Accidental WoW Token Purchase

Hi guys.

Long story short, sold a boe, got a lot of gold, clicked the wow token tab to check the current prices of the tokens, accidentally clicked the red ‘buy’ button. Within 1 second this token lands in my bags and 230k gold disappears.

I’m sat here like wtf just happened. I contact the game master and there’s nothing they can do whatsoever.

With this token I can now either add gametime (pointless as I just pay per month anyway, and have done for 13 years). Or add £10 to my ‘blizzard balance’.

Seeing as it’s £17 for a wow token to get the 230k back, that means it will COST ME £7 to correct this mess…

My biggest complaint is WHY IS THERE NO CONFIRMATION BOX?

Patch 8.2.5: - “Auction House purchases over 50,000 gold now require players to confirm the purchase in a dialogue box.” The confirmation box is in place to prevent you from accidentally purchasing items, which have been put on the Auction House for riduculous amounts of gold.

This is coming, so why do I have to pay extra money now and be a victim of this stupidity? Granted I clicked the buy button accidentally, fair enough, but it’s a genuine mistake, and for a genuine mistake there’s nothing that can be done!

I’ve been a loyal customer and player for all this time and they can’t gift me the extra, give me a goodwill gesture, literally nothing.

So I now have to credit myself £7 on my account, but guess what? there’s a £10 minimum amount of credit! genius!

And they’re rolling in millions…

#facepalm

When I accidentally bought a WoW Token on the wrong character (wrong faction), I opened a ticket and they removed the token from my inventory and issued a refund.

I bought the token with real money and not with gold, so perhaps there is some policy difference. If so, that sucks.

Yeah, that makes sense. It would suck if the person who received the gold for the token had it taken away because someone else made a mistake, which is why they probably can’t do anything about it in his case.
It’s unfortunate, but it’s just how it is. Can you resell them again, or is it now bound to you?

There is a confirmation for any IRL money purchase including the token. It would seem logical to add at least a pop up confirming you want to do this with gold purchases for things like tokens too.

Hopefully filing a ticket can resolve your issue.

As long as he does nothing with his token in other words if doesant activate it then he can ask for a refund and urge them because unopened token is like having a receit attached to the product.

Best advice is : try again and/or appeal the decision. They can easily see when you bought the token and when you asked for the refund (assuming you did so very shortly after).

I am sure by insisting you will get this to work.

I think thats the problem, the OP bought it with gold from someone who bought it with money, and whereas I believe it is a genuine mistake, from Blizzard’s viewpoint it could be viewed as a gold making scam which may explain why they’re not all that keen on refunding the OP’s gold.

Blizz gonna put a conformation window in the next patch for items cost more than 50k gold, so thats probably helpfull to avoid situations like this.

I doubt they will refund it. Are they suddenly taking away gold from the person who sold it? What if that person already spent the gold?

Can’t you just resell the token on the Auction House?

No, u cant sell the tokens u buy on AH, they can only be used to add gametime or battlenet balance.

That sucks. They should give you the option to resell tokens. :frowning:

They should not refund anything.Just be careful dude.

This is simply not true. You get the token mailed to you.

I might be cynical here, but I think you’re not telling us the truth. I think you made an impulse purchase and you regret it afterwards. Anyway… you’ll live. It’s only gold. Just add the balance to your account and maybe you can get something cool with it some day.

Thanks for all the replies and support, I decided to just add credit and buy 2 wow tokens from the shop to get me back to where I wanted to be, luckily the £10 credit added to blizzard balance you get from the in-game token purchase CAN be used towards a wow token purchased through the store.

Unfortunately @Tahra, I am telling the truth hence bothering to actually make this post in the first place. If I had made an ‘impulse’ purchase, I would have accepted I was at fault and accepted the consequences, when you buy a wow token from the auction house in-game, the token isn’t actually mailed to you, it literally appears in your bag instantly. When you sell a token purchased through the store, you put that onto the auction house, wait for it to sell and the gold is mailed to you.

Like others have said, I am hoping the implementation of the confirmation box for bigger purchases should make a difference to others and myself in future, but I am disappointed to still know that ultimately there is nothing Blizzard could do or wanted to do to help me in this case.

Then you have my apologies.

Odd, a little over 2 weeks ago I definitely had to pick up my token bought on AH from my mailbox.

A quick look at the FAQs would appear to suggest that yours and Tahra’s recollections are indeed correct.

Visit the Auction House and use your hard-earned gold to purchase one of the WoW Tokens another player has put up for sale. Once the Token arrives in your in-game mailbox, right-click it to add it to your bag, then right-click again to add either 30 days of game time, or redeem it for Blizzard Balance to be added to your account.
