A suggestion on how to improve the fire mage in pvp

  1. Perform cauterize to restore 65% of health, burn 25% afterwards. Quite often, when this skill is activated, the mage still dies in 1-2 seconds, so now it is not a replacement for the 2nd Iceblock of the frost mage, or rogues cheat death. This buff will improve fire mage survival to an acceptable level.
2. Make a Blazing barrier so that it does not dispel, as well as the pvp talent Fireheart so that it works not only against melee, but also at a range direct damage skills.

Also, when the alter time is dispelled, it does not just disappear, but is immediately activate.

Fire mage has one very big problem, because of which he is not competitive - there are completely no defensive skills against distant opponents - they simply do not exist. Alter time, barrier are almost useless, because hunters, priests, shamans, etc. can immediately dispell it. It turns out that you are just a whipping pear who is doomed to run around the column so that you are not killed immediately.
Fire mage against melee fighters seems to be fine now.

  1. Combustion - increase the duration to 15 seconds, during this time give it ability to reduce incoming damage by at least 15%.
    Now this skill is just terrible. 10 seconds is too little to do anything in pvp. There are a lot of micro controls in the game, in these 10 seconds you can easily catch 1-2 stuns, fear’s, horrors , disorientation , silence etc. Against good players 2000+ with 10 seconds you can run more than half the time in CC without doing anything. At this time, even if you are not controlled, opponents can activate defensive skills - which can’t just be dispelled as an alter time. .

  2. Ignite - reduce burning to 5 seconds. Now with 9 seconds of burning, well, it’s just very difficult to effectively use it in the window when the enemy healer is in control, usually it’s 6-10 seconds at best.

These changes will not affect PVE, in PVP the fire mage will be able to be a competitive class at the level of shadow priests or ferals , or hunter … well, you know, now the fire mage is one of the worst classes for pvp, if not the worst.

honestly we are just missing a ton of dmg. like, a TON of dmg
if tomorrow they buffed pyroblast by 100% dmg, it still would be low, thats how bad fire tuning and design is, idk where they going with the world in flames nerfs, now flamestrike has become useless again, pyro is useless, idk why socrch hits so hard instead

but still, all mage spells could use a solid 100% buff, and that would still not put them on S tier
as for survaiability we had worse, firehart is a very odd talent choice, and removing flamecannon is another very odd talent choice
glass cannon is the talent everyone wants removed, fireheart is good only vs rogues, even if they make it 1600% instead of 800% it still will be useless vs most other classes, and so is glass cannon

ice wall is always good
gpie we lack haste and its not a good design
idk what their plan was with litfuse but they clearly botched it theymself…

I play as a fire mage at 2000. He’s damage is good, especially with nukes. I do more damage than all the frost mages I’ve played against lately .The problem is the lack of protection against range.
Fireheart is very good against all melee , if you buff it so that it works even vs range - there would be no price for this talent.
The burst problem can be easily fixed if the ignite time is reduced from 9 seconds to 5.

500k pyro on 7-8mil hp is nothing
if i want ignite dmg ill build mastery
fire is undertuned, i know how to “do damage” but since im not an arena player, and i play what i truly believe is the actual game, and i don’t ahve a rogue with me 24/7 to setup my dmg, or a healear helping me stay alive till the next combustion, i know how the class ACTUALLY STAND right now
specially because ive played it for decades with no brakes and all 3 specs, i can easily compare the dmg the tankiness, the mobility, and the utility
the damage falls short, and its not even close, there definettly were times were it was overtuned in the past, but in every expansion, modifiers during your burst vs someone not walling or ccing you = kill, except this expansion apparently
you can pick any expansion, and i promise, the damage was at least twice, and i say AT LEAST, some patches it was even 5-10 times this.

then again, i know how most arena mages operate, chances are everyone has ring of fire and that already dish out S tier dmg with low cast time outside of your burst

I only play soloshuffle. Now the fire mage can kill the target by himself within 3-5 seconds during the meteor fall, provided, of course, that the target does not use defensive skills, and healer is sheeped, which gives you 12% Versatility, which means another 12% damage. Therefore, I think that this is more than enough. 2 million meteor, 1.5 million frostfirebolt fly in for 2 GCD, then fire blast (of global) + pyro, or just 3 fireblsts + pyro in a row if the target already has little HP,. Plus you can use scorch proc 700-900k dmg.

Average arena damage is on par with other classes, sometimes higher, sometimes lower, depending on whether you’re the primary kill target.

500k pyro always goes with 400k fireblast (it doesn’t have a GCD), that’s already 900k for one glob, add an ignite to it, that’s +40% damage for 9 seconds.

nothing, and i mean, nothing dies in 3-5 seconds vs a firemage if they have gear and are not cced

The fire mage during the first 5 seconds of the nuke has 1,5-2 million dps for me. Do you think this is not enough to kill someone in 5 seconds, provided that they do not activate defensive skills? Meteor - 2 million damage, frostfire bolt - 1.5 million. Don’t forget that before nuke you have to use all phoenixes and fire blasts, plus procs of scorch. This is already an ignition on the target. Next, mage casts a sheep on healer, you have 6 seconds of 12% damage from the pvp talent. today I played solo shuffle, killed players like that, and dont say that they don’t know how to play or are dressed badly - it was on 2k rating. Another game together with the rogue in his cloud, we killed a demon hunter and a warrior, who among them died first on sight - i dont know, but the cloud was still there, and their HP dropped from 100% to 0.

I think ignite is the biggest problem for fire mage, in that it is hard to balance around all the different formats, including PvE. If ignite’s importance were strongly diminished and the damage instead frontloaded into active spells, balancing fire mage wouldn’t be such a headache.

but now they just keep making stuff up and don’t know which direction to go, they are so scared of giving any relevant buff to firemage that the only thing they do is keep buffing the weakest and less used spells only
