How would people feel about the opposite of Spriest as a DPS Priest spec? I’m not here to talk about in depth how to balance this, what the numbers will be etc, but it’s more about the theme.
I had the idea for an “Inquisitor” style DPS spec, the first Light-based caster DPS. The idea is for it to basically be a DPS mirror to Holy, where Holy is pure Light, no shadow spells whatsoever unlike Disc, Inquisitor would have Light spells only. While Shadow is focused more around DoTs and Voidform, this spec would be focused on more instant damage (Though carrying holy fire over from holy as a Dot you can apply)
Basic spells it would have from existing specs can consist of Smite, Holy Fire, Holy Word: Chastise, Penance even.
The theme is, to summarise, a pure light dps caster who burns their foes with holy flame, meant to be a dps reflection of holy, and a holy reflection of Shadow. Besides the theme I feel like this would make playing a Priest in general more fun, because if Shadow is bad on a current priest, you have 0 good DPS specs, a second dps spec would help alleviate that feeling and make the class in general more appealing. Feel free to contribute your opinions!
I’d rather they just fix the one spec we have.
It’s clear enough from Alpha they are out of creative juices when it comes to even shadow. I’d hate for them to overexert themselves and try to make a whole new spec.
At this point they should just introduce CoP again and scrap void form.
-
Remove Shadow from Priest class and add new light DPS spec for priest.
-
Bring back old Shadow and make new spec for tentacle fanboys.
-
New class will have two specs, single artifact and the same class hall as Priest. They will share it.
The first light caster dps it’s not going to be a priest but a paladin.
We are many, we like to hit people with big two hand maces and we’ve been asking a ranged spec since vanilla.
Plus all the priest specs currently have issues or are underperforming, why ask for more suffering?
Paladin will never get caster spec~
It can be Light Archer at best.
I would play it for sure. I’m a caster DPS player so a new ranged spec is always welcome. So far all the new classes added to the game were melee, so I never played them much tbh.
You already have a spec that’s about being all light crazy and purging people, Priests only choice for DPS is Shadow, why can’t they be allowed to purge the wicked with their own holy DPS?
Holy is getting SWP in SL.
This is essentially what Disc was like before Cataclysm (I think) and I adored it. Making it a specific healing spec really disappointed me and I am waiting in hope for it to revert one day. I cannot for the life of me play shadow!
Bring back orb mechanic + devouring plague and i’d be happy to go back to it atleast.
So…You want a 4th spec?
So…You want druud privilege…
These things happen only with druids im afraid
Agreed but the same goes for paladin and monk and actually also dh.
Druids have:
- Tank spec
- Healing spec
- Ranged DPS spec
- Melee DPS spec
Why would Priests need a second ranged DPS spec ?
One is enough in my opinion.
That’s the case for Paladins, Monks, DH.
Just work that one spec to actually work, maybe damaging while healing the party like in TBC.
I remember a arena season in which a rogue and a shadow priest came first in US.
Let Warlocks and Mages have more than one DPS spec.
The last thing Priest needs in my opinion is competing with this two classes.
Paladins as ranged DPS seems weird.
Why would you need to use plate just to attack from the distance ?
Would it become another fun spec, none wants in Mithic + as the priest 4th spec ?
Mail armor in this regard never made much sense to me for Hunters and Elemental Shamans tbh.
Leather or light armor would be more logic.
That’s my opinion.
Cheers.
They need to make their 1st dps spec viable. Void form feelsbadman.
I don’t understand why they can get stuck on so many bad spec designs.
Sub rogue, shadow priest, demo lock, arcane mage, feral druids, and SV hunters all suffered from bad design choices where Blizzard refuses to go back or make any significant changes.
I would honestly feel frustrated as class designer if I had to come up with new Artifact traits, Legendaries, Azerite traits, or now Thorgast/convenant powers for specs that nearly noone plays (I have only seen 3-4SV hunters and not a single sub rogue during whole BfA, no matter what content).
Or trying to balance Spriest because of VF being either useless or completely broken.
Or buffing Arcane mage every single patch for them to stay relevant.
When always the same 3-4 specs remain in the top5 of least played specs in raiding, M+, and PvP (okay maybe not SV hunters here) you would think that those would be the first to get redesigned and not balance druid, one of the most popular dps specs.
Splitting the Priest class in two would be a neat idea.
Making “Priest of the Light” and “Priest of the Shadow” their own classes would be interesting…
Giving them two specs each, one for damage and one for healing? Maybe the Shadow healing would be somewhat dmg based like Discipline is?
And that way we’d be rid of the abomination that is Void Elf Holy Priests.
I had the idea that if they really wanted to make the theme different, make Disc into a full void themed spec. So we have Void heal and DPS, and Light heal and DPS.
It was fun in Legion now its just… meh
Rather than a second DPS spec, I would imagine fixing shadow could work better with less resources to develop. Just revert shadow to MoP design, done. Fixed first DPS spec for you.
Shadow needs fixing, it’s a spec where you have a talent that almost kills you. I mean, wow, just wow. At least it doesn’t kill you anymore.
If someone added a talent “You charge the target and get a 25% Damage increase then lose 90% health” the warrior community would go crazy.
