“[a random addon] has been blocked from an action only available to the Blizzard UI”. Every time it’s different addon, sometimes multiple addons in a row and most of the times this doesn’t happen.
For example “Better Wardrobe” triggers this warning sometimes when interacting with Garrison Shipyard and sometimes some other totally unrelated addon prevents from equipping boots.
Anyone has any idea what is happening here and why? I won’t go to support forum as addons are not officially supported.
Better wardrobe has not received a new version for 2 months. That may be why.
Now, i’m not claiming to be a technical expert but I think if the game receives regular updates and some addons do not keep up with that, there will be compatiblity issues causing problems.
Issue’s typically out of date addons.
Try sending a query to the author of them addons, there’s the comments section usually open for addons off Curse.
One or more add-ons are causing that issue. The complicated bit is figuring out which one(s) as the message you get that says “some addon” has been blocked does not mean it’s that addon with the issue. The messages are some what misleading and unhelpful.
I’d start by ensuring all your add-ons are up to date and if they are and it still continues disable all, and try reactivating them one by one.
Edit:
Might be worth installing these two addons also:
With these installed you will be able to see if any of your addons are producing LUA errors which can trigger the action blocked messages. If you see one producing lots of errors then that’s likely the problamatic one causing all the blocked messages.
Thank you very much - I installed those two, perhaps I’ll find the culprit.
I’ve had those interact errors as long as I can remember, it’s annoying having to reload every time and magically the issue is magically gone.
Best of luck with your bug hunt
I have no idea why this happens. In fact I’ve experienced that, if I literally have no addons installed at all, it just fails silently.
It’s a bug inside Blizzard’s own UI. I don’t know why. It typically happens when pressing an action button.
Another one that haunts my nightmares is SetTargetClampingInsets()
Things are so bad I have a /reload macro on my action bar and use it a lot.
Better wardrobe gave me trouble in shadowlands and since dragonflight put in restrictions things have only gone worse sadly. I don’t think the addon developer is trying to address this
After installing the bug catcher addons, Better Wardrobe was the first to go. Sad but true. At this point I consider that addon being completely bugged and unusable.
I can’t give up on its usefulness sadly. It’s way too good and the issues are rare enough. If i have to reload my ui once a day I’ll live
Delete all your addons and that should fix it.
Actually doesn’t for me, that’s the best part!
My UI will just suddenly have action buttons not working because something or other for whatever reason starts calling SetTargetClampingInsets() or something to that effect. Something somewhere is somehow hijacking a core function and making it call this method.
And it isn’t just clicking an action button that can cause it. It can be caused by many things.
I’ve gotten myself an addon called !!NoTaint in an attempt to find out which addons is corrupting it, and it’s nearly always WeakAuras or SquishMe! but the frequency does not decrease if I remove SquishMe. Removing WeakAuras is quite frankly not an option.
Remember that Blizzard’s default UI is also just addons with special privileges. The UI errors will find a way to manifest one way or another.
I do not know why this method is being called…
Indeed, Blizzards own add-ons tend to have more bugs than third party ones and it’s often those that cause the most problems or taint to the third party ones.
Since S4 patch ive had to reload a few times while in instances because my action buttons stop working, and I don’t have any third party add-ons.
I’ve also had instances were the dialog to accept group invite or resurrect doesn’t show up, profession windows not opening unless I click direct from spell book and macros that work then stop working. All causing me to have to /reload.
You are not alone on this, this addon problem has been plague on me as well. In the middle of a keystone i get that error this action has been blocked haha.
But what is a bit crazy is that even when the addons are updated it still comes up, so it makes me wonder that it has to do something with the blizzard sphagetti code itself.
Bummer that there isn’t a proper solution for this besides disabling all addons but still this is pretty annoying.
