Account Name Change due to transition

So, it’s June, it’s Pride Month, and Chromie is the latest trans icon!

Time to put your money where your mouth is!

First up, I am a transwoman. I started playing WoW as a means to control my dysphoria. Since then, I have fully transitioned.

I reported to Games Masters that my WoW Account (pre-Battlenet) is in my deadname. After being batted around a few Games Masters who gave me the usual Blizzard blurb (we can’t do anything), I received this response.

*> This is Game Master Llosayar, I wanted to take some time and write to you and let you know I truly appreciate your patience in these times, and what I could do for you. *
*> *
> In the words of my people, Bal’a dash, malanore.
*> *
*> I greatly appreciate our communities’ efforts in not only discovering but also reporting areas within our games that need improvements or updates in which helps to create the most Epic experiences possible. *
*> *
> These reports help make sure you and all players are able to enjoy their time within our Games as much as possible! And with that being said, there has never been a way to change a Wow account name since the launch of wow; but that doesn’t mean we cant get something like this changed!
*> *
> (っ- ‸ -)っ
*> *
> Change is what keeps the wheels moving, and sometimes the mark is missed so change needs to occur, it’s always for the best.
*> *
*> So give us a shout out here: *

> We can not guarantee a direct response but since there is no way possible to get this ticket to anyone on the Development team, but since they do read the forums; Posting on the forums and gaining momentum on this is a way other players can lend their voice and show our Development team a change like this is truly needed.

> If you have any other questions or concerns come up, me and my brigade of Game Masters will be here to help! If you are all set, sweet! If you do need more help with this same issue just click on the ticket and reply!

So, here I am, pleading with Games Developers, who apparently inhabit this shadowy realm, to change the programming to allow me to change me WoW save file.

It is not enough for a company to say that they are pro-LGBT; even the most basic of companies can raise a Pride flag. But truly dedicated companies do what is necessary to support the community.

It is a small ask, but it would do so much for my dysphoria, and I am sure for the dysphoria of the many transgender gamers who still play the game.

Please x

If you changed your legal name, Blizzard will follow suit:

They won’t lift a finger otherwise, sadly, no matter how much momentum you may build, especially when you do that in EU, while they’re an US company.

I don’t want my account security compromised because of this I’m afraid. There is a reason they need to have your legal name for security purposes/account recovery.

As the person above said , If you legally change your name then Blizzard happily changes it for you if you provide them offcial proof.

I don’t mean to sound like I’m interfering in your business and you don’t have to answer me but if your real life name change was so important that you want to change it in a game why don’t you do the change offcially? It’s really easy and doesn’t take long to go through.

That might or might not be the case. There are countries that do not legally recognise transitioning, so you can’t legally change name, unless you relocate.

No, they won’t.

I have legally changed my name, and my Blizzard account is in my name.

However, the issue is in my save file. Apparently, my account is pre-battlenet, so the save file is literally my deadname, and everytime I log on, there it is.

I am sure I am not the only one, and it surely wouldn’t take that much work to create a backdoor where Blizzard could change that.

Ah, I see!

A costly workaround might be to create another account, and transfer your chars over there, and then delete the old one? That does cost a lot of money (or gold), and I’m not sure if you end up loosing something, but at least it gets rid of the deadname.

Ah after reading it for a bit what is reffered to is the “WoW account name” nowadays WoW1, WoW2, in the past its realname. Sometimes players have come to ask if theirs could be changed but the requests are few and far inbetween.

Your best bet would be to submit a suggestion ingame or a tweet towards Warcraftdevs, but this isn’t something that CS can do anything with.

The old (pre-battlenet) account name could be choosen freely as long as it was not in use so it didn’t have to be a real name.

Sending suggestion and trying to get attention in a social media are probably the best ways to influence Blizzard to develop way to change the account names but I suspect it won’t be happening quickly even if they decide to start developing the feature instantly.

I have mentioned this to the Games Masters, but they are not prepared to do it as a goodwill gesture.

I guess the other solution is to find a different game to play. It is not like there aren’t plenty out there nowadays.
