Account access lost

i just have a question about an account i can no longer log into. i have not used it for over a year and i get " couldn’t verify " message when i try to log into it.

to my knowledge there has been no changes to the password and no activity have taken place on my account. ( characters still have the same gear e.g ) it has just been locked?

so i wonder, before i go through the process of contacting blizzard, could anyone here tell my about that accounts status if i give a character on it?
