Tournament of the Tide
Boralus, Kul Tiras
2024-07-22T22:00:00Z→2024-07-27T22:00:00Z
In honour of the three noble provinces of Kul Tiras underneath the Tidemother’s protection, the Tournament of the Tide shall take place between the twenty-third and twenty-eighth days of the month. Sponsored in part by an assortment of Kul Tiran merchants, the local Tidesage commune, and a nobleman’s son by the name of Riverheart, the festivities are both a breath of life into the oldtown and new walks of Boralus, and a chance for commerce and local merchants— from tavern owners to shopkeeps— to benefit and blossom from the influx of spectators.
Introduction
In said celebration, eight games shall take place for both locals and those who travel near and far to attend. Whilst some are noble traditions placed and found within every tournament, from Stromgarde to Stormwind to even these here isles, some are native to the region. Winners of these games shall receive items crafted or procured as fitting their won game and shall be given to them upon the final night. If, for whatever reason, a winner cannot attend the final night of celebrations— a very pesky courier is sure to deliver said reward as soon as the victor can be tracked down.
The Final Celebration
The last night of the tournament shall be hosted within Norwington Estate, which often hosts and embellishes its self-owned equestrian games. Victors shall receive their accolades and awards, a final speech from the hosts shall be given, and spectators and competitors alike shall be welcome to eat, dance, and celebrate their nights away. Keep an eye out! A certain playwright, now known for his winnings at the Grand Gilneas Games, may make an appearance… show in hand to perform!
Player Guide
For all participants and spectators, the hosts have written a guide for you! Said guide elaborates on all rules for tourney goers and competitors, useful maps for finding your way around Boralus, as well as a list of rewards and expectations.

The Games
Over the length of the tournament’s six days, there are seven games. Three are chivalric and traditional to the majority of human tourneys across the east, whilst the other four are more localized and specific to Kul Tiras at large. Below are short summaries of each contest, however, you can find more information on them (including their dice rules) in the guide above. Each winner receives a pouch of coins and a rewarded item. The coin pouch’s amount is kept vague due to roleplayers’ differing opinions on currency amounts, but it is to be a usual winner’s pouch for such events.
Dueling
The first event of the tournament, the duels are one of the oldest, most honourable competitors known to the human race. Sixteen competitors are allowed to sign their names to partake and shall participate in one-on-one combat until one is left standing.
Melee
A large-scale, every-man-for-himself recreation of battle, the melee is perhaps the most entertaining— if not chaotic— competition any tourney can host. There are few rules in such a gambit, and all are encouraged to take what advantage they can and yield little to their fellow competitors, whether it is forging deals with teams beforehand, or bravely diving into the fold alone.
Riflery
Boralus is known for its rifles and prowess in gunmanship, and this contest expects the best of the best— local and foreign— in a show of accuracy and skill. Fifteen sharpshooters are allowed to enter, engaging in three five-person rounds of five shots with the best rifleman moving to the next round. Finally, the best sharpshooter of each group faces off in a final round, and takes victory for themself!
Loremaster's Gambit
Though once part of the Arathorian Empire, our great kingdom of Kul Tiras has steeped itself in ancient lore and history, with endless tomes, scrolls, books, stories, and tales all dedicated to its cultures, battles, settlements, and so forth. Do you fancy yourself a bookworm? A scholar, a wizard wisened to the art of being well-read? Perhaps you know more than your peers on Kul Tiran history? Well, maybe you’ll win.
Fishing
There’s no better seafarer than a Kul Tiran and no one who fishes quite as fiercely! This gambit is for those who wield a rod like no other, and find themselves confident and ready to delve with hook and bait into chummed waters and see who reels in the biggest prize.
Knot-Tying
A sailor needs to know how to tie a good knot! Whether he’s up in the rigging, attaching cargo to be hauled, tending to the anchor, tying her shoes, or a myriad of other reasons, a bad knot means a bad day. This contest puts one’s knot-tying to the test, making competitors display their skill in a myriad of knots against the weight of a far-too-heavy anchor.
Jousting
A classic competition, as old as time. Sixteen knights clad themselves in shining armour and take up their lance, striking in tilts upon a great compass in the streets of Boralus. Yet it is as much spectacle as it is awe-inspiring. Will gauntlets be thrown? Will favourites find themselves in our seaport city, seeking the title of champion?
One must also respect the laws of Boralus and that of the Grand Alliance during their stay within Boralus’ city limits. Competitors must not be a known and declared enemy of the Admirality, the Noble Houses, the Storm’s Wake, or the Order of Embers (see: PIRACY). One can find more information on such within the guide.
For Entertainers, Merchants, Shopkeepers, Stalls, etc.
If you are someone looking to run a merchant stall, provide a roleplay tavern to encourage roleplayers to congregate after competitions, or any manner of community within Boralus during the length of the tourney, feel free to reach out! Bards, merchants, shopkeepers, entertainers and all sorts are more than welcome.
If you would like to assist as management (medics, volunteer judges, after-games carpball game-runners, even, then please reach out!
