Interesting question this raises, do insects go to the Shadowlands?
There are spider people in maldraxus so yes i think they do if they are sentient.
Amber Kearnan, from SI:7, is alleged to be an arachno-humanoid in the area around Sepulcher of Knowledge… but whether it IS her is not clear.
Nerubians, however… that’s another thing.
The spider people are just a form taken though, Amber Kearnen from Cata/Mists/Legion (alliance sniper) is in Maldraxxus as one named Kearnen the blade. If you’re a rogue I believe she confirms it’s her.
I don’t know whether the insectoid races of Azeroth would go there or anywhere else given they are (in essence) beings borne of void, first descended from the Aqir. In a roundabout way it’s like asking whether N’raqi (faceless) go to the Shadowlands as well, which seems an odd question as I’d imagine they don’t. They may be sentient and somewhat individual enough but I’d imagine they return to the void or just don’t go anywhere. Particularly given all of them (the insectoid races, that are alive) serve the Old Gods/void with a fervent devotion, so it’s not like any covenant would really want them.
Maybe they just get chucked in the maw? Given the void appears able to intercede into the SL (Bastion) my guess is Nerubians, Mantid, Qiraji and Aqir return to the void.
I mean we’re not even sure they possess souls tbh. The fact that undead ones all served the LK with no hint of variation suggests to me it’s plausible they don’t, which would mean there’s nothing to rebel against the LKs control.
Even when the LK power waining in TFT, where other undead rebelled (forsaken) the Nerubians all remained devout.
Tbh this is a really interesting question I think (Altash question about insects/assumed insectoid races). Brings up a lot of other questions.
As long as the encounter isnt the same, sure… xD
I think, like the Old Gods, their “spawns” (after all, both the n’raqi and the aqir arose from the organic matter that seeped from the Old Gods’ massive bodies) are out of the Cycle as they said
And there must be some truth in that; several C’Thraxxi died… but got better. In some cases it took several millenia, but they regenerated death itself. Some times rituals and a lil’ help speeded up the process
Most of the servants last words are “I travell to Ny’alotha” and… they actually did.
The Nerubians are interesting tho’; basically the only evolved aqir “sub race” that cut their connection and in a sense reanounced their alligance to their masters
The Mantid remained loyal to the Old Gods, even after their God, Y’Shaarj was destroyed by Aman’Thul right before their very eyes (worth to mention tho’, even Y’Shaarj are not a confoirmed kill, destroyed, ripped apart, then the heart was consumed… yet, there is that little quest in the Island Expedition with the wrigling mass that hints… he is slowly gathering himself together and eventually returns) and the Qiraji showed 0 will to be free or anything
But the Nerubian… built a whole empire basically right on top of their god and… did nothing to help Yogg-Saron. Even waged a little war against the Faceless Ones and a Forgotten One and that costed them of the War of the Spiders.
Maybe their connection/roots made them immune to the Plague, but became independent from them to not to be immune to Necromancy,
Among these old god races only the Nerubians were raised
There are no undead Mantid nor Qiraji, (or C’Thraxxi, or Zoatroids, or K’thir, or Faceless or Forgotten Ones…) just undead Nerubians…
…and Anub’Arak was brought back twice
So there are some hope we see the old guy
Even the “waste” of the old writers is better than whatever they can come up with nowadays.
Aboob’rak you say ? Tell me more…
That would actually be interesting indeed. Not only story wise, for its time Anub was quite interesting boss fight (for being ToGC, the raid itself was quite dull) and I can see how the fight could be modernized. Back then Anub could definitely be considered as a today “ordinary” mythic boss given it had quite a lot of mechanics compared to other non-end raid bosses, despite being a 2 phase boss it included things for all roles to handle something.
Those spiders use to be humanoids.
One of them use to be a human rogue from the SI:7
Agree with much of what you said, but I don’t think the Nerubians did renounce their ties to the Old Gods…when interacting with the Nerubian questgivers outside Azjol-Nerub it’s very clear they still worship the Old Gods - in Ahn’kahet you have a Faceless One right at the end of the dungeon with the Twilight’s Hammer being drawn to AK, so it’s very clear “void stuff” was still very much on their menu - whether this transpired to loyalty to yogg-saron is another question altogether.
This is the thing with the agents of the void - loyalty to a particular figure isn’t necessarily a sign of anything. For a starting point, the Old Gods are all proxies of the Void, so essentially it “doesn’t really matter” whether they recognise one or another depending on how deep in the Void they are. Secondarily, the agents are typically mad, so it’s perfectly plausible that the Nerubians were still fervantly worshipping Yogg (if he is even their old god of choice) whilst doing nothing to help him, because they may well have believed/known/prophecised (as tends to happen with the Void, as we have seen) that adventurers will cut his form down, but ultimatley it will do nothing to stem his influence or is perhaps of a “bigger picture” type deal. So in this respect they do nothing because they may believe it needed to happen.
We musn’t also take the tendency of the agents of the Void to war amongst themselves (such as Neruians attacking the Faceless) as a sign they abandoned their faith. Conversely in the first instance of the original black empire the Old Gods fought amongst themselves constantly and the Aqir and N’raqi constantly fought each other. Being agents of chaos and madness, it is in the nature of the Old Gods (and Void) to fight itself like this. As Locus Walker says “To the Void everything is true and everything is a lie” so it’s perfectly plausible the Nerubians simply thought the Faceless were false agents they needed to cut down. Maybe. Maybe they fought simply because they’re both a bit mad.
It’s speculation but I think it’s somewhat plausible.
Regarding lack of Undead Mantid/Qiraji/Zoatroids etc, I think in these cases it may well be as simple as the living variants of these races have never really exposed themselves to being victims of necromancy in the same way the Nerubians have. The Qiraji reside in the far south where there was never any concerted necromantic forces. The Mantid have encountered the Mogu, whom did wield necromancy but whether they wielded it on a large scale such as resurrecting enemies remains to be seen (there is no record of them doing such against the Pandaren for example, or when conquering their foes), so it may well be they opted not to use it. The Zoatroids are deep in the Ocean far from the auspices and attention of necromantic magic.
Conversely the Nerubians unfortunately happened to be on the continent where the Lich King was plopped so of course they were prime targets.
I do feel that the Aqir are fundementally different from the others being the “proto form” of these insectoid life forms, but I don’t think Nerubians (aside from their physiological differences) are fundementally different from the Qiraji or the Mantid. I just think they happened to fall victim to unfortunate circumstances. This is just my opinion though.
So you can chose how you look in maldraxus ?! Is there like a build a bear shop or is it more a “i wish to look like this” and poof you do kinda thing
Abomination stichmasters are exactily for that
During the covenant fetature, you talk with souls, what kind of body they would like to have… running in for ? Bladed hands? Etc.
So yes.
Lady Vashj mentions during a gossip, she remained naga not returned to her original Highborne model, because the Naga Vasjh is who is, who she were in the last ten millenium, but it was her choice to look like that
I know that but i still dont understand why can some souls just wish the look they want and the others have to possess a flesh golem. Or did vash and the spooders build their bodies too ?
Well, their modell is a bit skeletal, I mean Vajsh have sekeltal tail, hands, but the face is the same, and the spider people I guess since they are spies, chose to be look like spiders (spiders on the wall, webs, many eyes, fitting)
So yes, they porbably had a body built for them, since ther soul… well… soul shaped in their default form, they need to be “refined” to be blue kyrian (then ascended , winged), skeletal or abomination like, sired to be a venthry or soulshape in ardenweald
Why someone would want to look like an abomination or spider or a lich in Maldraxxus? Because war is in its purest form, just bodies against bodies, flesh and weapons, no point to be beautiful (except if you want to look like something for a reason, like Vasjh or the spider people) but built for war, literally, living (deadm wahetver) warmachines (if you familiar with Vamire: The Masquarade, Maldarxxus is Tzimisce hevaen, and they made their vhozd and szaltcha warghouls to be monsters for the same reason)
You want bone armor, spikes, built in wapons, or your body is just… a vessel, in the case of the liches, their power is in their magic, they don’t need a body, a sekelton will do, if its destroyed, they grow a new one from the phylactery… why bother to be something fancy?
