[A-RP] The Westfall Brigade - Duty and comradeship!

Next selection days for new applicants: First week of June

Lieutenant’s Journal

Long ago, our fertile grounds and seemingly infinte fields of crops used to feed them. Our mines made the economy of the Kingdom thrive. Westfall was alive, but when our soil grew exhausted and our ore was depleted, a corrupted House of Nobles turned their back on us. Our people were easy targets for the propaganda of the Defias Brotherhood. They could relate to the sentiment of VanCleef, abandoned by the Kingdom whose help they so desperately needed.

I was only a child when my father introduced me to the Militia. My dream was to become a Knight.Knights also start out sparrin’ with uh broomstick, boy!”, my dad used to tell me to cheer me up.

Slowly but steadily we drove the filthy thieves back to their underground lair, but not after they almost laid waste to all of our lands. Farms burned to the ground, so many lives lost. I would never have thought we would see anything worse than this. How wrong I was…

Today, years later, I serve the Westfall Brigade. The official name granted to us after we were recognised as an official Brigade of the Stormwind Army. With a deployment to Northrend behind us, we worked hard to restore Westfall to its former glory. Not even the Cataclysm was able to sweep us off our feet, although many of the farms we worked hard to rebuild were wiped off the map in a matter of minutes.

What once began as a force of volunteers, grew out to become an indispensable part of the Kingdom’s Warmachine. A force to be reckoned with. But for what came then, we were not prepared. Fel fire rained from the sky and the endless hordes of demons tore through our ranks effortlessly. Yet again we lost many of our comrades, but in the end we repelled the Legion from Westfall.

My dream was to become a Knight, but I became a hero of my people.

The Westfall Brigade

As a unit of the Westfall Brigade the Third Westfall Platoon, nicknamed “The Westfall Golems” after the much represented Harvest Watchers in the area, serves the Stormwind Army. Known for their guerilla tactics and relentless stamina, units of the Brigade do not only bolster the defence of Westfall but are also often deployed by the Stormwind War Office. With a history of needing to fend for themselves, units that have been reported missing or dead have been known to return days later with their mission accomplished.

The strength of the Brigade lies in its comradeship and sense of duty. They are not scared to do dirty work, often dragging themselves through the mud while others wouldn’t. The Westfall soldiers just get the job done.

Crafts and skills

Apart from their fighting, patrol and other ‘soldiering’ skills, all men and women who enlist have to choose one or more crafts or skills to practice. The units of the Brigade strive to be as self-reliant as possible so these crafts and skills contribute to their survivability while deployed and on the field of battle.

Enlistees do not require experience in the skills they choose as the Brigade will actively invest time and resources in the training of its soldiers in their crafts and skills of choice.

A few examples are: cooks, hunters, weapon and armour smiths, fishermen, woodsmen, field medics and many more.

Ranks

Applicant: Fresh blood for the Officers to scold at. Applicants will go through a selection procedure as the army is not for everyone. Cowards need not apply!

Recruit: Applicants who made it through selection will officially be enlisted as Recruits. Shortly after the selection assessment, Recruits will start their Basic Training.

Private: A soldier who has completed Basic Training and officially earned his place amongst the ranks of the Westfall Brigade.

Private First Class: Seniors amongst the Privates. The PFC sets the example for the Recruits and Privates. A great soldier doesn’t necessarily mean the person should or wants to become an Officer. This rank of seniority is for them.

Lance-Corporal: Junior Non-Commissioned-Officer (NCO).

Corporal: Medior NCO.

Sergeant: Senior NCO.

Staff Sergeant: Most Senior NCO and second-in-command.

Lieutenant: Platoon Officer Commanding.

How to join the guild?

Recruitment is always open, but new applicants need to wait for the next round of selection days before they can join in on the roleplay. The selection assessment will be organised every three to four weeks or sooner, depending on the need for new recruits.

If you want to apply, you may stumble upon us somewhere in Westfall or Stormwind City but the best approach is to send a letter to the Command Centre in Stormwind, addressed to Lieutenant Feldman or simply the Third Westfall Platoon. You will then receive a formal invite to the next selection days.

The selection assessment consists of four tests over the course of four days. Applicants must pass at least two of the four tests to make it past selection. Applicants who attended but didn’t pass will be allowed another attempt at the next selection round a couple of weeks later. No-shows will not be allowed a second try.

After passing selection, applicants are allowed and encouraged, but not forced, to start their career as a Recruit. Selection will give them a sample of what’s in store for them. Although it’s mandatory for the applicant to finish the selection procedure once started, at the end it will be their choice to enlist or to walk away if the life of a soldier does not seem to be what they’re looking for.

Looks cool! I have to ask though, what happened to the Ridgepoint Raiders?

Thank you for your concern, Matheson.
Although I get the feeling like you’re trying to expose something here, the Ridgepoint Raiders was a typical infantry guild of which I had a few iterations over the years. With this most recent interation, I immediately felt like the concept was exhausted and it was time to go for something new. This is how the Third Westfall Platoon came to be!

I’m not sure what you mean by this. I think it’s fair to ask this question when your previous two attempts at this concept have faded with little progress being made in their stories. What do you think will make this version succeed; what are you doing differently?

I think the point of the game is to enjoy our free time by roleplaying what we are interested in. We shouldn’t judge a guild on the fact that it has come and gone. Many guilds come, go and return based on the activity of its members. The Ridgepoint Raiders was a continuation of roleplay amongst friends that has been going on for years (since the start of 2012). There was in fact a lot of story progression in and outside of the guild. However, the select few that remained thought it was time to move on and bring it to an end.

You are referring to this concept as a ‘version’ of another, which is wrong. The previous concept was heavily inspired by Stormwind Infantry, whereas this concept will have entirely different roleplay aspects. The focus will be on the actual deployments and ‘missions’ of the unit instead of the extensive training that comes with a concept like Stormwind Infantry or the Ridgepoint Raiders. Our roleplay used to rely heavily on confontrations and battles. This new concept provides much more freedom and will in practice be nothing like we’ve done previously.

Absolutely, Footman has come and gone several times as story and activity has dictated. That’s certainly nothing new, but when you’re specifically advertising your concept on the realm forum for the sake of earning interest from prospective recruits, you need to provide some assurances as to the longevity of your concept so it reads as being worth somebody else’s time.

So it’s the Ridgepoint Raiders, but simultaneously not spending as much time training, but also not focusing on confrontations or battles? I’ll admit I’m rather confused as to what the focus of the guild actually will end up being. When you say it will be like nothing you’ve done previously, what exactly will it be like?

I noticed your post on AA, looked awesome imo!
I wish you the best of luck with the guild!

Nice post on the Argent Archives indeed. Looks cool and good to see people starting RP outside of Stormwind’s borders! Good luck with the guild!

Couldn’t agree more, I hear a lot of “Stormwind RP” instead of Alliance RP but there are some guilds who go outside Stormwind, I’m glad to hear this is one of them.

Thank you for the kind words!
Plans for the guild are coming along well! The Selection Process has been planned and the concept as a whole is being refined to the very details! If you’re interested, want to give feedback or if you have any questions, feel free to add me on Discord: Miksel#5916

Certainly looks neat. Bumped! The more people come over to Westfall , the better.
If you feel for a collaborative effort with the Minutemen, just let me know.

Selection days are soon upon us!
Apply to experience the life of a Westfall Footslogger!

These guys seem to know what they’re doing. Refreshing to see a guildmaster with a plan other than “lol let’s make a guild”.

After some help of a very friendly GM, our guild got renamed to “The Westfall Brigade” ! This was the intention from the start, but the name was taken.

Last evening we officially opened recruitment and so far we were able to welcome six applicants of which some still have to apply in-character!

The Selection Days start on Wednesday, the 6th of May! Until then your character can still apply for a spot in this first round of assessments! For more info, contact me on Discord: Miksel#5916

Westfall’s storyline is one of the best leveling experiences on Alliance side, both classic and cata in my opinion. It deserves to be a very active area of roleplay, and Im happy to see a guild make it so. Hope to cross paths with you guys someday🤙

I write to you, sir, to inform you of a grievous act of misconduct on behalf of one of your subordinates.

The event took place at the Town Hall in the Cathedral Square earlier today. I approached the man in question, who at the time was on recruitment duty. I demanded for him to present himself to me accordingly; name, rank and unit. Unfortunately, I was met by insults. I allowed this initial folly to pass by unchallenged, however, the slurs did not cease.

This is highly unprofessional, and I can only assume that this will be dealt with in an efficient and effective manner.

Regards,

Knight-Lieutenant Hayes

PS: Hope all’s well with you and yours. Do wish Sally the best from me!

Top notch gritty, dusty, rugged Westfallian bunch right here!

Lieutenant Feldman closes his eyes and sighs annoyedly as he reads the letter that arrived moments earlier. “Lieutenant Feldman, you are to report to the Command Centre immediately at your first availble moment on your first day back in the City. We have received a complaint of misconduct for which you will be questioned.”, it reads.

Feldman stows the note away in one of his pouches, muttering something about Stormwind and tedious bureaucracy.

Around her wrist she wore a yellow ribbon
She wore it in the springtime and the early month of May
And if you asked her why the hell she wore it
She wore it for a Westfall boy who’s far far away!
