Accolonn posted a video on YouTube 3 hours ago claiming a Blizzard employee confirmed to him that World of Warcraft now has an active playerbase of 3 million users.
Do you think it’s true? Thoughts?

Could be true. 9.1 is quite new and the content is solid for some weeks. My guild is crowded with around 30 people on raid days.
3 million sounds about right given the patch length even if SL was a failure.

I’m just going off what little information you added. If he has proof / has an actual interview then nevermind me, but I struggle to believe of all people a unknown Blizzard employee leaked the numbers to a small south African youtuber.
As for the claim. Eh, I could believe it. Just don’t like the claim that it is a concrete confirmed number. It’s solid speculation.
Yeah, he didn’t give much info, he just said … “yeah someone from Blizzard told me”.
That’s why I’m skeptical as well.
i dunno. my guess is as good as anybody elses as long as we dont get official numbers.

I wouldn’t say so at all, expansion drop offs, TBCC in a lull, SL hasn’t hit home and the pandemic is over. I’d say that around about correct.
Guild raids alone have around 1 mln of players. So when we add to it pug raiders, m+ players, pvpers and casual players. It definitely may be 3mln+ of active players.
Is it high?
Games like ESO or GW2 got around 300k of active players.
FF14 confirmed that they’ve got 1mln.
So it’s quite good if it comes to WoW.

I’d say FF is a tad higher than that as there a lot like myself who have dormant subs (i.e. not playing but keeping paying) to keep our houses and such.
FF is massive in Japan though, 32 servers in Japan, 12 in EU, 24 in US, all servers hold 5k population and we know queues do occur on most so it doesn’t take much to work out that FF14 is well past 1mil.
Nah, FF14 is right now smaller in Japan than in US. And in EU it’s even smaller than in Japan.
So it’s: US>Japan>Eu.
In Japan this game isn’t so overhyped, they look at it much more critical.
That’s simply not true. Otherwise they’re just running the additional server for giggles?
Also last memo i got (and that one might be heavily outdated) is that PC gaming isnt that attractive in Japan to begin with compared to console gaming.

You can pretty much use calculator here… How many servers do they run ? devide 3M to all servers equally and then look how many players are mid day online

They’ve got more Japan servers because Square is from Japan. It’s simple as that.
No idea if it’s credible. Sounds very healthy if true.
