting prey.
But prey of what nature? What has brought this fate upon the hunted to now flee, in vain, from an inevitable, encroaching foe? Questions to be pondered later, through prayer and deep thought. And should souls be lost, ours or theirs, they too will be given peaceful, silent sermon when the glaives fall silent.
Pay heed to the sanctity of life, the somber seas that sustain our freedom, the sacred groves in our land-home of Kalimdor, for now we sail to take it all from another. They have been marked by Her unflinching gaze, and at Her behest, we will collect Elune’s Black Tithe.

The Myrmidon is a guild of nebulous identity, balancing a thin line of morality and purpose where privateering is blurred, more often so come recent times, into piracy. A ship from the days of the Kaldorei Empire, commissioned by the family Stormwing, he has served at the whim of his captain for over ten thousand years.

It is not all raiding, plunder and divine mandated killing however, in fact the average day of his crew is humble and uneventful. Heaving boxes filled with mundane silk and dried fish, selling wares from one exotic land to another far less exciting far more crowded.

Legally, The Myrmidon is a privateering vessel loyal to the Temple of Elune and acts in service of it and his less than savoury practices - whilst defensible - are kept under wraps and a closely guarded secret.

Historical heritage and devotion to kin has kept The Myrmidon as a ship crewed exclusively by Kaldorei, and worgen too in more modern times, and this persists even to this day. However, assistance is often accepted to a less official extent by other races provided they have talent. A paying passenger, should they seek ferrying, can pay for their stay with service as well as coin.

OOC:

RP ‘style’:

We’re back from a prolonged and comfortable period of obscurity to, hopefully, attract new interest and eagerly welcome some new people. We’ve always been a smaller guild, fairly tight knit and with a great focus on individualism. This has led to, or is rather the result of, a slower pace style of RP that puts an emphasis on creative writing and expression. We like to foster a culture of encouragement and self improvement in regards to RP and our attitude towards it; this cooperative effort is only made better by the heart which we all put into it.

There is no strict event schedule, it’s loose and subject to everyone’s availability; that said, my own preference is to DM once or twice a week, sometimes thrice if we’re cooking on gas, whereas casual RP is done wherever and whenever the guild wants to do it.

The style of DMing usually expected from The Myrmidon is slower than what I’d consider average as time is taken to respond and act upon every individual’s actions thoroughly. Events will sometimes be a part of a larger, player driven campaign, whereas most will be smaller scale “mini-campaigns” spanning different environments and themes.

Ranks:

Captain: The Myrmidon’s helm has traditionally belonged to Captain Saenon Stormwing’s lineage, passing from this ancient family one to another. Tragedy inevitably struck and the position was left without an obvious successor; following months of strife, the position was once again filled by Captain Markus Brunswick.

First Mate: Right hand to the captain, virtually all roles which the captain assumes, so does the First Mate. Discipline, cohesion, duty and direction are all theirs to instruct, especially so should the captain fall short in their own efforts. Held by First Mate Ernya Stillcrest.

Stormcaller: A rank aboard The Myrmidon that has, prior to initial intent, climbed its way unofficially up the ladder through the wisdom and seniority of its holder. A spiritual figure and druid who wields the sky, the Stormcaller fills the sails with beckoned winds, reads the stars and steers The Myrmidon onwards. Held by Sorrel Summerisle.

Quartermaster: A wizard in numbers, or at least that is how it seems to the less mathematically capable, charters and cheques; the Quartermaster is responsible for The Myrmidon’s accounting, inventory and other menial tasks which require far too much care to be done by those easily brought to boredom. The responsibilities are currently delegated between both Brunswick and Stillcrest.

Sworn: The nature of the sworn is shrouded in secrecy, their outward purpose seemingly being that of any serving soul whose time aboard has granted them seniority and recognition. Their pay and benefits, in material worth at least, are worth nothing more than the rank descending.

Privateer: Trader, pirate, privateer, all identities which The Myrmidon clings onto to varying degrees; regardless to those proportions, the professional, fully employed soul is referred to officially as privateer, and that is how the governments and bureaucracies of the world shall know them. They receive full pay and benefits for their work aboard and are expected to fulfil their responsibilities accordingly.

Wisp: The initiate, the yet to be trusted, new blood. The wisp’s contract is verbal and without legal implication; this way both The Myrmidon and the wisp can rest assured that should their relationship go south, there’s no contractual nonsense to work through. (Note: For the most part, this is not a recruitment rank, OOC you are equal to all your peers completely and utterly.)

Passenger: A rank for those who don’t wish for employment but rather simple passage or an adventure aboard The Myrmidon. This position, as implied above, has with it a cost based on the lodgings provided, yet this is payable as much in services as it is coin.

OOC Conduct:

The rules here are typical of any RP guild, as well as strictly obeying Blizzard’s ToS.

RP is an exchange of creativity, effort and imagination; years of heart and soul has been put into our time here and we ask that all reasonable efforts are made to respect our shared community.

Recruitment:

If you are interested in joining The Myrmidon, I’m very pleased and we’d love to hear from you! Recruitment takes place in three loose stages, firstly we discuss OOC about your interest, your character and whether or not we agree that The Myrmidon is where you’d want to be. For the second part, you’ll be invited to step aboard The Myrmidon (if necessary) and take part in an event DM’d especially for the process as soon as we can find the time to make it; this way you can also see if you like our event style before actually joining, this will be either one or two events. For the third part, we discuss as a guild, and if you and we are happy, welcome aboard!

The intention isn’t to be exclusive or to create a clique but rather sustain an environment where everyone is happy with the quality and persona of everyone else, including your satisfaction with us.

I’m all ears - not as much as you though (ha elf joke) - though with the fourth war to a close, we’re a little less murdery than most Night Elf scenes.

Unfortunately we don’t have any art that we can claim is our own, though there’s I believe a Moonguard US server which has some art around it that we draw inspiration from. It’s on the shopping list though.

Still remember the times with the Myrmidon fondly. If a character fits the very unique theme, I’d definitely check them out :sailboat::new_moon:
