I have a dream. A dream of shared reputation between my characters.

The way I see it working, is in one of two ways: Either it will only be available to share after you’ve hit exalted, or it’s shared from the get go, but you can’t get reputation from quests more than once - meaning if you complete some normal quests on Character A, you can’t go and do them on Character B and get reputation again, or go and do dailies on A, get reputation, and do the same on B. The second option means you can farm reputation on different characters if you wish it, whereas the first one locks you to the character you started on, unless you want to start from scratch on a new one. The reputation will be unlocked when you hit max level for that expansion, so if Character A is exalted with The Frenzyheart Tribe, Character B will be exalted with them as well, when they hit level 80. The current expansion reputations shouldn’t be shared until a new expansion is released.

I also think you should be able to opt out of it if you don’t want to have it on a character, so something should pop up and ask you whether you want to share reputation with the other characters or not, the first time you log in. If you opt out of it in the beginning, you can choose to share it later on, but after you’ve decided for it to be shared, you can’t “un-share” it. An option I think is important, so this isn’t forced on anyone - and since it’s old content reputation, it won’t hurt anyone if it’s shared (unless it’s someone that want everyone else to be miserable with them, because they’re stubborn about it).I have a dream. I agree, because for me long term grinds are single time things I would never do again anyway, but they prevent me from playing alts, because my alts aren’t felt complete. It’s common “main only vs alts” problem, Blizzard can’t or don’t want to understand. But, I guess, real reason, why they don’t do it - is technical limitation. Battle.net server and game servers we play on - are actually different servers. To allow account-wide things they would need to sync much more data between game servers and Battle.net server. And they just don’t want to do it.

Account-wide reputation

Sure, after you hit 100 reputation exalted. That would be achievement that will unlock reputation shared across all your characters.

Every expansion that cap would increase, i think that is reasonable.

That’s a horrible idea. Imagine creating a new char (or for all I care: dinging 60) and being instantly exalted with 50+ factions? ‘Jobs done’ of the WC3 peon comes to mind.

i like the renown token they will sell in 9.1.5 for 500 g for alts.

if i have exalted on main i want to be able to purchase a recommendation letter for my alt and get revered with it, basically -1 tier reputation should be good enough balance between doing same amount of work on every alt and acc wide.

Agreed,

Everything in the game including rep should be shared.
Soulbound items should be Account Bound.
For too many years it’s been a mess.

Achievements some shared some character locked.
Reps per character.
Gear some account bound, some BoE some SB.
Currencies, some tradable, some locked to a character, some shared Account Bound.

Blizz needs to decide how they view players, is it the player that gets the rewards or on a per character basis for everything.

Both could work so yeah why not. At least both option save us from ACC wide character progression and that’s the issue I would initially have with ACC wide reps ('cuz blizz loves to tie progression with rep grinds lately).

Big nope. We’re still here to play and progress our characters, not our accounts.

The only progress alts should need to do is hitting level 60 and gearing, because that’s the only fun type of progress.

Grinding rep is something nobody enjoys doing multiple times on alts. Same with currencies. Same with mandatory quests.

Seriously though, I’m not going to farm exalted for factions like Netherwing, Oracles, Brood of Nozdormu, WINTERSABER TRAINERS or the Hydraxxians more than once in my life, so they could at least make those account-wide. There’s not much in for any alt doing them again anyways. Once exalted with Netherwing, you’ll have your Nether dragons accountwide for example. Other exalted achievements like mounts, toys or pets are accountwide, too. And some hard to grind factions don’t give anything worth wasting time at all anymore, so why make it a pain for players like me, who switched main at one point, to farm exalted again and again just because we would like to have all rep bars green with one char instead of two or three?

I would love if they unlocked reputation to be account wide once an expansion is no longer the current one. I guess some might work their way through each rep with every char to get things but I’m only doing that stuff on my main.

And? Where is the horrible bit? It’s not like faction have meaningful rewards or item right now, every item of gear they sell it’s so low level that is pointless, and everything else is just cosmetic.
So where is the issue? Some rpg concern in a game that is everyday less rpg?

I agree with this. But I think it is better to have all rep-gated features be account wide rather than the rep itself.
I would make all or most items sold by a faction quartermaster, especially recipes, would be BoA. All content unlocked by a rep would be unlocked account wide.

This means there is no need to grind a rep again for recipes or to access a new zone but if you want to grind it again you can.

Its way to easly abusable. You could just log in your 50 chars do some quest on all of what rewards high rep and instanly be exalted You would have to start caping reps account wide. Current reps are not even mandatory and you dont need them on alts.

yes please, my main was a paladin for three expansions, then I changed to a Warrior, and now I’m a DK, it’s an absolute mess

Atm its even more pain to start from 0/neutral.

Thats why i suggested a “recommendation letter” token to get your alts up to revered if you have exalted.
From neutral to revered is 3+6+12=21k reputation and from revered to exalted its 21k. So that “letter” token is a real middle ground.

Principal changes like these must be done very gently cause there is always another side of story, players who want it to not be account wide for some reason and its better to slowly win them other than just slam over their heads acc wide rep update. Imho

Alternatively, you ding at max level complete all of the story quests and still get told you’re not worthy for them until you do a bunch of boring WQs.

Maybe you are but I am not. I play my account and couldn’t care less about the individual characters. Modern WoW needs more account wide options it is not 2004 anymore.

Aah, okay, misread that kind of. Thought there was a recommendation letter already to get revered. Sorry, I’m stuck in layouts and formats rn reading proof two books at a time to make sure everything’s standardized. :disappointed:

That’s why I suggested to maybe make your typical hard grind factions account wide. You have one or two of them in every expansion. Like the magram / gelkis clan in Classic, Netherwing / Ogri’la in BC, Oracles / Frenzyheart in WotLK. No one does that stuff anymore.

Sure would be good to offer some sort of service to pay with gold for it. But I don’t see why it should be limited to revered. I’ve done the rep achievement and I’ve done it almost 80 times by now. I deserve my exalted rep to show up at all chars imo. And I also deserve to not go through the grind a second time if I do not wish to do so.

Give people a choice whether they personally want to have it account-wide, sure with some sort of token to enable it? Yes. Make factions that came with a rival faction option changeable given an alt wants to join the other side? yes? Limit the account-wide rep status to revered? Big no.

I defo agree because most of rep don’t reward meaningful things like relevant gear, professions patrons. Most are all aboot grinding for mounts.

As much as I’d like to have an account bound reputation I think it will never happen. What i want to see is more items to be made account bound. Here are some examples:

  • Argent gruntling (all 3 options unlocked Bank/AH/Mail box)
  • Argent Crusader’s Tabard
  • Hellscream’s Reach Tabard
  • Time-Lost Artifact
  • Violet Seal of the Grand Magus
  • Band of the Kirin Tor
  • Empowered Ring of the Kirin Tor
  • Wrap of Unity
  • Direbrew’s Remote
