Is there a decent website (not wowhead, to many ads) that has a simple old school guide to things like seasonal achievements or zone chapters etc.

Wowhead is the way to go.
You have to “pay” for good and updated content, and that’s with ADS (which aren’t that many). Or watch youtube videos (with ads) for any achievement you want to know.
Pretty much any other DB is outdated.
You’d like to get paid once you start working too. So pay those who work for you, for “free”. Some ads doesn’t kill anybody.

My issue isnt that wowhead has adverts, my issue is wowhead destroys my browser because of all the addition junk it slaps on pages. Its so bad that i can maybe scroll the top 15% of content then its frozen.
If an advert is worth clicking then ill click it, if it ruins my experience ill avoid it.
You tube from your example is fine, ill watch an advert and either it will or wont capture my attention and that IS fine.
The best guide i have found is zygorguide. You have to pay for it though. But with a bit of creativity im sure you can find the addon for free 
All achievements and mounts or anything for that matter, you can find on that addon.
Wowhead is probably the best site, I don’t have any issue myself but I have an ad blocker.

Adblock some of it, I know Firefox does some adblocking out of the box. But you can always download one for your browser which will help you read wowhead more clearly.
