About experiencing the story from scratch

Hey everyone, I do not know if this was asked before, I tried digging for more information, as of now haven’t found that much useful stuff. I decided that in the future I would like to start playing WOW again. Last time my friends dragged me into it and together it was fun, but they all moved on and I realized that while I rushed through the expansions to get to level 120 (BFA) I have no memories about the story as a whole or per expansion at all.

Yes I know I could look it up on YouTube, or from other websites, but I would rather play the game, do as many quests related as possible stuff like that. I have read somewhere that Shadowlands changed leveling and that you are “forced” kind of into an expansion to get to level 50 from 10 or something like that (I could 100% be wrong only saw 1-2 posts).

So I started thinking what if I buy a max level boost, create a new character, and use the level advantage to go through the old content in order Classic, TBC, etc. (for an Alliance and a Horde character) to get myself up to speed. Yes I won’t possess gear equal to my max level but that does not bother me plus eventually I will reach the current expansion. And now the question itself, being level 60 do I still have to start BFA or Shadowlands before the game will let me go wherever I want to or max level players are not forced to start an expansion?

Or if I make a new character and start playing, eventually reach 10 can I choose Vanilla to level till 50 and after that let’s say I boost to 60 and then continue with the old stuff is it possible?

If anyone could give me an explanation about all this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Think this guide answers all you need to know. From my experience you can do whatever zone you like till 50 then it’s SL time.
