To properly commit to this fundamental aspect of World of Warcraft , we now have a dedicated Social initiative within our development team. Social stands alongside our other initiatives (like Expansions or Housing) to provide solutions and features—like, for example, rewards for positive behavior

Well if we’re going to be rewarded for it

Can we get actual development changes for Cata+MOP? PvP is super downhill and unplayed due to no balancing and gatekept rewards. We really need Gladiator in 2v2 to return. Only 30 Gladiator slots in 3v3 really shows how bad it is right now :frowning:

Housing info! GIEF!

An area we want to double-down on in a big way is our community.

Meh. I’ll just have more content please.

There is a thread on AD for player housing, likely good to look through that and any other threads from other servers that may have been made.

Hoping that Housing isn’t just another/different version of Garrisons and that it actually feels like a home within the world rather than a housing block like FFXIV and that its not Warbound, but characters have their own to assist the RP communities and those who actually want to have their characters have a space of their own to call home that isn’t just a generic X or Y house.

I fear warbound homes will actually be a negative as they will limit what can be created by players to make their characters feel unique. One way that might work if you were to force the homes to be warbound would be that the first home can be customised and seen by all characters unless you obtain a ‘permit’ of some kind for individual customisations per character, but I don’t think that is something that Blizzard would even do.

Please don’t make everything cost thousands of gold either or pay to own, have things bound to fun achievements and the world you have built instead of just paying with gold or real world money.

Or you know
Give the player the choice for either.
Both have their own merits.

Where I wouldn’t want them to be Warbound, is that I’d like each of my characters to feel at home. For example:
My Blood Elf Warlock and Blood Elf Paladin - despite both being Blood Elves, both have very different values and having a player house for Blood Elves that is basically “Look how amazing Belf Pallys are!” doesn’t suit the vibe I’m going for, when I play my Blood Elf Warlock.

Even if Blood Elves have 1 player house style, I’d like each character to have their own ways of dressing them up. So have more fel-based things for my Blood Elf Warlock and Demon Hunter, whilst more Sunwell / Light-based things for my Blood Elf Paladin.

Exactly this  I expanded my above reply a bit cause I posted it too early like a twerp.

It’s good to hear you’re looking into social features.

I dearly hope it’s going to be about the world and our characters more than it’s going to be about yet more UI panels.

a wing in the building per char style to do out as they wish  - I like :+1:

Yes - if Blizzard were willing, have a large fel-crystal in a room for my Blood Elf Warlock to siphon his fel magic.

Or for my Mage - have a large library, akin to the Sunfury Spire’s library wings

Or for my Hunter - have an open area with Amani Troll target dummies with an option to add some bow appearances to some shelves, like the Golden Bow of Quel’Thalas, Black Bow of the Betrayer, Thas’dorah and the Sunfury Bow of the Pheonix.

So housing, accessibility, and social features?

I think those are fair reflections.

Personally I’m still not convinced by the idea of housing, but maybe the preview will sway me.

I think everyone recognizes that Retail WoW has an awful introduction to new and returning players alike. And whilst it’s commendable to try and improve it over the next several years, maybe that’s already too little and too late?

Social features also feels like a reflection that should have been made many years ago in order to strengthen and support the in-game communities players already had at the time. Today there is no real social aspect to Retail WoW, so it’s a much harder task to rebuild that from the ground up. And I would question if it’s even possible.

I totally get that. In fact I feel the same.
But I’m sure there’s players who’d love to have 1 home for all their characters. That was more my point. Why limit it if it can be both?

WoW not built on RP huh

“roleplaying <gasp!>, and more”

I’m sure there would be, but I don’t think it should be forced into being Warbound.

I think Blizzard should trust the players to know the lore and let the players have free reign to customise their individual character player housing.

For example - a Forsaken character who still holds loyalty to those old ways that Sylvanas encouraged. Forsaken players should be given options to have easter egg features in their player housing that is optional between being a former Sylvanas Loyalist and still clinging to those old ideals or wanting to distance him/herself from Sylvanas and embrace the Forsaken’s new path under the Desolate Council.

Likewise - as controversial as it might be, Blizzard have put efforts into establishing the Night Elf Mages into current Night Elf society and them taking up a prominent role. Maybe Blizzard should allow some old Highborne/Kaldorei features or memorabilia (easter eggs) that shows former loyalty to Queen Azshara.

I disagree. You made this game antisocial a long time ago. No one is interested in communicating because everyone can be reported for the mildest things and get silenced.

While you keep pretending that you care about it, the reality is that you keep making WoW more and more antisocial. And what is this ‘Good behavior’ - a social credit system?

The only interesting bit of information in that long post was the stuff related to “social features”. What’s Blizzard thinking of?

Will we be able to commend other players at the end of a dungeon run like in HotS and Overwatch?
