"<AddOn> has been blocked from an action only available to the Blizzard UI"

Make up your mind about wether or not you support AddOns. Ever since prepatch this has popped up all the time, especially when trying to use Items and COMBAT ABILITIES.

How do you expect me to raid in Dragonflight, or play Dragonflight period if at any point I’ll have to wholely reload my UI just to be able to DO anything?

This is not AddOns being out of date either, I check my AddOn Updates daily, they are all up-to-date AddOns being blocked.

WoW has always been a game that supported AddOns. If this goes on, I’ll have to disable essentiall AddOns, at which point I might as well just quit the game altogether.

I sometimes get this error with Better Wardrobe and Transmog, even when I want to use something as simple as a hearthstone.

A reload fixes it, but it’s annoying. Thankfully, active spells aren’t affected :smiling_face_with_tear:

Unfortunately for me, active spells are affected. Sometimes I go and fight something, usually as a Melee class already having pulled aggro and I just… can’t do anything because I HAVE to reload my UI.

Boom, Corpsewalk.

Fun.

Got that error with many different addons - BtW, Auctionator, HandyNotes… There’s probably something in the native UI trying to supercede addons that, well, naturally supercede native UI

I think this has more to do with waiting for the addon creators to fix the conflicts.

But it is damn annoying to get that error.
Why would mending pet cause a conflict with some map addon

What has been blocked? It’s not just that it doesn’t work?

Lots of mine still don’t work and I cleared out nearly all my WAs because of the LUA errors they were throwing up.

The game does support addons, but its is designed to be played without any. I dont believe people who make the mechanics and test them before getting to closed beta have any addons messing up their game.

That said, i do use some addons and i have had no problems with any of them, but that may not be the case for all. Until everything works and people doing the addons get them actually working as intended to just try and play without those causing problems. Game is perfectly playable without any. I played my first 10 years doing all sorts of stuff including instances and pvp without any and it is pretty easy to do. These days the game is even more easier than back then. Im sure all addons will eventually work.

I have a grand total of two WeakAuras.

After installing the second one, I get an error like the OP got. It still works, even after clicking “ignore”.

I was getting it when I opened the edit mode to move my castbar. The WA was something showing ticks on the cast bar for disintegrate.

If I dont try to move the castbar, it’s fine

I get this message every so often with Bartender. At least I’ve managed to get rid of the big warning box which froze the whole screen so it’s just irritating rather than ending in my death every time.

This is from memory, so a wholely imperfect, incomplete list:

  • Auctionator
  • Total Roleplay 3
  • Hekili
  • tdbattlepets(?)
  • Immersion

Is all I could think of. And in most if not all cases it was when I either tried to use an Item from my bags - glyphs, consumables, quest items - or tried to fight something, making me wholely unable to do anything but move and do auto attacks until my UI has been reloaded, regardless of wether or not I disable said AddOns.

I always was a Vanilla UI Andy, so AddOns like Bartender etc. are not in my downloads.

Hekili works for me so it may also be a conflict within conflict situation with another addon.

Unfortunately the changes at the Blizz end have meant a lot of work for addon creators and they’ve not always been able to pinpoint the problem. On a daily basis a huge chunk of my addons have updates as they narrow down and fix issues.

I’ve not been able to use Fishing Buddy since prepatch. It makes my UI do funny things. Things like oilvl have worked intermittently.

I’ve had to exercise a lot of trial and error turning things on and off to figure out what works and what doesn’t and to constantly keep updating them every morning before I log in xD.

I don’t think it’s easy for the addon creators either as they are relying on getting reports back from their users and need to be able to pinpoint where the issues lie.

Most addons that modify the bag ui seem to have problems. For example I can’t open my bags in elv if I have pawn installed.

TLDR.
Blame bliz for addon creators not updating their addons in a timely manner.

I think they also struggle to get them to work and one fix may not solve everything either.

Indeed…

I will say, addon creators do this in their own free time. And if players can’t handle the errors, or the wait time. They should just uninstall them, throwing a hissy fit is a poor thanks to the people doing this.

Personally the addons i use work flawlessly 99% of the time …
But that is limited to Simulationcraft, raiderIO, ElvUI, Details, BigWigs and WA’s.

Addons are made for free, and are a lot of work, we cannot criticise people for giving up fruitful endeavours (such as their work and family life) for a thankless task such as updating code for a video game.

Be happy free addons exist at all.

You are completely missing the point. Blizzard is kicking those people that create addons in the face with that behaviour.
If a developer (here Blizzard) allows the community to create addons it would be normal to keep them informed about changes of the API and not changing things in every small content patch.
A lot of mod developers didn’t know that Blizzard again changed stuff - because they tried all of that on the DF beta.

And now it’s all on the developers of the community to use their free time to fix something Blizzard has broken while we, as users of those addons, getting UI errors for weeks.
That’s not how software development or “a modding community” really work.

Its all down to Blizz. API = Application Programming Interface which is a strict way for external programs/code to access a program/database to interact and retrieve data. If the instructions and variables are changed adhoc what chance do external developer have. You can tell by a lot of the errors e.g. variable not found, no permission to access xxx etc.

Its the usual catch up from add on creators after a major patch, once Blizz gets done hotfixing major issues and the add on writers have the time (on their end, a lot of people I feel forget most add on writers don’t spend their entire time updating their add ons) to update their add ons fully it will be back to normal. Expect most add ons to be a bit ropey and constantly updating a few weeks into DF going live.

From what I’ve read on their patreon the writer has just finished vastly more important stuff irl and will update it soon as he or she can.

Everyone just needs to be a bit patient, yes it can be mildly annoying, I was annoyed at a few times but it will be updated eventually.
