A small change to make Cataclysm Classic better

Please Blizzard, remove the 31 needed talent points in 1 tree in order to use points in other trees. This limits class creativity and it doesn’t make sense to limit it. This will make classes more enjoyable in Cataclysm.

Classes arent more fun right now because you can do it, Blizzard learned from their mistake (atleast once) and prevented future monstrosities like holyprot in 3.1 with this limit.

I would be interested in seeing what type of builds people would come up with if the 31 needed talent points restriction was removed

If talent tree lock would be removed the creativity period will be very short and meta would be created right after PTR.

This is true but thats the thing with talent trees. They are an illusion of choice.
So yes the creativity period wont last long before the BIS talent trees have been made for all classes but atleast we might get some new builds which work differently from the original talent trees from back in Cataclysm.

Pretty sure it would brick the game.

Yeah, but not everything is about be sweaty in raids. I created many funny builds for BG, for example.
The reason why you have to finish one tree is simple. It is easier to balance it that way. So Blizzard lazyness.

Hell yeah, do this.

They are welcome to change the game however they like, most people just wanna have fun, do it.

I prefer the “illusion of choice” in RPG games where you can play with stats and talents over “doing everything for you behind the scenes” like Retail did for many years.

This is what I meant and therefor it is the reason I started playing classic in the first place. I hated the way the talent system worked from MoP to Shadowlands.

Do you like dragonflight talents?

I prefer if they keep it as always, many people didn’t experience Cata xapc back then.

In a way I do. They still give me an illusion of choice as there well always be a best spec, but I like that cuz it still gives me the option to choose what I want to spec into with each point, just like WotLK

So far in 1 year of df a swapped exactly 1 talent cos of its nerf. Decent choice i must say, Its not like there were actual completely different specs in those (mop-sl) expansions for example you could play aoe incinerate spec or single target chaos Bolt spec. In fact these mop-sl talents were criticised cos you had to play different specs for different bosses in pve cos there were actually options and multiple builds were playable. But i Guess these wotlk talents i didnt have to change Once in whole expansion are better… :frowning:

Playstyle diversity, tragic.

Having played Unholy DK for all of Wotlk now I can say I have only swapped around a few talent points here and there and in the end it probably didn’t change much for the overall experience of the class and for me and that’s fine.

But the ability to have the option to choose where you put each talent point is for me what makes these talent trees more enjoyable to play around with.

I don’t know if they were better I just liked them more than the “pick one talent/new ability in each of the 6 rows” system that we had from MoP to SL

Having to swap between fire and arcane every other boss in Ulduar was not fun at all, especially since I’d inevitably leave the wrong hit amout set on every few swaps.
Also the fact I have to click 71 times to swap between, say, Incanters absorption and dragons breath/bw is just pointless busywork. I havent “experimented” with talents since 2005 when I leveled my firat 2 chars as markseman hunter (because I thought the moon priestess aura was op in Warcraft 3, and this was mmo, i’d buff so many ranged archers!) and a fire mage (because fireball goes boom!!!) And levelling as a wrong spec was such a miserable experience I nearly missed out on 20 years of raiding with frinds because of how terrible vanilla ui/levelling/user friendliness was.
But I digress. Cata and especially MoP talents are just a direct improvement on the system we have now, because clicking 10 times to get +5%crit and 20% mana refunded before clicking once on an ability that is core to your gameplay is just stupid, tedious illusion of choice.

Warrior is way more fun because you can avoid endpoint talents, there are a bunch of niche builds from just that. Thanks for your opinion though but I agree with the OP. Though we can go one further and not have Cataclysm talents at all, but that’s not happening.

Cata talents are almost the same as wrath tho?

I think thats why we play this, no?

Gonna sound like one of those guys here, but i don’t think that was necessary at all.

What is the dps difference really like?
