“I am fairly certain that World of Warcraft is at an all time high player count across its entire lifetime.
The number of players in China playing WOTLK is on par with the highest retail peak we’ve ever seen in WCL’s lifetime.
Then add in SoD and The War Within on top of that.”
I belive it, WoW is a huge vibe and still the best mmorpg out there since all those years. From Classic Era to Classic Hardcore, from Classic Wotlk/Catacylsm to Retail, game offers a lot of WoW content type for every mmorpg fans out there. You can say a lot of things about this game, all those negative comments but you can’t change the fact that WoW still rules and will be still leading for years to come. Look at all these upcoming mmos, none of them shines at all.
Believable. Wide net catches more fish, but I couldn’t care less how many people are playing WoTLK China. In fact the less that play it the better, as their numbers might start effecting the gameplay or monetisation of retail, like how after Classic’s success the devs decided to implement Covenants in Shadowlands and make them extremely restrictive because “da player choice!! its just like how you were a dwarf priest or an undead mage back in vanilla guyz!!”
Considering all the different versions of the game that is available now, and that TWW is about to start its first season, I think it sounds plausible.
Well if WoW playernumbers are mostly driven by wotlk and its classic versions maybe its time to shut down retail or atleast spent more resources on more popular versions then just wasting it on retail.
If Blizzard hit over their biggest peak of active accounts/players, they would publicly announce it to the world as a big FU to Square Enix and to try and get even more people coming back to the game.
i went back and did the heavily nerfed version in DF for some achs, and even then it took me around a month and about 200 hours of gameplay plus the 150k anima i had saved up while playing in SL just to get through the achievements necessary for a mount. i didnt even do all of them, and i’ve collected maybe 20% of the available cosmetics. the sheer amount of farming you’d need to do to finish them is enough to gaurantee i will never do it
but it was so cool it was just like vanilla guys!! remember when you couldn’t get into any onyxia groups because you made the mistake of leveling a night elf priest, so you spent a month rerolling to dwarf priest for fear ward??? woahhh so cool, just like vanilla, very fun!
