[A-RP] The Wayfarer Association - Adventure with Friends

In Character

After the end of the Fourth War, and the Scourge’s invasion, the old ‘Wayfarers Bond’ found itself disbanded, leaving a small group of adventurers on their own. Rather than go back to their old lives, these adventurers decided to form a new group: The Wayfarer Association, a slightly more official adventuring group that would actively look for work, rather than only do it on occasion.

That was nearly a full year ago, and a lot has happened in that time. Having expanded their operations into Kul Tiras and Northern Kalimdor, as well as solidifying their reputation with the authorities in Stormwind and Ironforge, The Wayfarer Association have established themselves as an adventuring organisation. However, that doesn’t mean they’re on the same scale as some of the larger organisations; the last few contracts have taken their toll, and after a short hiatus, the Wayfarers are ready to start recruiting again, and start picking up larger contracts from The Alliance, as well as expand their operations into other areas of the world.

Officially, The Wayfarer Association are Alliance affiliated, but being adventurers, they’re given a degree of flexibility in the contracts they undergo. So long as the contract isn’t with the Horde military, or directly detrimental to The Alliance, a contract could be taken up with anyone!

Guild Premise

The Wayfarer Association is a general purpose adventure guild, with a focus on character progression, but revolving around taking out contracts and progressing the organisation as a whole. While before, the guild was just starting out and doing small-time contracts, there’s been enough progression in the guild’s storyline that they’ve become ‘established’ and can pick up more dangerous and daring quests. That doesn’t mean small contracts won’t be done, however, since every adventurer needs a ‘break’.

Another big focus for the guild is the bonds between characters. The Wayfarer Association is essentially a group of adventuring buddies that became official, so we’d like to keep that general idea, rather than becoming some sort of military or gritty mercenary group with defined ranks and uniforms.

Events

Events for The Wayfarer Association are generally standard adventure stuff, though the aim is to be a bit more than just regular combat events. So, maybe one week we’re fighting off kobolds, the next we’re bodyguards posing as wait staff for an officious noble that’s so sure of his importance that he’s insistent that someone’s out to kill him.

In terms of ‘theme’ or how dark events can get, we’d like to keep it at around PG-13, or at least only as dark as Blizzard tends to have Warcraft at. We don’t really want to get into super grim stories as a guild, though for personal stories done for individual characters, things can get grimmer, depending on what’s needed. As a guild, though, we’d like to keep things a little lighthearted if we can.

We don’t have a rolling system, and have no intention of making one. We have a rule that if you want to make a personal roll for yourself, that’s fine, but the DM will never ask you for a roll.

In terms of DMs, we have two, but will be expanding that to three in the new year, though making events isn’t limited to just those people. Anyone is free to make something, so long as it’s not too dark, and doesn’t require us to make character sheets.

OOC Ranks

As said before, there are no IC ranks in The Wayfarer Association, but there are OOC ranks.

Associate

This is the trial rank, which is just to make sure we like you and there aren’t any obvious problems. RP skills can be taught, so this is more just to see who you are and how you behave as a person. You’ll be in this rank until you’ve attended three RP events, and have been in the guild for at least a month.

For example, if you’ve been in the guild for over a month, but the guild is on a break over Christmas or something, you won’t advance until after the break is over and RP resumes. The same applies if there’s three events in a week, but you’ve only been in the guild for that week.

Wayfarer

This is the usual rank for most members of the guild. There’s not really much else to say about it.

Exemplar

This is a rank for those people that have shown themselves to be examples for others to follow in the guild. They’re usually friendly, they’ve run a couple of events for us, they’ve been helpful to the officers, they’ve written some stories in the discord. This rank isn’t necessarily about how long you’ve been in the guild, but the contribution you’ve made.

Officer

This rank is exactly what it says on the tin. Officers are expected to make and enforce the rules, as well as plan out the greater plots the guild goes through. They’re also expected to be the primary DMs of the guild.

Reward Systems

During the Wayfarers’ adventures, characters will obviously receive compensation for their efforts, though the emphasis will be on meaningful character interaction, coupled with personal rewards that tie in to the story in a way that gold can’t. That isn’t to say there won’t be a monetary reward, it’s just not emphasised as the reward.

Who we’re looking for

Given the general focus on the bonds between characters, we don’t have many strict rules on the types of character we’d take. While it wouldn’t make very interesting story if there was no character conflict at all, open physical conflict between characters isn’t tolerated, so it would be best if any character brought to the guild didn’t have any strong prejudices against particular races or creeds.

Recruitment

In Character, The Wayfarer Association has a mailbox. They’re officially registered in Stormwind, Ironforge, Kul Tiras and The Exodar, and they have a small office space in Boralus City, though they rarely visit the office.
