Abusing the report feature

Nobody wants pet battle booster.

Well the function is called “Report spam” or alike. And that is as subjective as it may come. There is no check like “does the reported text fit the following criteria; …”.

Repeating the exact same message over and over (regardless of the interval) can easily be seen as spamming.

Other players apparently disagree with you. Adjust your actions accordingly, I’d say.

If we had social justice, that’d be the case, however, we have a system of individual justice. Numbers don’t dictate who is right or wrong within individual justice, it’s the actions that dictate it. A group of ten people can rob a house of someone who lives alone, doesn’t mean that they did not commit a crime.

But you have the tools to take care of that. Blizzard gave you those tools. It’s called customizing your chat UI. It’s a very much possible thing to do. In any big server, trade chat is going to be flooded, regardless if there are boosters or not.

In this case, I am 100% confident that I’m the good guy here, as again, I was not spamming, I was not breaking the ToS, I’m playing on argent dawn so a minimum of 150 seconds pause between pressing my macro is completely fine with how fast trade chat is rolling… Again, individual justice. If I was actually spamming, then fine, mute me, but I wasn’t.

Here’s a hot take: how do you feel about people just chatting about whatever in Trade Chat, or advertising guilds in trade chat? Because that has nothing to do with trading at all. Should they be soft-banned for distrupting trade chat?

They can do that by fixing up their report system, as right now, it just feeds people’s ego, whenever they can falsely report someone, and get them silenced.

In the group finder. Not in trade chat. Do you know why Group Finder is called Group Finder? Because it was made so you can find groups. Not partaking in trading. Crazy, right?

I am not, however, it’s still Blizzard’s job to regulate who gets banned or not, not you, or your community. It’s within the ToS. There are cases where the ToS is unfair, or plain up stupid, in that case the community has to raise it’s voice, so that Blizzard can change that. However, boosting has it’s rules, and has it’s place within the ToS. Advertise in trade chat, don’t spam, don’t harass, only do it for gold. Do these, and you’ll be just fine, except if some triggered people spamreport you.

Then why aren’t guild adverts reported on trade chat? There is a community bias here towards boosters. For one customer, you have 3 triggered people.

There is actually.

However, boosting has it’s rules, and has it’s place within the ToS. Advertise in trade chat, don’t spam, don’t harass, only do it for gold.

Pressing my macro every 3-5 minutes on Argent Dawn, where the trade chat is always flooded is not spam.

I will adjust if the ToS gets changed. Just because some people don’t like the fact that legit boosters are selling their service within the ToS, I won’t change what I do within the game, so that they can sleep in peace. Goldmaking is a huge part of the game, and it’s a huge part of what I do within the game. Being barred from my most favorite goldmaking tool, which is boosting, is runing my gameplay experience, especially because I was barred unjustly.

No there is not. Those are the rules for boosting (which even contains “don’t spam”) - not for “how to use the report-spam function”.

“Don’t spam” is still open for interpretation, that you do not consider it spam does not mean that nobody else does either nor that it actually isn’t spam

Perhaps they are if they do it like you do? Who knows who gets muted and who is not.

Garosh did nothing wrong.

Yes, I have customized my chat. Trade chat is disabled. Because of you. Stop coming up with silly excuses. Your entire community is cancer. You try with these “real world analogies”… mate, your entire community is the equivalent of a band of idiots just walking on my street and screaming 24/7. I don’t care if you personally screamed a lot or only once every 3-5 minutes, I will do anything I can to deal with your entire community. The entire community is the problem. And you can’t expect sympathy or approval when you’re part of a community that walks around ruining the game for other people and acting as if nothing is happening. It is your choice whether to ally yourself with the boosting community or not, and from that point on you deal with the consequences that brings.

I would suggest you to leave it be.

I mean, I am against boosting advertisement on LFG tools and report them every single time, but Imo trade chat is fair.

I don’t really see what’s so different about someone spamming “WTS X Mats” or “WTS Curve”

But community always have a strange perception regarding Booster so I doubt you will find anyone that sympathize for you here.

Blizzard should simply create a place where people can put they boosting advertise so everyone is happy.

If people see it as spam, its spam.

Good luck with adjusting your actions towards the ToS :man_facepalming:

I mean, it’s in the name ‘advertisement’ ?
Where else are guilds going to advertise? I’d rather they do it in trade chat than getting unsolicited whispers/invites.

You personally may not spam, but the boost ads are perceived as spam because nobody who gets annoyed by them is checking who is writing them. All they (we) see is yet another boost ad and they’re too many. It’s most likely nothing personal, you were just the proverbial final straw that broke the donkey’s back.

Making topics about this is pointless because of the duality of this subject.
Best thing Blizzard can do to please both groups is to make boost channel so anyone wanting boosts has a place to go and everybody else can simply avoid it and still enjoy other kinds of trading.

Thats exactly what everyone should do.REPORT EVERY ONE OF THEM!!Everybody gets silenced minimum a day.And the next day report again and again.

But then if we get to mute people ourselves based on your own personal feelings, then how can we filter out those who are not actually spamming? You can advertise something in trade chat, and not have it be spam, if you are not flooding the chat with it, especially when there are thousands of people who use trade chat at the same time.

My point was that guild advertisement is not a trading advertisement.

You can create a new window for trade chat, and I’m sorry that people who want to trade hurt your feelings.

I do, but you are not responding at all.

I’m still waiting for you to answer my question regarding how boosters ruin the game. That way I could actually respond to you, and have a proper debate.

I know, don’t worry about that. Just like irl, some people don’t like the fact that I’m introverted. You can be hated and disliked for literally nothing, and that is fine. What is not fine is when you are being punished for something you didn’t do.

Again, I agree, but not because it makes sense (because boosting IS trading), but because it would get rid of a lot of the community hatred towards boosters.

They have general chat for that. And just to clear it up, I’m not against guild advertisers, I’m just trying to draw a comparison here. I don’t care if they are using trade chat.

I guess you have a point, then again, trade chat is always going to be flooded with offers that you are not interested in. It’s the nature of any trade chat, in any game.

That is exactly what I have done. And I never check it. I told you - your community has destroyed trade chat. Quit being pathetic and own up to the actions of the community you want to partake in.

The problem is a faulty system, not the players using it. So we should not punish the ones who consider it spam, we need a system that actually works.

The you’ll probably continue getting reported. :man_shrugging:

But then if I don’t advertise boosting, then I’m still locked out of that goldmaking opportunity, as… I have no customers. So I’m not moving forward, at all.

Which is what I suggested in this very post: develop a filter that parses your chat logs if you were reported for no-no stuff, and then punish you if said no-no stuff was found. And if there was nothing found, but you were reported lots of times, then have a GM handle the case.

Still not answering my questions or making any new points  And I’m still wondering how trading has ruined trade chat.

So how about starting a nice boosting community. And get people interested in boosting to join that.

Advertising a community would probably cause less irritation, maybe?

I’d still have to advertise it, which would make the already very steep hill to climb even steeper. And I’d also like to continue being a private booster.

Then again, I guess that could be a temporary solution.

Dunno about you but I quit /Trade to not see boosters.
Any that still keep spamming their copy-paste scam advertisement on /General get a report for Spam from me.

Use the /Trade for it.

The thing is, you by yourself may not be “flooding chat” with it but you and the other dozen boost sellers who are competing with each other and posting your adverts concurrently every 2.5 minutes are “flooding chat” and that is what people are getting fed up with.

That is why you are getting reported and muted as spam, because as a group you are spamming the chat, you are blocking joe bloggs from selling his mount or cloth away from the AH and are blocking conversations from carried out and followed.

Three or four boost sellers with adverts of three lines that post concurrently = 9-12 lines of chat blocked every 2 - 2.5 minutes. Ask yourself why people might be looking at that as spam…

Bet it’s even worse on Alliance AD too.
