A simple and modern wow UI?

I aint no ultra hardcore like all of you, but just wanted to drop by and say that its a shame that 15 years later you still need addons to have a comfortable play.

But a lot of improvements have been made, i like retail because of that. But feels like you shouldnt need to worry about addons at all to play wow today. And its no an argument to say “you can install any addons you like”, because the zero addon ui is the baseline most people will use who will never post here. And some basic addons make people objectively better players… people who you will depend on.

I feel like in Retail you would need just two more UI addons as part of default blizz UI.

1st is Bagnon - where all bags are shown as one single big bag.
2nd is bartender alternative with a super clean and minimal setup, thats easy to understand to new players.

  • no idea how to post a picture here, so just imagine a 6x4 button grid at the center bottom screen with preset keybinds (wasd is still movement ofc).
    Top row is 1,2,3,4,5,6,
    second down row is q,w,e,r,t,y,
next row down is a,s,d,f,g, mousewheelup
last bottom row is z,x,c,v,b, mousewheeldown

The micro buttons menu could be just below or above it. Hope you get the idea.
And there definitely should be a check-mark to remove blizz artstyle on action bars.

Thank you for reading. Take care.

I prefer GW2 UI mod for WoW. It’s very neat and tidy.

I use the basic UI and have no problem.

The only Addons I use are recount and DBM.

'Upload image on-line somewhere, and then copy link between two ` (to make forums believe you did not post a link, however this is acceptable detour by community here)

Direct link-to-image linking from any source can done by trust level 3 posters.

Give Elvui a try, it comes with bagnon.

Some very nice profiles for it you can get online too. Some are more elaborate than others ofc but the one am using is nice and simple.

I use the default UI. Only addons are recount, DBM and Auctioneer.

Imo no reason to do this. Even if Blizz creates an informative / good bag or action bar, there would be still people custimizing it with addons. You can’t create something that everybody like and you can’t compete with the infinite amount of addons with infinite amount of skins. (Why would you want in the first place tho, addons are good and community driven things)

I disagree with this, there are people like me who prefer to have the bags separate to sort out stuff instead of having one big unit with all in them. I don’t think it would be a good idea to make that the default option.

Can you use “wasd” for more than one thing or is it with shift or ctrl?

Also I use the tbag addon, it allows you to sort stuff and move things between categories.

I only use mousewheel up and down for zooming, the mousewheel button is what I use for interrupts.

I currently have 117 addons installed (according to twitch client - some of those like DBM have multiple segments so a counted multiple times)

I agree. I tried the popular bag mods and didn’t like any of them at all.

Indeed. It is terrible to have everything in 1 bag  It is a setting I disabled in my elvui.

Adibags has filters, items are sorted into sections as you wish, there are premade ones and you can make your own if you need to. To me using the default bag is just crazy.

The default bags you can assign too, so I have ‘sections’ too. And it is very easy to find your stuff in it like this.

I’m a heavy user of ElvUI and had absolutely no idea about this.
This is really, really cool!

This is the reason why they don’t put too much effort into the UI.
The player base is huge, and people like so many different things.
So instead they allow the ui to be easily modified.
Works for me. I hate the look of the standard ui, but I would also hate what OP is suggesting. Just keep it as it is and let people mod it to their liking.

I feel like it’s alright the way it is. I find WoW quite overwhelming anyways (in the beginning) and the default UI is at least really simple, so it doesn’t confuse you anymore. Also, different players enjoy different addons, so what might be a good default option for player A might be bad for player B (shifting instead of solving the problem); and giving more than one option as default would overcomplicate it, imo.

I feel like if you are at the point where you want to change your interface to maximize your gameplay, you are most likely also willing to install the addons suiting you.

I am actually one of those weirdos who doesn’t like to have one big mega bag.

I really also don’t want some block grid either.

However you can set that up with addons and keybindings. So why not use them.

No, shoo. This is why addons are customizable and optional, I like my bags separate.

I hate ‘one big bag’ thing so much that it was one of the 1st things I always turn off in Tukui. It somehow makes me totally flip. It is super annoying and lacks any sense of order for me.
