Add more fun to low-level content

Maybe I’m not the first who tells about this thing, but I tried to use search and found some thoughts that were close, but not as exact as I want to tell.

I am big fan of Warcraft universe, I enjoyed WC3 campaign, but I’m new to WoW, I played a little many years ago, but I’ve never got even 60lvl, and now I’ve finnally got it.

I can’t say anything about high-level content, but I can say about low-level. And main thing I want to say: low-level content has very big lack of fun. I haven’t been rushing, I read the texts of quests, I read adventure guide and all these stories about dungeons, I played only evenings and it took me 3 weeks to lvl-up to 60. And that is not bad, I don’t wish the game to be more quick. There were many wonderful stories in quests, but the gameplay… the gameplay sucked, and there are some moments I want to dwell upon:

  1. Quests with elite mobs. At first I was happy that game stimulates to interact with people, to find friends to help, but it turned out that usually by design you have to interact with NPCs. Why must I interact with these stupid centaurs, goblins and so on, when there are alive players in the game? For example, if I’m mage, I could find a warrior to help me with this thing in Desolace with centaurs and demons, but I can’t! I must interact with this battallion of centaurs. Dear Blizzard, can you add more incentive to interact with people? If you are afraid of losing introverts, then you can make an option: e.g. you can do this quest with NPC, or can do this with friend and gain some extra XP or extra loot. Is WoW MMORPG or single-player game?

  2. Low-level Dungeons. Maybe if you’re tank or healer, the gameplay is more interesting, but I am warlock, and despite the fact that demonology warlock mechanics are pretty interesting, all that I do in dungeons is pushing 5 buttons in specific sequence and that’s all. Usually, all the bosses are very fat pieces of meat who can only beat the tank with theirs hands. And I’m not telling about adding more damage or more HP to mobs, I’m telling about interesting mechanics. Why don’t you, dear Blizzard, add some more interesting mechanics to low-level bosses? There were some examples like running bombs in Gnomeregan or splash of Gahz’rilla in Zul’farrak, but that’s almost all, and it almost didn’t work! Why don’t you add some things, for example, that only ranged damagers can do, like need to shoot some far things, to block healing mobs, to shoot some non-elite mobs that ignore tank or so? I’m not a gameplay designer, but you’re Blizzard, aren’t you?

  3. Professions. I used to lvl-up Tailoring, and that made fun for me, it was something that maked me feel the real character of the world… and that was not bad. But when I came to Northrend, the game has said to me: “All of your profession is now piece of ****, there is Northrend tailoring, and you must to lvl-up it from zero!” And how should I react?. I wish the WoW game to be holistic, to be in one piece, not to be a Frakenstein, made of several pieces of different addons. I wish everything to be important in the game. I think, many people love classic Wow exactly on the same reason: the classic WoW game was in one piece, and everything there was important, there were no useless things.

And, finally, I don’t understand the position “Be patient, lvl-up to 120 and then there will be fun”. When I buy a game, I want to have fun since the moment of buying, and don’t you?

(And sorry for my English, I’m not native English speaker)

My suggestion is to wait for classic WoW. That lives up to the W3 fantasy.
Current WoW is a shadow of it’s former lore.

Bro. Pushing 5 buttons is what WoW is now.
You’d better be happy to play lok. Some classes need to push only 3 buttons.

Now you push five buttons at low lvl content. The same five buttons you will push after reaching 120. Its just how Blizzard see their game. You can’t do anything about it

You never played Arcane mage in it’s glory days (Wotlk). Arcane blast, no need to cast anything else. Still top dps.

Bro. Was vanilla better bro? Did they have complex classes and good balance bro bro?

Yea, didn’t think so.

They sucked all the interesting stuff out at the launch of Cata cus they were fearful the delay in levelling speed may lose them players. At each expansion they would remove more and more stuff and dilute the game. Pretty tragic if you actually want to enjoy the full game. Oddly this last time around they brought in scaling which didn’t add any new content, just made the existing content more dreary. And worse they merged all the crafting and zones so it makes little if any sense now.

You will have to wait for Classic to get back to the core routes of the game. Don’t be surprised at some point in the future for levels 1 to 60 to be removed from the game completely with new chars starting at 60. With the choice of playing Classic as a timewalking thang. I can’t see them keeping levelling from 1 to 130 in the next expansion. Especially for existing players. So you will have to get use to them removing stuff rather than adding. They haven’t really added anything of note to the original game since Lich. Thats why private servers for Classic were so popular.

Define popular. Since the biggest server was at 5-8% in its prime. And that is with tons of second accounts and so on since it’s free , which is also a big part of people playing such server.

And added nothing note worthy ? You mean real abilit rotations instead of spamming one button? Which for some reason this one Mages here calls glory days ?
You mean raids didn’t became fun to play with real mechanics?
You really think that the old leveling zones were good and fun to do ?

Let’s be honest everything before cata was a mistake. People who are fans of classic are most of the time casuals who just want to get their fake prestige , and woltk fans love the casual free loot and easy raid style.

Good post. I agree with all points

yes there were inherently more skills and spells and you used whichever was necessary

No there weren’t. A lot of specs literally pressed one button.

Talk about rewriting history with some rose tinted goggles on.

Thats sounds horrible to me. Maybe I’m crazy, but in my ideal world the character MUST have a story and childhood. It’s nice when you can, figuratively speaking, to sit by the fire and tell “When I was 35, I used to serve Kromgar in Stonetalon Mountains. I even became a general!. That were good times, huh?” or something like that

and don’t forget that for those classes whose rotation consisted of more than one button then you pressed those buttons in a preset series over and over again unless it was on one gimmicky boss in that particular instance.

And I’m not speaking about returning to Classic WoW and removing all the new ideas that were realized. Am I too optimistic, thinking that Blizzard can do something that would be the best of two worlds? Where there will be all of the modern content, but you could have fun playing old content too?

I think you are. They were talking about having pristine servers at the time when they were still refusing idea of classic servers but it seems that is buried after annoucement of classic. So things you describe will come back in classic and i guess normal wow keeps on moving no different path.

Vanilla warlock was all about that masterful and skillful Shadow Bolt spam. Long before everyone else.

TBC had BM hunters and the infamous macro that would take care of the entire rotation.

True. I just thought I’d mention Arcane mages because of the faceroll video on youtube. Keybind every key to Arcane blast and roll your face across the key board --> top dps

I never did and I never will understand this “rushing to the top”
I did not buy BfA and my level 110 has fun in the old expansions

Vanila resto druid was indeed very complex and fun to play , especially spamming different ranks of the healing touch spell, while the vanilla rogues were best example of the balance which vanilla had which could stunlock the players to death, oh those were such a glorious days  .

Why you do need pristine servers when you cant achieve anything hard even in the current game ( you did 0 of the challenging content in this xpac ) ?

I really don’t want forced interaction with others when questing and yeah I know it’s an MMO and all that but still MMO does not mean forced interaction with other people.
