Lol wut? I play this to slay dragons with my friends while dealing most damage possible and getting BiS gear to deal even more damage to the next dragon.
Only one talent spec exists, the one that allows me to do most damage to the dragon while just barely surviving the encounter.
Or giving multiple talents as baseline just for picking the spec. It’s equal to essentially picking your talents for you, just in a roundabout way. It also increases effective player power by almost 15 levels at level 10.
Well if you dont want a Spell then you dont have to choose a spell at all idk. Tell me youre picking a destro and never pick confla. Also i think we established already that leveling experience is a little bit more steamrolled. Some like it others dont. I thought we’re talking about some max lvl hybrid specs.
Nah, it’s just about partially removing / reducing the illusion of choice. It’s a natural route towards the MoP system, pretty obvious they already had it planned in Cata and wanted to ease players into it.
That said, Wrath talent trees are not great, I liked vanilla more, at least for Warlock. Lots of non-meta talents in each tier.
Cataclysm turned a 51 point tree into a 31 point tree and forced you to take an end talent. It removed some talents, merged some talents, moved some talents. It’s very different.
The bigger changes are in the fundamental mechanical differences under the hood, like the way on-next hit abilities got removed and replaced with separate global cooldowns with cooldowns instead of being tied to weapon swing. Block got changed from a static damage reduction that gave it niche value vs multiple targets to a percentage damage reduction, making it work like another layer of armor/dr instead of block.
WOTLK under the hood is very much an evolution of Vanilla, while Cataclysm is really a fresh step forward. Sadly that fresh step forward wasn’t really that great across the board and largely resulted in homogenisation of gameplay and a few new concepts that wouldn’t be well established and thought out until MOP.
And for me personally. It’s weird having cooldowns like Inner Rage, a 30s cd with a 15s uptime but when it’s up you can’t use your major 2min cooldown. And all it does is drop the HS/Cleave cooldown from 3s to 1.5 seconds as some sort of weird replacement for haste scaling, but it’s up 50% of the time and can’t be used during Deadly Calm?
It’s just weird man. And then Prot is just like a glass tank that does millions of damage and can’t survive, with no block niche like pre-cata. Fury is all kinds of janky with the enrage mechanics and raging blow, and it does literally no dps for the entire expansion.
Cataclysm has some wins, Arms Warrior is actually good if they fixed the weird stance dancing on every GCD due to the dumb stance changes, and also if they reworked/removed inner rage, unnecessary clutter. Or if they just abandoned Cata design and stuck with Classic style.
