Jesus. If Warcraft had one thing that did excellent, that was trailers. Epic. Just that. The last two official cinematic trailers for Dragonflight and now War Within are just not wow at all. Where did all the talent of the past go? Event the art style of the game seems so generic the last 2-3 expansions. No character at all. Bland zones, shapes and colors.
That last cinematic is like asking ChatGPT - “Hey, make me a montage of cool shots from Diablo 4”. Even the Paladin girl looks like that priestess from Diablo 4 trailer. Zero effort. Zero hype. At this point i really hope Microsoft adds in the mix another studio for Warcraft development, just in hope of seeing something more exciting.
I wonder what “epic” you found in Shadowlands cinematics, the biggest derogatory spit on WoW lore and lore lovers to please a small group of Sylvanas fanboys, just as that entire petty expansion. Epic failure perhaps.
Dragonflight launch cinematic wasn’t epic, which was fine by me, after all that vane pseudo-epicness of all SL trailers, having a grounded, adventure filled cinematic felt quite nice. And if you exclude that silly, out of place cut of evoker, the movie had one narrative line of dragonriding features, which felt both consistent and thrilling, apart of that artificial sappy friendship between dwarf and troll (I’d rather see them fighting each other until Raz shows up and slaps them both lol).
TWW cinematics felt underwhelming to me too, disjointed and feeling like it doesn’t quite belong to Warcraft Universe:
no idea what that stony dwarf (at least I recognized him as WoW related earthen) was doing at the forge and why he was doing it alone.
what on earth does that Avatar 3 creature have to do with WoW whatsoever?
that human, which we were told is a paladin, didn’t feel like a paladin at all, didn’t feel even like a WoW human, more like a woke Hollywood star, preparing for some woky Star Wars.
We know nerubians since Warcraft 3, and yet if I haven’t read about season 1 lore, I am not sure I would recognize that city and that arachnid face as true Warcraft nerubians.
If anything, the Arathi armless warrior woman gave a strong vibes I almost fel like she was gonna start singing: “I’m the strong one, I’m not nervous, I’m as tough as…”
On a more serious note, the budget for cinematics was one of the things that got cut obviously, hence why we got this, barely a cinematic, more like few cgi stills.
Guys AI is about repetition of old content, recycled shapes colours and style and Blizzard idd is trying to reach new players with their way of how they are creating trailers. I can say from my opinion that the new trailer is generic, unpleasant and lifeless. Most of these characters shown in the new trailer are art style wise from Diablo Universe. ‘’ Waves to Diablo team of WoW ‘’. Let’s see, i know you can step it up more closer to WoW. Metzen in the other hand has distinctive art style that the players are not familiar with. It’s more rough for current WoW users. Metzen has his art online if you want to check it.
What is Avatar’s NAVI race doing in here? We have awesome looking trolls. Use their models.
The black woman reminds me of Reverend Mother Prava from D4 and the armour is like the one the knights of Cathedral of Light wear.
Why not use something more WoW related?
The moment I saw the black woman I thought here we go again some DEI is being forced on me
Easy. It demonstrated three different characters/groups preparing for war against the common enemy and all of them seemingly had their own wars to fight… within.
Change in Cinematic Director. The former one left the studio a few years ago.
Was probably luxury (or impossible) to get Xala’taths voice actress to also voice it for the people that don’t rewatch a cinematic 10 times to analyze it on the deepest level.
Like, what not-diehard fan of WoW would watch and deduct it like a science experiment?
