I possibly have some minor OCD issues but I often find myself deleting characters simply because I do not want to see them in the selection screen while I work on other characters.
I also can’t ever decide between a Nelf/Belf DH so I rotate between the two.
I’m not here to discuss the merits of that or whether it’s healthy but I would be curious to know if anyone is the same and often had a clear out and deletes unplayed characters or character s that don’t feel right?
Maybe if I could just hide them from view I wouldn’t keep deleting/undeleting them (I’m aware that still wouldn’t solve the one DH per realm issue for me).
Depends on how much this bother you, and how many alts you have, you can move them to the bottom of the list. I have like 18 alts on my realm and I guess if that bothered be I could move them down where I can’t see them.
I believe most people exhibit some sort of obsessive and/or compulsive behavior. Most people would probably be placed on the low end of the scale as they are able to control and contain that behavior (what you might refer to as “get over it”).
When people are unable to control those behaviors it can be classified as a disorder (OCD).
Indeed though at risk of offending people who really do have serious issues with OCD, I really didn’t want to use that as an excuse/blame.
The fact is, I like things neat and orderly and very routine, the way I quest, level, time spent on tasks and exploration and story progression…
This is not unique to wow either, I have restarted many RPGs because I felt like I could do it again but cleaner and neater!
Maybe it’s an issue (it has certainly left my friends questioning me) but it’s something I’m okay with for the most part. It just means that instead of having one 120 mage that I have invested years into, I have several 120 mages across servers that I have (for some reason) felt the need to start from scratch.
I don’t know what I have but some parts of my life have to be 100% perfect and it kind of annoys me when they aren’t, others, which is the vast majority, I don’t care about.
For instance, my character list has to be in level order, it really bugs me when it isn’t, but my washing bag can be a real mess and I don’t care.
Honestly I kind of feel you on this one, op. I made the mistake of leveling almost all classes to max and they’re now in various states of “raid ready”, but I ended up playing almost none of them. WoW classes and races are super niche, for me it’s really hard to stick to just one character when every class, spec and race is so one-dimensional and narrow when it comes to flavour. A druid is always the most naturiffic natural naturalist there ever was, a warlock is always evil, and so on. Like, I just can’t imagine my warlock being a kind person, but what if I’m in a kind mood that day? It feels illogical to play her then.
I use my bank alt as a “bookmark” in my character list, and put all the unused characters under her, current projects above her. It’s not perfect, but it’s the closest I’ve managed to think of so far.
Character-bound achievements would be nice as well as the ability to permanently remove characters from an account.
I’m very particular about organizing and labeling everything in my life, as well as keeping order and following numerical sequences.
When it comes to games it means one character per account or game, exploration and quests must follow a certain path and chronological order I determine beforehand, quests and achievements must be completed on certain dates and in certain order, and if any of this gets messed up then the character is permanently tainted and will be deleted.
If the tainted character’s progress and achievements can not be removed from the account then the account will be considered tainted and is abandoned.
That sounds like me but even more extreme! I definitely need to play a game with a nice clean playthrough! The more I play the more aware I become of how cleaner things would be if I started form scratch smh…
I think I’m the same altough I don’t delete/undelete them.
I have many alts and It would be nice to be able to hide the characters that I don’t want to use at the moment.
I purge my list at least once a month, fill it back up with alts I don’t want, purge again… I even tried to do 1 character only once, that didn’t last long. It just gets overwhelming and messy I’ve started to create them on other realms.
I’m exactly the same. In fact, it’s how I’ve learned so many games. I start a character, get so far, delete, start again using the knowledge I’ve gained, get a bit further, delete… you see where this goes!
I find it’s not only great for, as I said, learning the game, but it’s also fun. To me anyway.
I’ve deleted more WoW characters than I can remember to be honest! I don’t like seeing them just sitting there no longer used either!
