They’re rlly not tho.
In such a scenario, “Don’t ERP rule” gives a very clear idea. Which is more important to you, getting your rocks off IC or being part of a larger community
In the case of a former, leave as you don’t abide by the guild rules, if latter, the rule is perfectly serving its purpose.
I don’t really see how it’s a double-edged sword if in both cases it ends with the guild I’m in having less ERPers

It’s not thou.
How is it too much? We are in a 12+ game buddy.
But it would be a lot harder for them, nearly impossible.
No erp allowed is a pretty crytall clear message.
its like fading to black isn’t an option.
Funnily enough, to people who are unwilling to drop ERP, I don’t think it is.
Not at all. Things that you wouldn’t see in a 12+ medium, you shouldn’t RP in a 12+ medium. It’s not hard.
the car’s on fire and there’s no driver at the wheel
that’s been my weekly vague post thank you for reading
“how can the relationship be real if you don’t ERP?”
(sarcasm obv.)
This is exactly what I was thinking. Enabling this type of behaviour, even if the enabler doesn’t actually ERP, under the excuse of just “two consenting adults having fun” just opens up another can of worms the rest of the server has to put up with as we see it leak into popular RP hubs like Stormwind and people are actually having to put “Please don’t approach me for ERP” in their TRPs.
It also wouldn’t be the first time I’ve seen the “two consenting adults” excuse used to defend abusive and minor/underage exploitation themes in RP. First of all, you don’t know if the other person is an adult behind the screen, and second, the people who even think about RPing out themes like this should be banned, and in my ideal world, prosecuted irl.
Having guilds refuse and punish ERP is a good first step.
Making it clear it’s not appreciated when it’s in public from anyone also helps; it shows that we’re not tolerating it being a presence on the realm.
There will probably always be perverts, but at the moment they have tacit approval because people keep giving them loopholes. This is why even the more notorious sexpests can continue to thumb their nose at us.
If we actually said we won’t tolerate ERP no matter what; no matter if it’s two consenting adults, if it’s “character development”, if it’s just cheeky platonic smutty harmless fun anyway, and on and on through all the little excuses and justifications and exceptions… there will be improvement.
If some people have their chars romantically involved they can either puruse the romance in-game while abiding by the game’s rules and not being sleazebags in front of potential underage players or they can take that entire aspect to another game/chatroom/server etc where 18+ content is allowed.
It’s like when a baby doesn’t realise someone still exists because they can no longer see them.
If they don’t see the act written out explicitly, how else could they know these two characters in a romantic relationship are intimate with each other?
It’s really weird to me that some people are so confident that they will either be allowed to carry on, or that some others will indeed fight for their right to party; that some people openly put links to fetish-lists in trps, link to nsfw artwork, and act out extreme kink with a ‘friend’ or even stranger, and then share this all with their online friends, Twitter followers, Discord, etc. as if it’s the same as sharing a peculiar story or funny cat video. It’s all just so casual.
Here’s something.
When I was dating a rampant ERPer (like, all he did was that and base his RP around it sort of thing) it opened my eyes up to what DOES go on. I even found out that people in very prestigious guilds do this stuff with trusted people (eg. SWC member was into… canine RP…) and it is probably more rampant and worse than you think it is when it comes to people ERPing. It’s everywhere and even the most innocent seeming people can be guilty.
So how do you actually combat something you can’t see in general? Hm.
I didnt read a single word and i just want to cast you into the maw.
ban all romantic relations in roleplay
Can’t even say it was romantic lol. This was just pure lust from what I saw.
Tbf I saw enough that it put me off and I can speak freely about the actual issues now.
This is a good start - show the level of discomfort it causes.
Additionally, what Watrus said, “Let adults do what adults want” enables this sort of behaviour and is more detrimental as a whole.
And this is indeed what will happen if we leave ERP unchecked.
In my lockdown boredom I decided to check out some other MMOs. I landed upon a game called Guild Wars 2. It has an unofficial RP server.
What I saw there was something that’d put me off RP if it comes to WoW. I saw people like “Evelyn Hardthrust” (real name) standing there with their pants down at what is basically the cathedral square of that game. It put me off roleplaying in that game.
These people aren’t roleplayers and don’t contribute to RP in any way. They are OOCers waiting to get their fix. They don’t RP, they just stand there until someone approaches them for dirty.
It puts a chokehold around the server that will eventually just bleed it dry until there are only ERPers and OOCers left.
It is why I am really glad that we go to any lenght to defend our pretty server against non-RPing crooks.
It doesn’t work as well as intended.
For instance I constantly said I don’t want to ERP with said ex but he still always asked me for it until he gave up and respected my decision with some luck. But that was face to face when he lived with me.
So what would stop someone anonymously doing what they want with who they want? They really don’t care.
Perhaps I’m just tired of trying to control choices of others as those people who don’t care about the rules will break them regardless. As a guild master/officer you can kick ERP folks (been there, done that, mind you!) but then again, it comes with its own complications such as having awkward discussions about why people were kicked out of blue and why I’d be strictly enforcing rules that even Blizz doesn’t care about unless the cases are extreme.
Seeing shades of grey between black and white isn’t an act of support, it’s a choice to respond each situation as they come and judge them with the knowledge you currently have about them. Even as a passive act of support (if you see it like that), it’s more like “let people do what they do and focus on you unless other people bring their ERP in front of your nose”.
